Why did none of the coach's tell them to tie their hair back, if your hair get tangled around the string and you release you can rip out massive chunks of hair and potentially take some of your scalp with it. This is basic safety stuff.

And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

As someone who's only been doing archery since october, it's really not difficult. Form is easy when you get drilled enough, just remember shoulders, elbow, stance. Hitting within the gold, and especially getting an x isn't impossible but if a beginner beginner hits it its more likely to be luck than skill

You use NTS form? Also what distance you shooting and what target? As someone who's been shooting for about 1.5 years and I shoot from 18 meters at a target with a diameter of 40 cm I'm telling you it's not that easy to hit the 10 or X CONSISTENTLY
I know it's difficult to hit it consistently, that's why I said it's more likely to be luck than skill. Half of the people that taught me hold titles for both regional and national but seeing them practice they still have a tendency to be literally hit or miss. My last one on one session I ended up with 2 x's but the rest of my arrows were only just in the red.
When we shoot it's a Portsmouth with 60cm targets at 20yards although it depends where we compete. But in terms of NTS most of us had already shot before so they looked at us individually and figured out what we needed.

I love these three together. They should turn into a series on Buzzfeed where they tried out athletic activities. I mean they've produced these videos in the past, but it doesn't have like an official name or anything. Kind of like The Try Guys and Test Friends. Having gone through archery training, I was surprised that they didn't make them bind their long hair out of the way.
I was worried that one of them would get her hair caught up with an arrow and have a patch of hair ripped out of her scalp.
I have long hair also and that was a safety measure drilled into me by my instructor.
Archery is SOOO MUCH FUN and if your interested you should totally try! It gets really easy and so much fun

I use a compound bow with a release trigger and I am slowly getting better at it. :)
Arent you supposed to hold the arrow between your index and middle finger and have the ring finger touching the middle finger? So from top down it's:

John Smith it is index arrow middle ring for sighted recurve, but as they are shooting recurve bare bow all three fingers should be below the nooked arrow.
you are describing the Mediterranean style and yes it is the most common one and pretty much all the olympic recurve archers are going to do it that way but it leaves a huge gap between your eyes and the arrow so 3 under is easier to do when shooting barebow

I "train" folk at RingStar's Open Archery and will tell newbies truthfully that they will get a bullseye before they leave that day. When I say "train" it means that while I've been shooting for 20 years, I haven't had any training to teach as yet.

Legolas from Lord of the Rings was my inspiration for archery since I was a small child and I'm really good now as an adult. I hit the bulls eye every time. :)

I started doing archery about 5 months ago and my groupings are getting closer and I feel like I'm getting better but I don't know what I should do next. I want to try amateur contests but I feel like I will get destroyed...
That really depends on what distance you are shooting at right now and the distance requirement for your age group. Seeing as you've only been doing it for 5 months I would get a coach (assuming you don't have one) before considering competitions because they will point out all the little mistakes that will really boost your performance and refer you to the best bow equipment for your height and draw length.
It's not about winning against other people when do a contest. It's about beating your previous score and competing against yourself.
I would just go for it if you are a high school student I would recommend 4-H shooting competitions everyone there is friendly and if you need to most teams provide equipment.

The mental aspect is what’s so difficult to overcome, that’s why I’m looking more into instinctive shooting, so you can learn not to overthink it, but just focus on the smallest part of a target, to hit it. As if trying to shoot a fly that just landed on your balloon.
