This video came on after watching a Bible prophecy video and before that I was looking into putting my older teens in online public school. I said a little prayer afterwards and here I am. God's timing in answering!
1000% yes. We've graduated 4 so far, 9 to go...and you've hit every single point on the head. You nailed it! What a wonderful talk, and THANK YOU for your years of godly, common sense advice.
“You don’t have to be really strict about the hours, because… Nobody really cares.” 😂 Yes!! Thank you so much for being the voice of reason. Your videos are a breath of fresh air, giving me peace to stay the course. ❤
We are starting our first "official" day of school for this year. I am giving my remaining children even more responsibility in the areas of what they learn and what they source to obtain that knowledge. I want it to be a much less stressful year than trying to keep up with a schedule that never seems to stay orderly no matter how many ideas I had to arrange it. I watched this video one more time this morning as encouragement for myself. It's already a busy morning canning applesauce. My adult kids are off to work, had to take one last night for some night driving time and then come home and try to put the toddler to bed. It's been a full life!
I can relate! Having all the ages and stages at once can be challenging, but then there is also so much life and sharing going on that it is worth it :)
Public school held me back from my intrerest of music studies. My freshmen year I could have taken a music theory class, but it was cancled due lack of enrollment! The year I graduated at another school I took an AP music theory class, with about 4 others, and I thrived. DO NOT send your child to public school if you can homeschool.
@@MomDelights I have learned a great deal from you about homeschooling, so I took it upon myself to educate myself from good books, and I ENJOY IT!! My channel is basically a video diary.
Yes, yes, yes! I just graduated my first child. You can do it! I was not confident in teaching high school math & writing. I asked other moms and found some DVD lectures/ curriculums on these subjects. So many ways to do high school at home. Thank you for the reminder of letting go & letting God & staying calm. And thank you for being real, when you say there are struggles and hard times. Amen to that & even dealing with those times, I would not take anything for the homeschool experience and my kids feel the same.
Your voice is very calming -- probably a testament to what you have already learned. My oldest is going into his last year of elementary so highschool is now looming large ahead of me. I never wanted to make that decision of homeschooling through or sending him back to public (he was at public k to 3 until the lockdowns) but it's here now. It's complicated by the fact he is also special needs and I will need to write out an Individual Education Plan for his transcript. I am grateful that Canada doesn't have PSATS, SATS, LSATS and whatnot so that's at least one less worry. I was a good student too so I don't know why I think I can't figure this out. The upper grade maths were never my strong point but that is what RUclips is for and teaching something to someone else improves your own skills. I should be EXCITED that I get a second chance at finally understanding calculus. What you said about their spiritual lives is so good. I have to remind myself that is what God cares about most. This video was encouraging. I figure it must have been from God because my kids chose this 20 minutes to fight and interrupt constantly when they had been quiet all day.
As we were planning this school year, just yesterday I was feeling discouraged about our high schoolers and maybe we weren’t doing the best. Then this popped up in my inbox a few hours later. God definitely uses you to encourage others!
It used to be that our society pushed the idea of high school being about college prep and having a degree. In these times important to tune in on their gifts and after highschool plan I felt like I was supposed to focus more on practical subjects with my youngest. No higher maths. Personal finance. Some are better off learning a needful trade after highschool
I am curious about the teen who lacks motivation. 13yrs old, minimally responsible yet wants all the privilege of a trustworthy responsible person. I'm trying to put more on said persons lap but she won't do a bunch of things without me holding her hand. & then is upset with me because she is denied opportunities because academics are late or home chore is not done well-as in having to b reminded, not doing it fully or not following instructions on how it needs to be done. Thank you for always being an inspiration.
There are always those exceptions to the rule! These are the children that keep us on our knees and mature us in our dependency on God. There's an old saying, "Many children mean many problems, many problems mean many prayers, and many prayers mean many blessings."
Sherry, can you talk about how motherhood is a ministry? I was reading through 1 Peter 5 and he's talking about leadership, being willing and eager to serve, not forced to or seeking personal gain. Contextually, its for the elders of the church, but I think it could apply to leadership in general. Do you have an opinion on this? I t'd be interesting to hear your opinion in a video.
That's a good observation. We as mothers need to be good leaders, the Jesus kind, who don't serve for their own ego's sake, don't we? I'll certainly consider it.
Timely video! I have one finishing HS and I have done what you said and looking back and writing it all down I realized he had a very well rounded education. The harder maths I didnt completely understand in public scool (failed algebra) and didnt learn it until I was in college when I sat with a tutor. So anything fuzzy can be learned eventually. Thank you Sherry! "Keep praying & believing" is right. You are a breath of fresh air. 🩷
Your giggle after saying you are not looney cracked me up. You have been such an encouragement, thank you. Hoping you are well.
Bless you! So glad I can make you laugh :P

Amen! I wouldn't have let those years slip, either, even with the difficulties.

High school is an exciting time to teach your kids--you're going to have a great time together :)
I love the confidence and reassurances you give. What a blessing to hear these words. Thank you Sherry.
You are so welcome :)

That's for sure!
19:21 side note: loved that about the fruits ❤😊
🥰 thank you! This was an answered prayer ❤️
Praise God! So glad it was a help.
Thank you for this encouragement. We just started our school year today. We’ve graduated 2. We have a senior this year and 3 more after him.
It's going to be some of your most memorable times together!
Highly suggest having high school be a time of shadowing and volunteering. Can count as credits as well
Great point!
Thank you! You put my heart at ease like you always seem to do.
Praise God--He is so good :)
Thank you! I needed this.

My pleasure entirely :)
Thank you so much! I needed this encouragement. I have my first child 1 in highschool.
You're gonna do great!

I saw the Commonplace Book for purchase
Yay!

Bless you! True we can pick up those "fuzzy" areas (if we need to later).
