If you guys watch carefully, Messi doesn't take on as many defenders anymore. He draws the defenders towards him so he can make a killer pass out of the shape the defenders have created to try and contain messi. This leads to him always passing it to Jordi Alba or Neymar or Suarez and leading either to a goal or a cross.
Some people say Messi isn't the same anymore, he is playing a playmaker and a chance creator, with players like Xavi and Iniesta getting old. Messi has to step up and create chances for his team. He has shown that during the World Cup and after, he has the most chances created out of everyone in Europe.
Messi has matured as a player as he cares more for the team.
Yes I understand, but his crazy dribbles are what made the Messi brand such a phenomenon across the globe.

At some point, I was seriously considering of Ronaldo was better than Messi but the feud has definitely been put to rest for me: Messi's the best. We have never seen Ronaldo, or anyone for that matter, fuck up that many defenders that badly with that little of space. Heck, it's like the guy has no nerves at all! He wants to nutmeg that guy, he does it. He wants to get past that goalkeeper, he does it. He wants to score that goal, he does it. You may argue that Ronaldo has the better jumping ability and strength, and I'd agree with you. But Messi's vision and perception of the game makes it so that he doesn't need that jumping ability. As for strength, we all know how much Ronaldo uses it! (Sarcasm-he dives all the time)
Ronaldo only has better diving abilities.
If they put 2-4 guys to follow him everywhere like they do with Messi, he'd be completely neutralized.
***** Messi has undoubtedly been the best so far this year though. Last year and the year before he struggled from a bad injury which put an unfortunate halt to his career for a few months. He's getting back to his best now.

I will be honest here. I used to be a Ronaldo fanboy back when I didn't understand what football was and I just used to watch it for fun and to see who runs faster than anyone else and it was Ronaldo. He still is. But when I understood what Football was, I couldn't find any other player better than Messi. How many times have I heard commentators say "He is Out Of The World". What he does on the pitch is just majestical. Ronaldo is awesome I get that. But he will always be my 2nd best when it comes to skills. How many times have Ronaldo played as a supporter to other Forwards and still managed to steal the show? Messi does that all the time. Even if he doesn't score, he is the star of the match. That tells you who's the boss.

In fact, Messi does a lot of skills, he just do them so damn quick and in so little space most people don't notice them.
The trademark of the great ones of any craft is to make the impossible seem easy, watching Messi is like watching Federer in his prime, you see them and think "anyone can do that" because they make it look so damn easy.
He is also incredibly unpredictable, try to stop the video on a match before he does anything and try to guess what he is going to do and when, it's extremely difficult, he might as well run, change direction, make a short or long pass, not to mention when he is running, then it becomes madness.

When Lionel Messi loses form, Barcelona go down as well.
I don't know any footballer currently that exceed Messi. If one can state that, presumably they are a fan of that kind of footballer, this includes Arjen Robben, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan and others.
If you think one is better than Messi, i would advocate you to watch his best performances this season with F.C. Barcelona such as ones vs. Bayern Munich, Bilbao (in the Copa Del Rey final), Manchester City. He is just magical.
