I have read this book of Michael's the story of the HMS Erebus as well as all of his his other travel series books and was duly fascinated throughout. One can appreciate the effort that Mr Palin has put in to researching this particular moment in history as well as the heroic self-sacrifice of those who were lost in the endeavour to discover the Northwest Passage.
I'm halfway through Palin's book right now and enjoying every word of it! Having read some of Francis Crozier's letters and Michael Smith's Last Man Standing, I've also developed quite a fondness for the unassuming and underappreciated Irishman.
