    Honda's CRF230F is a great bike, but we made it even better. See how we took our bulletproof 230 to the next level and built it up to compete with the other bikes in its class. Josh, one of our video team members, set out on building a 2015 Honda CRF230F into a do-it-all bike for his wife to ride on all different types of terrain. She’s a relatively new rider, and with her constantly increasing skills, it was important to find a bike that she wouldn’t outgrow in a few months. So, take a closer look as we go over all the parts and accessories we added to upgrade this Honda CRF230F!

      I actually ran this bike on FMH and cleaned most everything accept for rider error. I (at the time mid 40s, 200lbs, A class rider) was going to use my then Husaberg FE501 but it was having engine trouble and went with the 230 I had brought along "just in case"... REALLY great choice. I have used this bike in unbelievably brutal trails rides and had a GREAT TIME. It's like a trials bike but with 100+ mile range. WAY under rated bike.

      (KLX300R) between
      282 and 300lbs, wet, that I have found. Looks like the 2003
      was 253 +- wet, but then it only had kick start which
      defeats the entire basis of looking at KLX. Elect Start

    • @wll1500
      @wll1500 3 года назад

      @@705_media5 the carb is tuned to California emmisions standards which severely leans out the tuning making it starve for power and hard to cold start. Additionally an intake restrictor is used and an exhaust baffle is in place from stock.
      Rejetting, adding a new needle with more positions, and removing those restrictors is the "uncorking" process for the 230 and 150f and offers a very healthy power increase.

    I free rode and raced Mx, even a little bit of fmx for years. I then hung it up for a few years because frankly I fell out of love with it after so many injuries and surgeries. Risk vs reward just wasn’t tipping the scale towards staying in it. So I got into Harley’s just to cruise and soon after started stunting Harley’s lol. Anyways I wanted to get back into dirt biking, mainly trail riding. I bought a 2022 kx450f and obviously, that’s not the ideal trail bike for tech single track. Feels like handling a loaded gun while riding a bucking bull. Trying to tame that thing on tech trails was a handful. So I bought a crf230 and it may be one of the most fun motorcycles I have ever owned and I’m faster in the trails on the 230 than I’ve been on anything else.

    I’ve had a 230 since 2006, bought it new. Back then there was Reger Engineering where you could install the CR USD forks on a modified triple (their top clamp and CR lower, 230 stem, their stop and caliper hanger) and for the rear, a works connection shock with external reservoir. Yes, I have all that on mine, and the T4 exhaust opened up air box and re-jetted. Bike has survived 6 kids plus fat dad (and all their friends as it became the “loaner”) probably has over 400 hrs, one valve adjust, 1 battery, 1 carb clean, and probably 6 sets of tires it’s whole life. I think now it needs a cosmetic plastic face lift since some of them are held on with zip ties LOL. Does the plastics on the 15 share the same mounting, if not, what would it take to upgrade, or does anyone make an aftermarket kit?

    The claim of a 6.5 pound weight reduction with a lithium battery does not sound correct to me. If I recall correctly I saved 2 pounds with a Shorai lithium battery. I don't think the stock battery even weighs 6.5 pounds. That skid plate will reduce airflow under the engine, and the foam will reduce it even more. The lower engine cases are not very hot compared to other parts of the engine, but Honda does have a large hole in the front of their skid plate to increase airflow through that area.

      I had this bike 12 years ago. I un corked the air box, uni air filter, full bbr exhaust, re-jet (main jet only) bbr rev box, lighter chain, went up 2 teeth in the rear with a lightweight sprocket and ran octain booster. After i did those mods that bike ripped, it was a fast bike. I used to woods race it. Some how the bike topped out at 71mph, think it was the rev box that helped with that. I beat the piss out of that bike and it never gave me a problem. But yeah, re jet it trust me. I don't remember the size i went with, do some research. A main jet is cheap and easy to change. Hope this helps!

    Thanks finally found a nice build for the 230 i'm 5'4 and weigh 125lb have 2016 crf230 just ordering some of those add ons.How tall is your girlfriend riding the bike and also is there a lowering kit for this bike .I'm right on my tip toes .
    Thanks!

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 лет назад +1

      We did not put a lowering link on our bike. My wife is about 5'2 and just like you she's right on her tip toes while sitting on the bike. The height gave her a little bit of grief when she was first starting out, but now that she's getting better and more confident she is fine with the height. Tip toes is typically where you want the bike height and is a good height to develop into, but it's all about your personal preference and comfort. Unfortunately we don't carry any lowering links for this bike here at Rocky Mountain, but a quick google search shows that there are some out there! -Josh

    If only these bikes were 60 pounds lighter. They have a great size chassis for woods riding, but no amount of bolt ons can disguise the fact that they weigh too much and have a sack of cement where the engine should be. As much as we want this size of trail bike, you would be better served finding any 250F if you really want a performance bike. 250Fs are at least 40 lbs. lighter, have way better suspension and are a much better platform if you want to accessorize it.
