As a previous owner of 2 Goldwings, 3 Burgman’s, 919 Honda Hornet, a Reflex, a couple of Kymco’s and my present Honda Silverwing; I must say the Silverwing is my favorite. Mine is an old gal, 2003 with 46k but looks brand new and runs like a top. It’s been the most reliable and has taken my wife and I over Mt. Mitchell on the BRP. I had thought about selling it but when fuel topped $4 gallon, I decided to put it back into service as a daily driver. From my experience, the SW is the Swiss Army knife of scooters as a do all for urban and touring. I don’t tour like I used to but I live out in the country and regularly use state highways that run 75-80mph. When I rode smaller scooters I had to move to the shoulder to let the cars pass. Now I can safely keep up with traffic.
Really enjoy these comparisons. Bought an Elite 80 in 1999 and rode it for two years before buying a Honda Silverwing FSC600 in 2002.. Both are great for what they are. In March of 2022 I'll have my Silverwing for 20 years! Great bike!! 😀
I’ve owned a Honda Deluxe 150, Honda Helix, and just bought a new 2022 Honda ADV 150. All three have been Watercooled and very dependable. This new 2022 is much improved from my first scooter in 1985.👍
I agree my first was elite 80, next elite 250, then helix with cruise control love it (took a trip from Stuart to Jacksonville FL, and next rebel ( trip to fort Myers top speed 70) and last the silver wing trip okeechobee great rode 60 - 70 with reserved. Don't like u turn . But with screw in my left ankle it great.
I recently purchased a Helix, and I agree: it's an amazing scooter. I hate driving my 4-wheeled conveyances now, and only do so if I must due to the rain and/or cold.
What a perfect idea for a video for those of us who want to break into the scootering world but can’t afford a $3K Burgman. Thank you! And, FYI, my ‘87 Honda Helix agrees with your favorable assessment.
Great job 👍🏾I always liked the scooters I had my first moped when I was in 8th grade 🤷🏾♂️🤠 now at 54 years old I like to get 2 of the 150cc for my wife and I just to have some fun and laughs. Life's to short you know .
Great shootout guys! I've owned motorcycles up to 1500 & 1800cc Goldwings over the decades and downsized to a 1996 Helix 250cc 2 years ago. Yeah it can do 75 on the top end but I usually just ride roads where I can cruise at 50 to 60+ all day. It is all I really need anymore and a real dream to drive and handle with no shifting and much lighter 350 lb. over those 800+ lb. monster Goldwings. It's a real historic classic and I won't be getting rid of it anytime soon but I may still might be in the market for a 400 or 650cc Burgman as another collectors item if the right deal comes along.
I rode an Elite 80 for 15 years until the bike was stolen last year. Thankfully i was compensated a decent amount for my loss from my insurance company. I agree the bike was fun, and i loved it myself. However there are 2 problems that plague the Elite 80. One is the intake carb boot in between the air box, and engine. The boot is made from a combination of rubber, and metal. Over time the rubber separates from the metal causing air leaks which results in hard starting/rough idling/stalling, and the air box tube popping off the carb causing a throaty throttle noise. You can test the boot with the side cover off, and the engine idling. If the idle changes as you flex the carb by hand more than likely the boot is cracked. I mended mine with JB Weld which did last awhile, but cracked again. The boot is hard to find in the used market, and very expensive brand new if you can find it. Another problem is the original stock tires are garbage. If you are going to buy tires i would greatly recommend to stay away from the cheap tires, and get decent named brand tires. Been there done that. The cheaper tires easily wear out regardless of how agressive the tread is. I recommend Michelin S1's, and convert the tires to tubeless with tubeless valve stems. From experience i blew 2 rear tubes out which i think was caused by heat build up from the rear wheel. Honda used tubeless wheels with tubed tires on these bikes which i would never understand lol. As for prices to find a decent cheap Elite 80 right now for under 1000 dollars is very hard.
I've owned a 2013 PCX 150 and currently have a '21 PCX (160). I put 8k on the '13, and currently have 16k on the '21. I loved both bikes but last week I purchased a very clean '06 Helix. I've always liked them but never owned one. I recently completed the Scooter Cannonball Run with the PCX, and there were 4-6 Helixes in the bunch. You could tell all the owners loved their bikes. I like mine so far so I guess the PCX will be up for sale shortly.
I love scooters.. all of them. I agree with your assessment totally. My experience include the Yamaha morphous 250 and the majesty 400. And they parallel the helix/ Silverwing . The bigger one is faster, yes.. but better? If you are going to do a LOT of touring... yes. But if you are going to do city riding, and SOME touring.. the helix or morphous will fill the bill. I have run 2000 mile trips on the morphous. With no trouble. I only had the helix a few years and it was great for the rides that i did but i never got much farther than a couple hundred miles from home on it..
Yea, the Helix is something special, 64in wheelbase, Honda understressed this engine to run on about 80% so you can go WOT all day long with no issues, feels so smooth and balanced, you dont ride on the Helix, you ride in it
The Reflex was the replacement for the Helix in North America. In Europe, it was called the Spazio. In Japan it was the Fusion. All were designated as the Honda CN250. Don't just make stuff up, man.
The Helix has the best seat and good storage but is quite long. One feature to consider is the availability of accessories. The PCX 150 which I had did not have a driver backrest available. Good video review. Thanks.
Just found your channel and really enjoying the content! 👍 As an owner of a newer model Reflex, always nice to see other scooter enthusiasts sharing their appreciation for these machines!
I have a Honda helix 250 1987. Had it for 7 years Put about 16 hrs on it . Not at once over 6 months then it set for 6/12. So now it’s 7. Other than needing a battery every year because it sits outside covered ,,it starts every time ..just got tags waiting on battery and then my commute about 1hr 15 minutes each way .. Months ago I got rear brakes puton,,belt,,gave the guy new carb I purchased to put on and he said didn’t need it wowww. AFTER THIS VIDEO I KNEW IT WAS A REASON I DIDNT GET RID OF IT. LIKE I DID MY 150 elite
I have a 2007 Silverwing and I enjoy it as much as my $45K Harley CVO ultra. And I picked it up for $1700! I love the storage and the way it handles highway speeds. Go 80 with traffic all day long. What kind of mileage do you get with yours?
So basically, it all boiler's down to the application of where and how long you're riding for. In town with constant red light to red light stop and go traffic the smaller scooters are better and touring you want a larger scooter. Inner city riding the smaller scooter are better. If you live in the suburbs, the 250cc are perfect and long distance and touring the Silverwing. It all makes sense. What we all need are 2 or 3 scooters in the garage to satisfy the riding one is going to do that day.
There are people who've put 70k + miles on their Silverwing. My 2006' has 20k with no problem AT ALL. It's the most comfortable, and will go 115 like google says. Been there done that. So when your needing to use the interstate and you want to pass someone who's doing 70+ it's funny to look at the driver's face and how surprised that a scooter can go that fast. Also, at a light it will beat most 'normal' car's. 0-60 in like 7.0. 50m.p.g. still ain't bad.
When I first started scooter shopping (over 6'2" and in my fifties at the time), a couple of Helix scooters were the first motorbikes I sat on. The Helix's right foot brake pedal turned out to the deal breaker for me. I ended up with a 2009 Kymco Grandvista 250. Great commuter (30 miles each way on rural roads) with good storage, and capable on interstate quality roads--though, I always thought I would feel safer on a heavier machine in such situations. After 6 years and ablack ice crack up, I've benn considering re-entering the market. An honest to goodness '03 Reflex (looking nothing like a Helix) is available nearby. I wonder...
I just bought a Helix and I cannot get used to the foot brake. Plus, there's no room to rest your right foot when cruising. I'm thinking of looking into retrofitting a left brake lever to the bike. Can't be too hard as the Helix has a cable operated rear brake.
They all look good in their own way, but the Helix has that Retro 80s cool that you cant put a price on especially as I don't think they were sold in my Nation.
I like the Helix and sometimes drove my uncle's. However, they are getting long in the tooth. For that reason alone I'm looking at picking up a PCX next month.
If they redid the Helix with a bit more power, modernization of the instrumentation while retaining the style, and potentially a larger rear wheel. I'd buy that. Honda should revisit this design; underrated but cherished.
There are many scooters that have exactly what you stated the Helix needed. The reality is the Helix is just fine as is. Any move to make it faster accelerating or give it more top end ultimately effects the weight and handling of the machine. I think the Helix is perfect how it is.
I agree that the helix is the (second) best scooter ever.. i owned one.. loved it. I later got a Morphous. Yamaha 250 scooter. Same basic rig..13/13 wheels, disc's both ends, efi, electronic ignition. Its a "better" helix. I also owned a 400 majesty.. close to the silver wing in size and power. Loved it too. But if i had a choice morphous 1, helix 1.1 maj 2.
Sorry if my question is ignorant but scooters are automatic no manual gear changes but it's still a two wheeled bike I've never rode before do scooters atleast give you that training to get the balance on a two wheeled motorcycle or is the balance different between a scooter and a motorcycle?
A few things missed in your comparisons that I would've liked. I want a scooter to put on the back of my RV instead of dragging around a 3500lb car. I am 270lbs my wife is 185lbs. Naturally a second rider with weight can only choose the Silverwing. The top end will also be reduced by at least 40 mph but will still allow for highway driving. Any of the others will crawl with that weight. Secondly the only one with ABS is the Silverwing again. Stopping distance is a huge safety issue. Next acceleration to get on a freeway, Silverwing again wins hands down. Storage capability Silverwing! Antitheft Silverwing. Most Gorgeous Silverwing. Dependability hmmmm. usually the one that has to work the least is more dependable. Silverwing! Price Silverwing!
i had a silverwing that was turbocharged and like a idiot i sold it. and it took me 4 more years to find a 2012 with 109 miles on it and i drove almost 800 miles round trip to get it. and it will be burried with me. it will never be sold again. and i have a Trail 125 and plan on soon to have every bike you have there and then some others too.
My 2 cents, buy a 150 or 250cc Honda, I prefer the late 80's and 90's. Cheap, reliable, liquid cooled, more than enough speed for most commuting. I don't think any scooter should be on the highway and when you start getting into 400cc and larger engines, we start getting into a whole different animal. I've owned many scooters, you can't beat the Helix and my next pick would be an Elite 150 or 250, 87 is better looking IMO.
Thank you for doing this video. It was very enjoyable to watch and super informative. I have a u.s. model “reflex” 250 and ride it everyday that it’s not raining. Have ridden as much as 400 miles in a day. I have recently been toying with getting another scooter. Been researching silverwings because I’m your size and do enjoy longer rides. But the fuel economy has steered me clear of that. I really really am interested in the helix. I do have a question for you helix owners. How much does the foot brake get in the way of your foot room when stretched out cruising? My only concern. And my reflex is the same CANDY Red!! Love that color.
I bought.am 03 silver win two months ago 16650 miles. $2500 fresh service and tires. Givi wind screen and givi rear box! I'd never ride a scooter with top speed of 65mph . just saying!!

Love my miniwing as well. Doesn’t hurt that it fits me well too.
Just bought an 02 with 4700 miles for $1800.
It's a crotch rocket disguise as a scooter! I love it!!!!
HELIX ALL THE WAY!
Really enjoy these comparisons. Bought an Elite 80 in 1999 and rode it for two years before buying a Honda Silverwing FSC600 in 2002.. Both are great for what they are. In March of 2022 I'll have my Silverwing for 20 years! Great bike!! 😀
Just sold my Ruckus and got an 03 Silverwing. Can’t wait until spring!
Silverwing by far the best bike
I sat on a Helix one time and I agree it was noticeably super comfortable.
I actually really like the Helix. The comfort is unparalleled. Most fun I ever had on a two-wheeler.
I love the Helix as well. I'm on my second Helix. People know me as "The Helix guy". Here's my current Helix. ruclips.net/video/6eHH5jANmPo/видео.html
The helix is much better built than reflex. The reflex rattles and squeeks over every bump.
Owned 2 Silverwings, still have one. Love it.

I had a 2011 Honda pcx 125cc brand new, loved that thing so much and had it to a max of 62-3 mph👍🏻👍🏻
I have a Helix, and love it!
I love Honda Scooters. I have PCX and Forza 125 cc (NSS). Both are nice and reliable. Thanks for the clip. Greetings from Polish roads.

Got ours for 800 two years ago and this is very accurate. The ignition key also went on us as well as the muffler.

Great to see videos highlighting/involving Lubbock/Texas Tech. Get out and scooter.

Very nice! Try to test a 16”inch wheel like mine Italian Honda SH300i 😊
have a 99helix and agree its the best i have ever owned
I’m rocking a trail 125 but see a Helix in my future.

😂😂😂 we love the microwave on wheels back there, I want one!
You should check out the Piaggio MP3-400 That's my daily driver (with the touring windshield). Tons of storage. Does 80mpg+. Looks cool/interesting.
Agree I had a mp3 400 loved it . Got rid of it to buy a spyder. Didn't love it. Miss my mpe 400.
Helix 93 I have one of those it awesome
Thanks sir. U helped me a lot on my education.
Awesome video, very informative!!
I had a Burgman 400. I assure you I have never been buttf'ed but I can imagine that that single-cylinder is the same sort of experience.
If they redid the Helix with a bit more power, modernization of the instrumentation while retaining the style, and potentially a larger rear wheel. I'd buy that. Honda should revisit this design; underrated but cherished.

@@papaballoon Let's see what's left of the Yamaha with 50 to 100K miles on it. The Helix, well, I am not sure you can wear one out.
@@bechtoea well it has 40,000 on it now, so...it is a bit more sturdy than my helix was. I think either one will run forever
I owned one in the '80's and loved it very much. It sold me on scooters from that day onwards. I have just today bought my 5th scooter.
I really enjoyed this video. I am researching scooter
Honda helix or Yamaha morphous
In my area, 3-5 year old scooters sell for the same price that they had when new.
It's a shame, that Honda discontinued and never has updated this absolutely genious Helix!
Still made in Japan ;)
Sorry if my question is ignorant but scooters are automatic no manual gear changes but it's still a two wheeled bike I've never rode before do scooters atleast give you that training to get the balance on a two wheeled motorcycle or is the balance different between a scooter and a motorcycle?
Go Elite 80! Lol I want a Niu NGT (pro ofc) 😎
The honda helix in my country is around 3k dollar bike
i had a silverwing that was turbocharged and like a idiot i sold it. and it took me 4 more years to find a 2012 with 109 miles on it and i drove almost 800 miles round trip to get it. and it will be burried with me. it will never be sold again. and i have a Trail 125 and plan on soon to have every bike you have there and then some others too.
oh the silverwing you can put 3 12 packs o f cokes under the seat if you break the top 12 pack in half. LOL
The reflex and the helix are two completely different bikes. I have both, trust me.
@petterhny Yes it had several names internationally. Spasio was one
Which one is good for a guy 6 foot 5 260 pounds?
From the video I'd say the Helix or the Silverwing
My 2 cents, buy a 150 or 250cc Honda, I prefer the late 80's and 90's. Cheap, reliable, liquid cooled, more than enough speed for most commuting. I don't think any scooter should be on the highway and when you start getting into 400cc and larger engines, we start getting into a whole different animal. I've owned many scooters, you can't beat the Helix and my next pick would be an Elite 150 or 250, 87 is better looking IMO.
It's strange seeing the Silver Wing name on a scooter since I had a 1981 Honda gl500 Silverwing touring motorcycle years ago
11:26 - What happened? Did the dude in the truck say I am going to knock down you camera? I don't know what happened but I sense tension.
Uh, editing software perhaps?
Just about any motorcycle is a good choice especially since California gas has come to Colorado.😅
It doesn’t get in your way at all. Helix is a fabulous bike
Hi, I have a helix. And I have big feet. But I find the rear floor brake no problem at all.
I thought it was a bit intrusive, but i have big feet. It isn't too bad tho. Great bike
I bought.am 03 silver win two months ago
16650 miles. $2500 fresh service and tires. Givi wind screen and givi rear box! I'd never ride a scooter with top speed of 65mph
. just saying!!
I cant get my 86 helix started it sucks I wanna ride it so bad
Final word? The best scooter in these kind of reviews are the ones that you own and have the most experience with.
Helix gang
How do I disrestrict a 85 Honda elite 80cc
Only the 2 stroke versions had restrictions. The 4 stroke bikes won’t go any faster.
Reflex looks nothing like the Helix and comfort riding is not even close.🤔
Pcx
prices way higher now...
I love my 03 silver wing can’t wait to stretch her legs
Writing extra comment to trick the aligorithm.

600 all day long
-🙂- But you couldn't tell us WHY you dislike the Helix ... 😤.
The days of cheap gas are over with and there not coming back to look for anybody.
weaves are tougher without a friction zone. i took my msf test on a scooter, thinking it’d be easier. WRONG!!!
Dude you're not gonna get a silver wing with decent mileage anywhere near 2.5k it's more like low end is 3.5k to 6k even in 2022
I just bought one on marketplace 11,651 miles 2003
The Helix is so ugly that it is again attractive
Honda Helix is the ugly Duckling but the best 250cc out there.
Don't get a Honda elite 80 or 50cc scooter if you are over 200 lbs.
the Helix was way to ugly.... :)
Yeah but that helix looks like a dead fish tho.
The reflex is ugly. Looks like a giant fish
The old scooters are just so ugly though
