      I'm confused because Bailey uses male pronouns for several friends who are part of this story and I'm not sure if they're actually male or she just made a mistake in reporting, but I was surprised she had any male friends if she was that scared of men?

    Take a close look at every homeless person you encounter. There was a homeless man that lived in our small town for 10 plus years. He suffered from schizophrenia. The town people loved him. We took care of him. Then he suddenly died from an aneurysm. It was then we found out he was a missing person. His family had been looking for him and they lived only 30 mins away. We just believed his word. This woman is probably in a town and no one realizes there is family looking for her.

    There's an old saying that goes "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean there isn't someone out to get me." I feel like she could both have been mentally ill and also stalked. Think about all the cases Bailey has covered where sadistic people targeted mentally ill and/or homeless women.
    My gut says that guy tearing down her posters knew where she was and was taking advantage of her condition in some way. I sincerely hope she's found alive and can return to her family and get help. Poor woman! ☹

      I agree. My mom's aunt (my great aunt?), Was a schizophrenic. She was incredibly paranoid and often just made up stories or scenarios in her head. There is a possibility that Emma had the unfortunate luck of having an abusive partner or friend who gave her cause to be even more paranoid. But based on her friends accounts, I hope not. Personally, I think she might be alive but maybe even thinks people don't want to see her. Either way, poor thing and I hope she got the help she needed and is off the grid.

    I was working at Starbucks and I helped a woman on two different days and she smelled strange, acted strange and he had an outfit on that was wrong for the weather. A day later I found her missing poster And was able to call the family. She was found later that day because other people found her. But yeah she was schizophrenic and thought she was being stalked. At one point a fireman tried to help her and she got scared and left. I’m wondering if that’s the case for Emma. I hope she’s found

      Kylee Grace after that she might had felt guilty about the assault happening essentially blaming herself for it and thus becoming -not only paranoid about being around men but also- distant from friends and family because she didn’t want to upset and scary them which if you look into that behavior pattern it’s actually pretty common in females who have been assault victims. It’s really sad 😔

    When you were talking about a man who was found 20 years later, it reminded me of what I learned in my psychology class! Apparently, there's this disorder called dissociative amnesia and it separates the person from themselves following a traumatic event. People have even forgotten who they were. I remember in class my prof told us about a man who completely disappeared and went to work for one of those dishwasher jobs in another state. Five years later, he remembered who he was, but he couldn't remember the events after he disappeared to another state. Not entirely sure if it's related to the case you were talking about, but there are cases like this out there!

      HOWEVER my memory dysfunction causes me to remember EVERY dream i have ever had. I remember dreams from when i was 5 years old about Oscar the grouch stealing my carrots... Her Mom came to Victoria, where I live and also Vancouver, across on the ferry. She searched and asked questions tirelessly. Perhaps it was not on the phone and someone reported it wrong because they have extremely strict codes of not giving out any info on women. I know because my Sons birth Mother was in a womens shelter for months. Could be the police helped. Be well

    I think her so called “boyfriend”, the man with the green shirt was harassing her and stalking her. She probably did have schizophrenia and didn’t know how to deal with the situation correctly. She might’ve been lost and when she saw the missing persons poster, she took it down so her “boyfriend” couldn’t find her.

Had I been a cop in either of these situations, I would have tried to talk with these girls and maybe get them some help.

    Ok so I’m reading psychology as university and have done a lot of research on schizophrenia recently. This really sounds like a case of schizophrenia. Delusions (strongly held incorrect beliefs) are a very common symptom and can lead to thinking everyday events have significance relating to you. It is possible Emma had been harassed/stalked and then began to associate unrelated events with this stalker and believe he had followed her and that she needed to dissappear. Auditory hallucinations are also a very common symptom. The part where you mentioned Emma saying the furniture was talking to her seemed very indicative of that. Other relevant symptoms it seems like Emma was displaying include a tendency to withdraw socially, starting fewer conversations and talking less and habitual, repetitive movements (like Emma’s pacing). I’ve literally only heard of this case here but it sounds to me as though emma’s delusion of being followed/actual stalker could have increased to the point where she could have decided her mother was in some way involved in her paranoia. As schizophrenia doesn’t decrease the patients iq, this would not have stopped her from planing a way to disappear and would explain the claims that she was tearing down missing person posters, not wanting to be found. Idk but there’s my two cents

    • @Tenthousandspoons10000
      @Tenthousandspoons10000 4 года назад +38

      Also her hearing the radio in the taxi and thinking it’s about her links into the delusional stuff - it’s called a delusion of reference and is hugely common for schiphrenic patients

The saddest part about this entire story you kind of touched on her parents got divorced, her mom has never gotten over it; her whole life revolves around trying to find Emma. Parts of this story sounds like Emma was sexually assaulted. I'm sure there were issues she had mentally that maybe she didn't know how to acknowledge, but the paranoia of someone following her and her hesitation to be around any situations with men, makes me think someone assaulted her and stalked her after. Just my theory

      I can see where the mom is coming from when you think about the geography of Canada. Perth is a tiny town in Ontario you can't just fly out of there as you wish. And then Victoria is an Island thousands of kms away, there are barely any direct flights flying from there to Ontario. A flight from Ontario to Victoria isn't cheap... you are talking about $800 return and a whole day of travelling. So considering they were having regular contact I could see how the mom was worried but not in a state of emergency yet...

    One of my husband’s best friends from college went off the grid for two months, until he called from his hometown and said “sorry for how strange I’ve been and disappearing like that. But I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia.” Prior to his disappearance, he went from a normal 25 year old student teacher and athlete to completely paranoid and violent. I hear of this happening to people like my husband’s friend, I’m sure it’s a lot more common than we realize.

They found out that her schizophrenia symptoms became more prevalent and she just walked out of her apartment one day and never returned. She lived under bridges and had no idea who she was or how she got there. It is actually very common in the schizophrenic community, especially when family members and friends have no idea it runs in the family and don’t catch the symptoms before it’s too late.
