The Surtr name change is character development in action. The girl took on Surtr's name when she picked up the sword with part of the god Surtr's essence, since she couldn't remember her own name. Last we saw her in AK she was finally overcoming the influence Surtr had over her, taking control of herself and refusing to be his pawn. Laevatain may well be her original name that she's reclaimed. That's my theory. Deeper cut: These names come from norse mythology. Surtr was the strongest fire giant and Laevatain was the name of his sword. In AK there's irony that Surtr is the sword and Laevatain is now the wielder - turning things upside down. Surtr (the god) had been using Laevatain (the girl) as his weapon, and now Laevatain is the one using Surtr as her weapon.
@@RegashuDB Arknights do be loving to take RL history and myths and repurpose them for their world. Even their own name comes from Christianity. Rhodes Island is based off of the Isle of Rhodes, medieval headquarters of the Knights Hospitalliers - a military order that ran hospitals for the poor around the era of the crusades. The "knights" in Arknights is based off this, and the "ark" part comes from Noah's Ark, a ship filled with all kinds of animals getting along and saving the world from catastrophe.
