Sorry for late response. I usually make my leaders out of 200-500 lb mono which can be a little exaggerating but they last me forever and I know for sure ain't no fish breaking me off. I like using 13/0 circle hooks. Rods MH. I've also caught them on Medium action rods, 30 lb braid, 50 lb mono leaders which makes the fight more intense and exciting you just have to be more careful handling the fish. With the heavy set up I can haul them in with ease
I been kayak fishing over 15 years already. At one point I was putting in 375+ nautical miles a year. I can offer you so advice , we live in the same town . If you want to meet up somewhere we can.
Everyone has their preferences when it comes to kayaks. We don’t all agree on the styles such as peddle or paddle , sit in and sit on top. My personal preference will always be efficientcy over stability. The wider the kayak the more you will have to work and the kayak will not track well leading more strokes at the end of the day. I have a Trident 15 that has fished offshore and in less than a foot of water. I’m not a fan of peddle drives although they have a lot better control while fighting a fish. I won’t risk getting several miles away from the launch to have a drive break on me. So I always choose the paddle kayaks. I recommend you try the old town out before you buy and then try a paddle kayak. I can talk kayak fishing for along time so I’ll just make this one short. Try before you buy , like I said I’m pretty sure we live in the same town so if you want to try my kayak out , I’m cool with that. If not it’s not a big deal.
