- A video tutorial on how to start a 2017 - 2020 Ford Fusion with a remote key fob that has a dead battery and is showing the message No Key Detected.
If your Ford Fusion remote key fob has a dead or bad key battery or is otherwise broken, the DIC will display NO KEY DETECTED when you attempt to start it.
To start a Ford Fusion with a dead or bad remote key fob:
1. Place the smart key remote fob in the backup slot located in the center console.
2. Start your Ford Bronco as your normally would.
This video will show you how to start a Ford Fusion that has a dead or broken key fob battery, or is otherwise showing the No Key Detected notification and won't start on the following Ford models:

I have a 2020 fusion SE. I always love learning about it and thought I learned everything… How does this work? If the battery is out of it, you would think that it has no power but maybe it still has a working sensor or something? Haven’t been able to try it on my own yetbut it’s definitely very interesting! It must have a sensor because you could put anything down in that little cut out
Yes, there is a sensor that can read a chip in the key fob if the fob is close enough - even if the key fob has no power

there is a chip in the key fob that the vehicle can read if the key fob is in the right spot - even if the key has no power.

Super helpful. Thanks for showing us how it's done. I have been using exactly 1 of my key in the past year, and when I was trying to use the other key today, it didn't work or was lost in the program, is there a way to reprogram it with 1 working key? I appreciate your help in advance ~
You must have at least two working keys in order to be able to program an additional key. However, keys should not loose programming. Have you tried replacing the battery in the non working key fob?
@@PYR-Auto I haven't done that, I will give it a try, and I will let you know. I guess the battery was slowly draining when you are not using it for over a year?

I have a 2015 Ford fusion and when my car is in park the key won’t come out of ignition unless you pop the hood and remove the positive wire to the battery

I had to jump start ours at 1st I thought it was the key fob but it was the stupid HYBRID BATTERY if that dies you cant start the damn car, even though it uses Gasoline more than its tiny range EV battery which is only 25 miles
Does the same apply if the fob is dropped in water? Because a styrofoam cup leaked in the cup holder my key fob was in, I noticed pretty quickly and got it out and the a couple minutes took everything apart and dried it and this method isn’t working. My car keeps saying no key found
not 100% sure on that but I think this would work after the fob being in water

No - the key needs to be programmed to the vehicle

Having the same problem with my husband's 2017 Ford Fusion. I changed the battery in Key Fob and the car would not start nor would it unlock the doors. I manually opened the door with key to get into car. It was said once I did that, the car would chime. That did not happen. So I placed the key fob in the slot in the cup holder and car did not start by push button. What could be the cause?

So what's the problem? I mean this is a hack to get you out of a shit situation, but it doesn't fix anything. Is it the FOB battery? The car battery? A software issue? A hardware issue?
depends - its usually the fob battery but can also be an issue with the vehicle itself
