    bro!! you guys weren't kidding about your crazy drive from Canada to California! you guys are freaking hard core! also, thanks for letting me drive the E55 ASL! what an awesome machine! I hope that I can tell everyone here how crazy this car is when you see it in person, and even how it drives! I am speechless. the car is like a big Go-Kart with serious TORQUE!. driving it around the pits at Buttonwillow Raceway during the Global Time Attack Finals was pretty rad. it definitely broke a lot of necks, even Jackie Ding looked at it like WTF is that thing! lol. anyway, can't wait to see you guys again. hopefully will have the time to go down to Laguna Seca. I'll see if Adam Swan can go there and help you get an idea around Laguna Seca, since he knows that track pretty well. you guys take care!

      Yes, the more features the more things can break. 50 years ago there were much less aircon breakdowns. And no EGR valves that failed. Service intervals were a lot shorter too though. I remember that when I was a kid (yes 50 years ago), there were more cars that needed roadside assistance while there were much fewer cars. Or maybe it’s just my memory.

    The R-class tongue weight is only 600 some odd pounds. You started blowing fuses cause the compressor was exceeding duty cycle and pulling more wattage trying to force air into the bags cause the rear hadn't hit the right ride height despite hitting the normal pressure to do so. You exceeded the tongue weight. Cold air is hard to push, so you were blowing more fuses up north than you did down south. once you got into warmer weather the pump could push the air just enough to get the vehicle to proper ride level. The wheel speed sensor is probably caused by snow. The sensor works but is giving an odd reading (likely that the wheel is moving faster than it is), and this results in the ABS trying to apply the brakes to it to slow it down since the computer thinks the wheel is slipping when its not. The result is a hard dive in the front end and likely a pull towards the side with the bad sensor. It's likely caked in salt. Salt is an electrolyte and thus salt with a little water will provide an electric signal to the sensor. a bit of wire brushing will likely bring it back to life.

    • @BATworkshop
      @BATworkshop 4 года назад +2

      He has a leak in the system, causing excessive runtime in the pump and it will time out and go into overheat protect. After 20 min and a key cycle it will run the pump again.

    • @mizinoinovermyhead.7523
      @mizinoinovermyhead.7523 4 года назад +6

      somedude leak doesn’t explain why it works for a day and a half just after he moves to warmer climates. He’s got too much weight on the tongue causing stress on the pump. The system is sealed just fine.

      If that car has anywhere near 600lb on the tongue you could knock me down with a feather.
      It's most likely a combination of a leak and frozen conditions stopping the pump drawing air in to pump up the bags.

  • @limitlessbuilds
    @limitlessbuilds 4 года назад +49

    When you load the car up next time, only pull it ahead until the front of the trailer can’t be lifted. Probably about a foot back from where you had it. That will take a lot of weight off the bags

    • @AKAtheA
      @AKAtheA 4 года назад +11

      Fairly dangerous to do, the trailer will lift the tow car when it goes through a bump, you absolutely have to keep some reasonable weight on the hitch or there are going to be "need new pants" situation down the road.
      Next time, he should ditch the Benz and get a vehicle more suited to towing. A reasonable truck shouldn't be too hard to come by even in Canaderp ;-)

    • @cobalt789
      @cobalt789 4 года назад +9

      No no no. Towing 101, keep your weight as far forward as possible. The trailer will be unstable if you don't. I'd rather not see the car plastered all over the highway. Keep as much weight at the front as you can.

    • @limitlessbuilds
      @limitlessbuilds 4 года назад +2

      to an extent yes. But as long as the tongue is heavier than the back it will be stable. If he made it weigh roughly 400lbs at the tongue rather than 800-1000, it will still be safe and just as stable

    Good progress on the ASL, it looks as though all that is really left is the remaining outer body panels. I bet you'll have fun getting some testing done at those tracks. Good luck. I suspect there is probably a software update that will address the Navi temp issue. A leaking airbag can cause that fuse to blow, as excessive running will cause the wiring to get hot and blow that fuse. The pump probably hit an internal timer during driving, and then the leak caused the car to drop. After stopping, you cycled the key, and that probably reset the timer. So after it began working again. You should get it checked. On some models, there is also a wiring harness update for the airmatic system, the fuse will get replaced, along with a new relay for the system.

    You let a diesel car run out of fuel ONCE in your life, then on pain of death, you NEVER let it happen again!! Once misjudged fuel level in my old Audi A6 3.0TDi Quattro and it ran out. Not only drained the car battery itself trying to crank it, but probably burned half a tank of fuel from my girlfriends Mini Cooper running it trying to get enough juice back in to it again! You can prime it via VAG-COM or a good scanner (which I have now) - but never going to take that risk again!

    While you're in Cali you should definitely try and make it to Mondi's track event called RACE WARS. Mondi is the owner of the Exotic Car Shop AGX, he's also involved with all kinds of racing and he has a RUclips channel as well.
    Make sure to come out to his Race Wars/Racing for children event on November 23rd at the Auto Club Speedway. It will only be a $5.00 cover to get in and to race and all proceeds will be donated to a children's cause.
    Really hope to see you there, here is the link to he's latest video for reference.

    Wow. Towing that trailer with a 1.25” hitch converter to 2” is sketchy! Shocked it didn’t bend

    Nice time, take the 401 to windsor and cross at detroit. much easier than going thru niagara falls.

    Thats like the usual amount of headache an Airmatic Benz gives you. Try to maintain the system next round so it wont collect moisture inside the system and kill it.

    Those slicks will now be buggered. They will be sensitive to temperature and after your little excursion in the snow the will have gone hard

    never crank empty diesel fuel system, you will brake your fuel pump. As your pump is lubricated by diesel, and if there is no diesel there is no lubrication. RIP pump :D

      You are thinking of old diesels with injection pumps. This car has a common rail system and is supposed to be self priming more or less.

    • @valdasaa
      @valdasaa 4 года назад

      @@GregoryVeizades not really :) it still mechanical pump. instead of mechanical injection pump assembly who feeds individuality different injector, you have one pump one tube witch feeds all injectors with same pressure, thus its called common rail. Only injector himself regulates how long it will be opened. I own a diesel with common rail and when i change fuel filter i always prime my system, else you can crank till the cows come home, and you will f.. your pump. Ask me how i know ;)

    the compressor needs to be replaced. when the system leaks for long periods the pump wears out. you should have pump overheat codes lol
