This is a great breakdown of essential skills for aspiring VAs. The emphasis on coachability and flexibility is spot-on, showing that a successful VA is more than just tech-savvy - it's about being adaptable and eager to learn.
Hi Erin, I’m based in the UK and just had to comment and thank you for your videos. I’ve been watching and studying and researching for around 2 months and…. I’ve just landed my first client! Your lessons and lectures have given me all the tools I needed to get my own little biz started!
Thank you so much for this Action-Learning Video!!! Im on my week4/8 VA Tech Program and to be honest;this is beneficial with my assignments and milestones; and also general life-long learning.I got me a NEW COACH FOR LIFE!! God Bless YOU A LOT!
Yes I am the living example of this... but what I failed to do is to keep increasing my skills. Thus I appreciate Thus video and all the rest of yours.
Thank you for this orientation video lol. This video deserves so much recognition, your a great speaker. I’m new to VA but have some much experience, thank you for the breakdown & expressing your expertise.
@@ErinBooth Well I thought the tips about keeping things together and staying organized were solid (at least for Voice Acting), but yeah I was anticipating for things like: getting auditions, recording demos and it legitimately took 8 minutes for me to figure out what I was watching.
This sounds just like me. I have all the skills you mention. I'm not an IT professional yet but certified in cybersecurity and I am very text savvy. The issue is landing a job. I never invested much in VA as a job so I'll change that. Thanks for this video I learnt from it and it's very educational and informative.
I've been a VA before and am interested in possibly doing it again. However, I'd like it to be an asyncronous VA business. I don't want to be on call or take calls from customers...basically don't want to be tied to a phone or desk or certain hours. I'd like to have projects and tasks to work on my own schedule. (i.e., 8pm - 1am at night if I wanted to) or 5am-8am...etc. Does anyone do anything like that? If so...what does it look like for you?
You can totally be an Asynch VA. For 99.99% of my job, I'm asynchronous and work around my own schedule. My clients are happy as long as I get work done - the only thing you need to be clear on for clients is that you tell them (under no uncertain terms) that you're on an asynch schedule.
I have been working in Sales Operations for 6 years at a Multinational company and I would greatly appreciate some guidance about working part time as a virtual assistant during the weekends... Thank you
I have been looking for my first client for a year now with no luck. All the jobs available require prior experience. The competition is cutthroat. Where can I get a client that accepts a complete newbie but of course with all the basic skills you have mentioned? I am willing to work as an intern receiving no compensation in exchange for invaluable experience.
Sorry to hear that, so frustrating. Try this playlist - www.youtube.com/@ErinBooth/search?query=find%20clients Your best bet is to get aggressive with your online search on social media and pitch people directly
@@ErinBooth I have been watching your videos and I couldn't be happier to come across one of your videos about AI Maya. I used chatGPT to curate travel itinerary but it's just awesome to know that there is an AI that specializes itinerary creation. Do you have also recommendation of any tools that help me with transportation logistics? The one that covers multiple transfers and multiple mode of transportation including the walking directions? If you have a video that covered that topic, I would appreciate if you can give me the link, please. Thank you. I will be watching the video you recommended.
I'm thinking about different online positions I could do part time. I think being a VA would be a good fit, but I definitely do NOT want to be a freelancer. I need to find a company that pays hourly and I can work around my part time day job, like 2 hours in the morning and maybe an hour later in the evening. I have a ton of computer/online marketing experience so I think it would be a good fit. Currently keeping my options open though, how would I go about finding a VA job through a company? I tried earlier in the year for data entry but all I got back was a bunch of recruitment scams :/ Sorta afraid to try again because of that but your thoughts would be much appreciated!
Totally get where you're coming from. AS far as I know, there aren't any *companies* that only employ VAs as W2 employees. The vast majority of services like Zirtual, Time ETC etc. hire you as a contractor and semi--dictate the hours that you work. While you do get perks - they'll connect with you clients - you do have to conform to their hours. It's a legal grey area.
Hello Erin, I have the skills needed as VA, but the problem is what should I write in the resume and what kind of prototype can I put if I havent got any previous experience as VA? because most clients require it to be considered. thanks..
I find that most individual clients do NOT ask for resumes, but job postings online certainly do. Watch this video (ruclips.net/video/l98QtE2oSoA/видео.html&t) and this video (ruclips.net/video/GGGawYQDRsw/видео.html)
I am a previous public school teacher. What should the cost for training for VA be to transition to this? Someone wants to book a call with me for training but I fear she's going to charge me 1k-5k 😣
Depends on the person since it's unregulated! Some people DO charge thousands. I personally try to put a lot of content here on my YT for free, but I also have a structured program for $297 (www.erinbooth.com/) or smaller "bite sized" courses that focus on specific skills here (www.udemy.com/user/erin-booth/). My usual recommendation however is to start by ingesting everything you can for FREE to determine if this feels like a fun, interesting, and viable path for you. Start free then invest as needed! Good luck!
My personal suggestion is to keep it simple and use one service to handle all client communication (pick email or whatsapp). But ultimately choice is yours, whatever is easiest for you.
Hi Erin, I am a new executive assistant and I have a pressing question to which I would appreciate your reply. How do I inform my executive of his daily tasks scheduled in the calendar? Do I call him to remind him of each task, or would he be the one checking the calendar himself? thank you
Good question and it really depends on your client, so I'd ask what he prefers. You can give him options (I do ALL of the following with my own clients based on their needs): 1) have a standing weekly check in with him on Monday and verbally go over the calendar. 2) You can send him an email either at the end of each work day or super early AM before the start of a new work day with a recap of all the meetings happening. 3) He may prefer to check the calendar himself and tell you when something needs to be rescheduled.

Search "clients" from my homepage

You can do it! Every VA starts from scratch. If you get stuck on something Google solutions, watch RUclips videos.

Hey Erin.
If you are just starting out as a va, can you just work with one client? And what amount can you charge when you just starting out?
I think it’s best to start with one client and not take on additional work until you feel like you have a handle on the workload for the 1st person!

My personal suggestion is to keep it simple and use one service to handle all client communication (pick email or whatsapp). But ultimately choice is yours, whatever is easiest for you.
I need your take about Upwork. Do you think it's the best for a new VA? If not what other platform would you recommend?
I think LinkedIn is the best but like any platform - it will take time to establish yourself as a VA. Be consistent in whatever you choose
The thing is miss I have all these skills. How can I find a job? People show less trust while hiring.
