I didn't buy any GME shares yesterday. I'm wishing I'd done so, but I'm not going to berate myself, meme stocks are too volatile.
It really doesn’t have anything to do with short interest. It’s all about the option chain, open interest, and the mechanics of the market maker hedging those derivatives. It’s 100% gamma squeeze. The option chain tells the story here. Anyone paying attention to the parabolic otm open interest last week positioned themselves for this move and the market maker was forced to purchase all those shares.
A bit late it's not because of RK that gme is up FYI it's due to shorts not rolling their puts and continuing their short position. As a result a few shorts got exposed and needed to panic roll and someone entities created a gamma ramp
