    I took my CNA test today, did not take any prep courses and had challenged the test. All I used to study was your videos- I had this skill, measure pulse, and ROM of elbow and wrist and I PASSED!! The test administrator told me she could not criticize or penalize me for one thing, that my skills were perfect and spot on-I have you to thank for that! Thank you so much for making these videos.

    Just wanted to let you know, I took my exam yesterday (FL) and passed. Your videos were the reason. My skills were ROM: wrist and elbow. Pulse and Partial Bed Bath. I was nervous as hell but I proceeded just like I saw in the video. Flawless. I called the hosipital to let them know I pass as well. I should have my offer letter early next week. Watch the video's guys. You will pass. I watched each one at least 2 times.

    Please watch the video again. During the opening, I stated that I was leaving to wash my hands (handwashing is not shown as it is demonstrated in another video), and gloves are applied before I wash the patient's face (although for the exam, they are optional). The wheels are already locked (please see the introduction video for this skill) and raising the bed is not required as many beds in many settings do not have that ability (home care, assisted living). This video is correct.

    Yes, explaining every step makes the patient more aware of what you are doing and therefore, more cooperative. Put yourself in their position, what would you want to know? By telling them everything you are doing, it eliminates the discomfort and fear of the unknown. YOU know what you are about to do, but the patient doesn't. Great observation and good luck in your classes!

    I took my Prometric this morning and this was the hardest skill I had gotten but I just remembered everything you did and I passed! If not for your videos I don't know how I would've done because the class I took wasn't helpful enough with the actual hand on skills. Thank you so much! To anyone studying for your Prometric in the state of Florida, these videos along with the Prometric checklist will really help you to pass. First try at both written and skills and I'm done! Thanks again!

    Yes, if side rails are present. However, the test does not grade on side rail use, which means that even if you use them, you would have had to promote safety as if they were not used. Therefore, having the patient scoot toward you before turning is the appropriate way to ensure that they remain safely in the bed without the use of siderails as they are always in the center of the bed. This is what they are looking for since siderails are not always available. Thanks and good luck!

    Thank you for your nice compliment. Raising the bed to a comfortable working height is not required for the test and can actually cause the candidate to fail if the forget to lower the bed at the end of the skill (a serious safety concern). To increase passing ability for the exam, we demonstrate this skill without raising the bed. Additionally, many patients in home care or ALFs do not have beds that raise, so students need to know how to perform this skill for those, as well. Thanks!

      Ma’am EVERY test ARE DIFFERENT. There are exams that do not require that you lower the bed. All test examination are different. It will depend on where its taken or WHO is giving the skills test. For example, if you are tested by Prometrics, then you do not need to touch the bed.

    No, I am sorry that we do not have that video at this time. We will certainly consider that task for future video productions! To perform that skill, you would position the patient onto their side (using the technique on side-lying position) and give the backrub then, before placing the pillow roll behind their back that keeps them in that position, then proceed with other pillow placement (please see side-lying position for specific demonstration of pillow placement). Thank you and good luck!

    There should be a dirty linen hamper within easy reach during the skills exam. If there is no dirty linen hamper within easy reach, you can place the soiled items on an area of the barrier, but keep the dirty items and clean items separated (i.e., on each side of the wash basin). You can then dispose of your items all at once at the end of the skill. This video demonstrates placing the dirty linens on the barrier, away from the clean items. This is acceptable for the exam. Good luck!

    For the exam, they only require demonstration on the face, torso, ONE arm, and back. You do not have to wash the other arm (they know you know how because you already demonstrated on one arm), but you do have to dress both arms in a clean gown. Hope this helps! Good luck!

    Washing from the waist down is covered in another skill called peri-care. The state will not have you demonstrate an entire bedbath because it would simply take way too long. They have divided it up into sections and made each section a separate skill. For the test, the care plan they give you will indicate exactly what areas to wash. This video is prepared according to those standards. Hope this helps!

    Yes, you will use lotion to give a back massage to the patient. I obtained lotion at 9:18 on this video, warmed it in my hands and gave a brief backrub (3 times up from waist in circular motions) until 9:38. Please review the video at these times to view the back massage. After the massage, I used a towel to wipe off excess lotion, which is another important point for the exam. Good luck!

    You should gather your supplies only AFTER you have washed your hands (so you have clean hands to gather your clean supplies). Your hands will be dirty after closing the curtain at the beginning of the skill, so wash them after your opening. You can use any name you choose for your patient, but Mrs. Jones works well. You may store all clean washcloths in the water to keep them warm until ready to use but soapy washcloths are not returned to the basin to keep the rinse water clean. Thanks!

    You have to wash the face, neck,chest, abdomen, back and one hand and arm. This is exactly as the care plan will instruct you to perform this skill. This is how this skill is demonstrated in this video. The skill should be performed for the test exactly as performed in this video. Thanks for the question.

    @JenoJen06 Thank you for your comment! You must use a different area of the washcloth for each eye when cleaning the face, with no soap and discard that cloth after use. The washcloth you use on the torso can wash the entire torso without changing leaves because there are no body openings on the torso. We only have to change leaves if we are cleansing a body opening to prevent cross-contamination. Hope this helps! Good luck in clinicals!

    Yes, Prometric is the only testing agency that administers the CNA exam in Florida. This keeps testing uniform and consistently administered using the same specific testing standards for every CNA candidate in Florida. You may read these standards that you will be tested on by going to Prometric's website for Florida and clicking on the link for clinical skills checklist. This link can also be found on the bottom of our website. Good luck!

    Hi, I live in Florida and tomorrow I'm taking my CNA exam. I've watched your video many times. I asked the school if I can take the exam you demonstrate. They said, no. I have to it accordingly to the skills sheet. We don't put a barrier on the table or even a towel under the arm to the keep the bed dry. Your steps seem so much easier. We don't undress the gown in the beginning either. I feel like as though yours is a smoother technique.

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 лет назад

    Yes, the state considers this an approved method of holding the washcloth. "containing the corners" means that the washcloth is not flapping around. This method keeps control over the washcloth as you use it. It is also the only way to completely ensure that you are using a completely different are of the washcloth for each stroke, preventing cross-contamination. The mitt is an old method, still acceptable, but this new method is preferred. Thank you for your question and good luck!

    No, you will not fail if you get more than you need, but since there is a limited number of linens available during testing days, you may be restricted by the evaluator from taking an excessive number during your skill to ensure that there are enough for all testing candidates. Anything that you do not use must be placed in the soiled linen container. Do not return unused linens to clean linen storage because they are no longer considered clean. Thanks!

    Regarding the basin, you should never put anything away wet. As long as the disinfectant dries before you store the item, your method is fine, but if it is still wet, that is a problem. Regarding handwashing, you will need to wash your hands (rubbing for 20 sec THEN cleaning nails) until the evaluator tells you that you can simulate handwashing. When she tells you that, you will then just SAY you are washing your hands, you don't actually have to wash them. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 лет назад

    Yes, you did hear five in the video. The state changed the standard to have candidates only clean one arm for the test, instead of both arms. You needed 5 washcloths previously but now only need 4. You will not be given any washcloths. All of your supplies will be on a linen cart and in the bedside cabinet and it is up to you to choose what supplies you need. You only need 4 washcloths for this skill and the evaluator may prevent you from taking more if they are running low.

    If you take 5 washcloths (and the evaluator lets you), you can use them as you described, without reusing the rinsing washcloth. Either way is fine for the exam. You are not being graded on how many washcloths you take, but you are being graded on not re-using the face washcloth, not putting soapy washcloths in the basin and washing, rinsing and drying all body parts mentioned in the care plan. Good luck!

The written and clinical components of the test are given on the same day. Both sections must be passed to receive certification. • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 лет назад

    Great question. But your gloves are soiled and you don't want to touch the sheet with those gloves (it will go right up next to her face). However, you need the gloves on to dispose of the dirty linen and clean the basin. So, the best solution is to make sure the patient is safely in the center of the bed and covered and explain that you are cleaning up and will be right back. That covers patient rights, safety and infection control principles. Good luck!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  11 лет назад

    Yes, the patient deserves to know what you are doing with their body. You are familiar with the skills, you do them everyday. But your patient may not know what you are doing because they don't have this done every day. Think about how anxious the patient will be having a bunch of strangers poke and prod him without explanation. Eventually, he may begin to resist. Be nice and talk to the patient, telling them what you are doing. You will be a valued team member and the patient will like you!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  11 лет назад

    For the exam, you are instructed by the care plan to wash the face, neck, chest, abdomen, side, one arm and hand and back. You must follow the care plan. Therefore, for the exam, you will not wash the other arm. In a clinical setting, it is important that you follow the care plan - if the patient has a wound on his arm, the nurse may not want it washed. Because the nurse has more information, they create the care plan-CNAs follow it. This skill tests your ability to follow the plan. Thanks!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 лет назад

    @forbetterme For the Florida state exam, you are not REQUIRED to adjust the bed to waist level. You may, if you wish, but it is not a requirement. However, if you do elevate the entire bed, you MUST remember to lower the bed at the end of the skill, otherwise the patient may fall when getting out of bed because the floor is further away than expected. Forgetting to lower the bed is an automatic failure. Big risk to take on the test, when you are likely to forget things due to stress :)

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 лет назад

    Raising the bed to a comfortable height for the Florida exam is optional. You cannot re-use washing washcloths because they will become cold (you cannot put them into the basin of water as this contaminates the rinse water) so you DO need 4. Mitten folding is not required as long as you keep control over the washcloth (holding them in a diamond shape is fine) and NEVER start on the far side because if you lose your balance you will fall onto the patient! Thanks for the comment!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 лет назад

    For the Florida CNA exam, siderails are not used. This is because CNAs can work in a variety of settings in which siderails are not legally allowed, because their use is considered a restraint. Siderails may only be used with a doctor's order. Therefore, it is important to learn how to safely perform this skill without siderails by scooting the patient toward you then turning them on their side away from you in the center of the bed. Thanks for the comment!

    It is acceptable to touch the curtain with your elbow because your elbow is not going to touch the patient or any of your body openings (eyes, nose, mouth, genitals) - which is essential for disease transmission. You will need to use your elbow to open the curtain in a clinical setting after washing your hands. We are happy that you are finding our videos helpful. Good luck!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  11 лет назад

    The testing center must have liquid soap or spray soap (bar soap is not permitted for the exam). You will apply the soap (regardless of the form it is in) to the washcloth before washing. Do not put soapy washcloths back in the basin. If there is no disinfectant, proceed as if there is...dump, rinse, set down, (spray if available), paper towel to pick up, paper towel to dry inside, paper towel to dry outside, one to open drawer. Good luck!

    The care plan will indicate the areas to be washed in a partial bedbath. A partial bedbath is not defined by particular body parts - it just indicates that something less than the whole body will be cleaned (this can be due to a variety of reasons). Refer to the care plan to determine what areas the nurse wants you to wash. It will vary patient to patient, situation to situation. That is why care plans exist - to personalize care and provide direction to care team members.

    You only need 4 washcloths for this skill. 1st to wash face (water only, no soap), set aside. 2nd to wash torso and closest arm, set aside. 3rd to rinse torso and arm, put back in basin. You don't have to wash or rinse 2nd arm any longer for the test (this is where the 5th washcloth would have been used). Dress patient. Turn patient on side. 3rd washcloth to wash back with soap, set aside. 4th washcloth to rinse back, set aside. Give backrub. Good luck!

    You should NEVER lean over a patient to wash the side furthest from you. If you lose your balance, you will fall ONTO the patient! Not only that, but reaching and stretching across a patient can increase your risk of a back injury. You should wash what you can comfortably reach closest to you, then go to the other side of the bed and repeat on that side. This is a safety issue (for you and patient). Thank you for your question!

    No. The use of siderails is not graded on the exam. You don't need to raise the side rails for this skill, you can scoot the patient toward you first, then roll them to the side and that keeps them safely in the center of the bed without having to touch the side rails. However, if you want to put it up, they will not dock you for that. Good luck!

    Either method is acceptable (the mitt method is actually the outdated method, but still acceptable). Using the "leaves" method ensures that no contaminated area of the washcloth is reused. Holding the washcloth folded in fourths is acceptable, as it keeps the washcloth from flapping around (the intent of this requirement). Good luck!

    In Florida, you are not required to check the wristband and there will be no meal card on the tray. Each state may have different requirements, but Florida recognizes that a great majority of our patients are not in an environment that utilizes wristbands - assisted living, homecare and most nursing homes do not use them. Identifying the patient by name is a much more accurate way of identifying the patient. Your state, however, may have different standards so check with the nusring board.

    Please view Prometric's website (the testing company) by going to allcnas dot com and clicking on the article for Florida CNA test registration. When you get to Prometric's website, click on clinical skills checklist for a listing of all the steps required for the CNA exam for each skill. You will note that you MUST protect bed linen from becoming wet. Using a barrier keeps your clean supplies clean (the table may not be clean). Use Prometrics published checklist for best results. Good luck!

    Yes, we have a vidoe on making an occupied bed. Please search on RUclips for 4yourcna.com occupied bed and it will come up! We do not have a video on unoccupied bed, because it is the same procedure without the patient portion! Good luck! Thank you for watching our videos!

    The evaluator will not give you supplies for any skill. You will be responsible for selecting the appropriate supplies from the supply shelf. 4 washcloths are used for this skill. 1 for the face (no soap) and this one is set aside because it is contaminated with body fluids. 1 to wash the torso and nearest arm, set aside, 1 to rinse the torso and arm, put back in basin then turn patient and apply soap to that washcloth for back then last washcloth to rinse back. Good luck!

    You do not add soap to the basin. The basin holds clean water for rinsing. You will add soap to the washcloth, clean the area and set that washcloth aside. You will then rinse the area with a new washcloth (water only), the same way you washed the area. You rinse the exact same way you wash, only with water, no soap. Hope this helps! Good luck!

    Thank you for your comment! We are so happy that you are finding our videos helpful in preparing you to care for a relative. The soap is spray soap, or "No-rinse" soap (sometimes called "Peri-wash". It can be purchased in medical supply stores or online in various medical supply outlets. There are many manufacturers, and many variations. They make it easier to clean and rinse the patient without drying the skin excessively. Good luck!

    For the exam, you will have to talk to the manikin as if it were a real patient. The testing evaluator will answer for the manikin. If you do not talk to the manikin, you will fail. It is important that you let the patient know what you are going to do before you do it (even on the manikin). This is especially important when performing personal care. Thanks and good luck.

    This skill only requires one basin because you do not put soap in the water, only on the washcloths. Soapy washcloths do not go back in the basin, therefore the water stays clean for rinsing - so you only need one basin. The testing center will limit the amount of washcloths so that there are enough available for everyone to test that day. 4 washcloths is sufficient, most evaluators will not allow more than 5. Good luck!

    You may leave the patient's arm under the blanket for warmth and privacy. The dirty linens were disposed of and the basin cleaned before the work surface was restored. At the end of the skill it is very clearly stated that "I will wash my hands, make any corrections and tell the evaluator that my skill is done." Handwashing is not shown at the beginning and end of each skill for time constraints, but it is verbally acknowledged. Good luck!

    For the Florida state exam, it is not required that you check the patient's ID band because many patients in many settings will not have ID bands (home care, assisted living, many nursing homes). Because they will not be present in many settings, it is not a requirement of the exam. Good luck!
