    You shave 'proper' growths, from a few days to even a week or more. You talk us through what you're thinking as you shave, explaining your technique, and how it's evolving. You don't present yourself as some kind of shaving messiah. Great angles, we can really see what you're doing. The editing, music, and variety of shots all comes together to really hold the interest, and makes the time fly in.
    It's almost like you've taken everything that's annoying in shaving RUclips in general, and flipped it.
    Love your videos. Could watch these all day. Really nice work.

    @brandonoglesby8498 3 месяца назад +1

    I experienced same results my first few attempts w R41 w nicks, irritation, and blade feel. I wasn’t used to different shave angle approach, it’s different than an HD34c w narrow sweet spot compared to my other de razors. It also doesn’t torque or bend the blade as much, so the blade is more prone to bend or “chatter”. My R41 seems to have a little blade chatter if I have several days growth similar to yours. I read about this on chat forums and placing a shim between topcap and blade stiffened up the blade to eliminate the chatter but also tamed the blade feel and aggressiveness by a bit. Try it, it works well. Other than that I agree the r41 is a great shaver!
    But I don’t usually do much buffing strokes on wtg pass. I like fluid passes better but on several days growth up to 10 days it’s sometimes necessary

    • @OhioShaves
      @OhioShaves  3 месяца назад +1

      I feel it's technique more than anything else. I'm not a big fan of changing the blade gap by shimming out safety razors. I like to use a razor the way the manufacture intended

    • @brandonoglesby8498
      @brandonoglesby8498 3 месяца назад +2

      @@OhioShaves yes I agree, like with all de razors, finding that sweet spot where shave angle is just right. I guess I need to shave with r41 more. Haven’t had it long n I don’t care to shim either as it seems to be a PITA! But I do love the close efficient shave I get w it. But yea I had problems w blade chatter my first few shaves, nicks, and irritation. Tbh where I put shim doesn’t change blade gap at all. It would change blade gap if I placed shim between the blade and baseplate. But I load shim to top cap first, then the blade. This way the shim stiffens blade to eliminate chatter. Gap is unaffected but I guess it does change blade feel some to more of a neutral or negative blade exposure.
      Thanks for your videos, I enjoy them, they’re helpful.

    Personna blades are all slightly different depending on which 1 you get. There are 3 Personna blues. That I've seen on Amazon. Standard stainless, comfort coated and med preps. Coated one work best for me or feather blades. The Personna preps seem slightly milder than other Personna, probably because sterilizing processes effect them. Know that from experience have to sterilize scrapers at work. Definitely reduces sharpness a little. I have razorwire beard hair, so need sharpest I can get. Plus sharpest blades get more shaves out of a blade before having to change.

    Sir, your second pass lather was just like I'm accustomed to - creamy and holding together.
    Welcome to XTG passes, your shaving down the neck was how I'm used to shaving, maybe reduce it to two opposite across passes? You can also adopt it at the mustache area, however in general this R41 left you baby smooth.

    If I don't have bumps or prior cuts I do good with that and the DS Cosmetics Z0. It's the same just all stainless. I think about $48 bucks. Yes China knock off. Badger and Blade likes it though. Might be a little bit smoother. It'll shave Sage grass. Always BBS. On both. 2 pass.

    I use the R41 with Kai blades and they are a match made in heaven.
    The Kai blades sit more recessed than other blades, so the aggressiveness of the open comb R41 is not as acute. But because the Kai blades are as sharp as a Feather, it's a perfect shave. I've used Wilkinson Sword blades on the R41 in the past and found that although they aren't as sharp as the Kai, they do poke out more and are uncomfortable to shave with. Interestingly, Derby blades work well with this razor. So, I can recommend the R41 for beginners using Derby blades.
    Some tips: 1.) Align the Kai blades - they aren't a perfect fit on the R41's seating pins 2.) Go slow - I've cut myself many times because I was impatient and wasn't concentrating 3.) Go with the grain using this razor, or you'll butcher yourself

    I decided to try out a R41 just to see what the fearmongering is all about. I used a mild treet carbon for my first try. Result after three passes was smooth, no cuts, no nicks, no irritation. Lots of blade feel which isn't a problem for me but otherwise I was pleasently surprised.

      @@OhioShaves I've tried it out a few more times and same results. I use it just like any other razor for regular 3 pass shave and always no nicks, no cuts and no irritation. Next step is to start moving up on my blade sharpness options from the very mild black beauties > treet platinum > treet dura sharps > Bic > Feather. See if it makes much difference to the already good results. When I bought the r41 I bought a spare r89 head too in case the r41 butchered me but didn't happen.
      However I wouldn't hand an r41 to a beginner but anybody with a good bit of experience should have no problems and anybody who has ever used straight razors might enjoy the feel of it.

    Also, had my second shave with my Leaf Twig, but just got some new Gillette Platinum blades delivered.. I’m 25, don’t have the super wire thick hair like you do, but WOW, what a shave! Best shave I think I’ve ever had.

      Closed comb has a bar then maybe some teeth depending on the razor. The open comb razor, all you see is the teeth with no bar. The jagged edge helps fluff up the hairs on your face, supposedly. The leaf is a closed comb with no teeth.

I got my first one about 10 or 11 years ago after many years of straight Razor shaves, Straight is a lot better but in my age 74 my hands shake to much so I went for the doble Eage razor that was about 10 or 11 years ago , I use Dove soap to shave face and head 4 times a week you got my names problem I'm a Ball of Hair all around my body including my A$#s and Facial Hair is like you say Nails coming out my face but the R41 with FEATHER blades theme them down , Love you Program straight to the point no But*##"t that's the way it has to be done , have a good one , 😊😊😊

    Thanks for another great video. New to wet shaving, I've settled on the Leaf Twig with an Astra blade, which I got from Amazon in a sample pack. I was about to place an order for 100 when I noticed that they were made in Russia. I'd rather not do that, so I checked your link on the Personna blades. It doesn't definitively say the blades are made in the USA. I then went to the Personna store on Amazon. They don't say where they are made. I zoomed in on the box image and it says "Made in Germany". How do I make sure I'm getting blades made in the USA?
