    She is America's Princess. Give her a break. We are lucky to have her. Voice or no voice.

    Her voice may not be as strong as it once was, but she can still go. Judy and Vincente would be proud of their baby girl. And so would her godmother, Kay Thompson.

      Her great strength is her storytelling, even when her voice was at its peak, around and about the Fosse years. It’s the way she can draw you in, timbre or tone or accuracy be damned. At least to us forgiving fans.

    Liza is very much like her Mother in the fact that they can always wow an audience even if they arent in tip top shape. Liza is also a living legend and known by just the mention of her first name like JUDY. But no matter how great Liza sings she can never touch the magic Judy Garland exuded. There is just something so awesome about a Garland Performance even for those of us who werent alive when Judy performed. Her body of work still outshines every other singer then and now.

      You have absolutely nailed it almost. There is NO way Liza should have ever been compared to her mother. I can't understand or more importantly hear how in Heavens name you can compare them. Even before Liza lost her voice she wasn't very good. Even Judy called Liza her dancer, and called Lorna her singer. And those statements were made in an interview on April 23, 1962 on a radio program celebrating the first anniversary of Carnegie Hall.

      Terry Grant I think Lorna is a terrible singer. She’s trying to ride her mama’s coattails, but she hasn’t anywhere near the talent.

    An absolutely fantastic tribute from one superstar to another. And just as her mother made those songs her own, so does her daughter. Amazing.

    I was too young to have seen her Mom(Judy Garland) in concert but loved listening to her music over the years. I have her performance of this on CD and she is fantastic. Liza has a decent voice but different. I adore her also yet her Mom more. Now in this number she is perhaps not in the best voice, she struggles to hit some high notes, yet she gives it 100%, She know how to tell a story and act out a song. I wish I had seen her in concert. God bless Liza. Sending Prayers.

    Sing it Liza!! Liza still can wow her crowds. Her voice may be older, but she is quite the good actress so she can emote a lot of emotion in her voice along with her still great dancer moves, acting ability, and dramatic facial expressions. I love her. She's a legend Liza with a Z.

    And Liza said she doesn't sing her mother's songs. Like hell she doesn't! This is legendary. I'm so glad the audience gave her a standing O. I would have been really pissed to witness any other reaction. I can't believe they were not screaming and singing along as the performance was in progress. I certainly was!

    @NFitalianGuy Oh my yes, my favourite Judy Garland recording is her 1961 concert at Carnegie Hall. That was one hell of a concert :D hehe. I love how natural and warm she was to her fans and how she made a joke out of the fact she forgot the words to 'You Go To My Head' (although I think she did that intentionally, since the other recordings of her singing it live she forgets the same lyrics each time lol). Judy was marvelous. We will always love and cherish her through her music and her films

    When Liza sang this AT the Palace it was one of those undeniable Great moments. Lots of people can talk about sho biz and all that, dream about it, write about it, well she IS it.
    Its like Judy at Carnegie Hall or Frank at the Sands or Michael Jackson Motown 25, Barbra comeback concerts, thats it. It doesnt get higher than that.

    Liza does brillantly with this medley and her mom would ever so proud of her rendition of this but this medley for me belongs truly only to Judy. Both are great legends at The Palace, especially Judy who broke every box office record there and played there three times, even on this I can sense Judy is right on stage with Liza and cheering her on by shouting yeah baby yeah

    Liza is simply the best entertaiiner besides Judy and Lorna ! IM proud of her and how far she has come but always thought she sang very well but shes very good now too ! Judy would be very proud of her daughter Liza ! I know I am very proud of Liza ! She has a great sense of humor that she gets from her mother and so does Lorna ! They focus on the positive and the here and now dont look back at anything in the past they live in the present not the past but they love Judy like we all do !

      I love Judy AND Liza. I've seen Liza in concert 4 times in the 1970's. Her voice is going now but she still has great showmanship. Unlike her sister, Lorna Luft, Liza RARELY sings songs judy sang. The difference between them is that that's ALL Lorna does. Sings Judy's songs and talks about Judy. She wouldn't have a career if she didn't talk about Judy and sing her songs. Lorna's voice is gone now .She sings SHARP all the time. It's annoying and her vibrato is very forced.

      Yes, I saw Liza at the Kennedy Center. But here there is heavier slur of speech some. I agree her voice was going in this performance. Others here haven't said so. Thanks for your honesty.

    Oh this is so painful to watch and hear having seen her several times in the 70s and 80s when she was in her prime voice and dance wise. The last time I saw her she was on the bill with Sammy Davis Jr and Frank Sinatra and Sinatra did the same thing. He was basically an old man with hardly any voice left. Off key and mumbling words. She was great as was Sammy. I found out Later that Sinatra and Liza had done the tour for Sammy as he was having financial troubles. We all need friends like that. Id so rather see video's of her in her prime than to see her like this. Its depressing when your Idols can use their gifts anymore. I was aprofessional performer when I was a young man and a great Dancer I wouldnt dream of going on stage now ar 60 and evan attempting to dance again. Nobody wants to see that. Even Gene Kelly knew that and retired to Directing.

  • @terrygrant3467
    @terrygrant3467 6 лет назад +2

    Please folks, I understand the loyalty to Liza because of her mom. But, I think it was totally embarrassing. Liza ok voice is totally gone, and Lorna's once very good voice is totally gone. So it's time you face facts they both should retire. As much as Judy loved her kids I'm sure she would agree it's time to hang-up the sheet music.

  • @terrysmith8749

    I'm sorry, but, Liza was never a good singer, and now she is just plain awful. Lorna who was a good singer at one time, has also lost her voice. Liza's performance at the palace was terrible. Yelling is not singing. For some reason, Liza's supposed greatness has escaped me. Judy is my all time favorite, since I was 8 yrs. Old. Judy's daughters are good, but, not as good as MAMA.

  • @grai
    @grai 10 лет назад +4

    I'm always sorry that Liza Minnelli constantly sought to copy her mother because it invites comparison and that's a little uncomfortable because Garland was the greatest singer of the 20th Century and Liza wasn't gifted vocally at all

    • @mike48877
      @mike48877 4 года назад +1

      "constantly sought to copy her mother" may be your opinion. But, in fact, Liza always did her own thing in her own way and in her own style. Any similarity is in the genetics.
      It's Lorna who had MADE A CAREER out of being Judy Garland's daughter. And, she'll never let you forget it!
