Yeah but Americans are so good at judging and telling others how to live their lives but aren't willing to help support those children as they grow up because as soon as they're born they might as well not exist. Have you heard how welcoming we are to immigrants? Or how well funded our child care system is? Perhaps you've heard that it's more dangerous to give birth in Texas than it is in most third world countries. These people don't care about the consequences or long-term effects of their actions. The current adoption population in the U.S. is overwhelming with children. Most do not get adopted and wind up in foster care until they age out of the system. This feels like dejavu at times because this is like a softer version of what christian missionaries did in Africa. Sure they are not violently and forcibly converting native Africans to Christianity, but it doesn't excuse what they're doing. Preaching pregnancy as a gift from God but failing to realize most of these girls are living in abject poverty is ridiculous. A 15 year old who's living in poverty, barely in school, no support system whatsoever is supposed to look at pregnancy positively? Adding to the fact that society always blames the girl and never the man is so ignorant of these people. What these girls need is not people who'll blame them but a support system that will empower them to live better lives.

Would you outlaw verbally convincing people? Funding from anti-abortion clinics in the United States? I should add that few midwives/birth attendants accept to help teenagers in labor. They want no responsibility when labor turns complicated...which for teenage pregnancies, it usually does. Many girls have ended up dying because of this delayed labor. This is the biggest tragedy in Uganda.
I will never forget a girl I happened upon seated by the roadside during my fieldwork days in a village just outside the city, alone. A midwife had refused to examine her and told her to go back home. When I came by the next day, she was dead. The parents had managed to summon an ambulance and had also found a hospital that was comfortable having her but she had died on her way there. She was only 14 and her young body had been exhausted.
We can be pro-life, but a mother's life is just as important as the child's. These girls need more information, more medical care. more support than what's being offered. Stopping an abortion shouldn't be the goal, saving a life should be the goal.

Of course he responded the way he did. She also should have brought the misinformation with her to show him and allow him to confirm or deny that they sent them to Uganda as the staff in Uganda claimed. Missed opportunities in her line of questioning with him. She so should have stated that the health Minister of Uganda also said their tactics were illegal - the not sending them to an actual medical facility.
