+Supercars Max Yea I'm sad they've gone for the 'super aggressive' theme for the DB11. And soon the Vanquish will be replaced with something similar. The DB9 and Vanquish are literally so good looking that Aston Martin themselves couldn't improve on thelooks.

+Supercars Max Yes and no, the interior tech is still old compared to the brand new DB11 with all the Mercedes infotainment systems in it. It's just the engines, an AMG V8 vs an Aston Martin V12. If I won the lotto I would buy an Aston no question. Love them.

+yber15 fuel economy sucks,though the gearbox is upgraded it still isn't a double clutch,so that's a nono,plus he's looking at over 200k for a 14 plate and above.
for half the price you can get an amg gt s edition one,then get a stage one ecu tune and have the car on par with the best supercars and still be more fuel efficient.

Correction: DB11 uses a 5.2 litre v12 that is no way associated with AMG.

Yes but the V8 Version of the DB11 that is yet to be released has been confirmed to have an engine from AMG

just a correction... at 7:17 I believe he called the ZF 8 speed a dual clutch transmission. This is incorrect... the ZF unit is a traditional automatic transmission, not a dual clutch. Its quick and smooth shifts are thanks to the continued development of traditional automatic transmission technology on the part of ZF, and the tuning requirements Aston defined for its use in their cars.

2012 - 2014 Vanquish : ZF 6-speed auto (torque converter)
2015 + Vanquish : ZF 8-speed auto (torque converter)
V12 Vantage S : Graziano robotized single-clutch gearbox
By the way you should test drive a 2006/2007 Vanquish S 520 bhp, last of Newport Pagnell factory, 200+ mph top speed, 1086 ever built, incredible sound especially with opened valves !!!
Yes Jack, correct. Hate it when reviewers don't know what they are driving. 2011- 2014 Rapide/S ZF 6 speed, 2015-2019 Rapide S ZF 8 speed. All DB11's, and "new" DBS ZF 8's, and finally 2008- 2012 DBS ZF6 or stick ( IF you can find them...this one is the keeper!). In general, the ZF8 is much quicker/sharper shifting tranny.
This is by far the best replacement test yet and that's saying something considering the Vantage V12, 570S, AMG GT, all going down in history as greats

Aston Martin design is incredible, best looking car in the world. Its so much cooler than ferraris and lambos. I much prefer luxurious looking design than those super sport trying to look futuristic and shit
The ZF 8 speed is a normal automatic transmission with torque converter. Same as used in RR's, BMW's etc. Definitely relaxes things compared to the Sportshift 3. Great review by the way Paul! Keep up the good work.
SPLOOSH!!! My friends can have their stinking Lambos and slow Ferraris. My dream car is literally any kind of Aston Martin. But if I could choose, I would go with the Vanquish.

I'm going to give you some constructive criticism Paul. For the love of god, and I say this in the nicest possible way. Stop filming your bloody face the entire video. Sure, it's a nice face and all, but point the camera at the road while you are driving, it doesn't have to be all the time, but looking at your face for 18 minutes just isn't that exciting. I'd take inspiration from TheSmokingTire, with a small face cam, and a road cam that covers most of the screen. You are sort of falling behind on the production value side of things.

These many comments with no mention of Paul's misconception of the 8-speed ZF gearbox, It is still a single clutch with a torque converter and not a double clutch, as he assumes it to be and mentions above.
The 8 speed ZF transmission is not a dual clutch, Paul. Just a "regular" single clutch auto which shifts very quickly if you want it to.

+Matt Price Totally agree with you mate. The steering wheel and dials are what makes the DB11 a next generation Aston. But the Vanquish just looks waaaaay better from the outside. Just can't get used to the headlights of the DB11.
I like the dials, the wheel is aging but doesn't look that bad, the wheel in the Jag XF, XK has aged way worse imo for example.

It's just the color, there's different spec interiors that look much better than this.
The centre dash is completely terrible, I agree. Everything else is O.K., but not really stunning.

You hit the nail on the head in respect of auto/DC 'boxes. I'm not in this ownership bracket but had the good fortune to drive the AM 4.7 V8 Vantage...manual! The manual was so engaging and setting up for corners so involving I was left thinking an auto removes some of the sheer driving pleasure. What do you think?

For aston martin fans the new vanquish is the superior car, even more so than the new db11. the aston is not about raw power or pure speed. its about british muscle expressed with understated charm, stuning proportions, and exceptional bespoke quality. Not everyone will agree, but that is the point of diversity.

@charlie chetweod which one do u think I should get? 2006 Bentley, 2006 Aston Martin or 2008 Maserati
We test drove all three funnily enough. The Bentley felt completely disconnected from the road and you'd have to get up to 150mph to get any sense of speed, could be a good or bad thing, bad for us as well as it having either the footballer image or old fart with a cigar image, both bad IMO! Maserati was a touch lacking in power and is a heavy car, felt a bit cheap as well as never being up there with the coolness and prestige of Aston's . We chose the DB9 anyway! No regrets at all, sold it at 65k miles, no problems, stunning car in every way! Hope that helps, and no, I'm not an Aston salesman, just being honest.

I see Paul more of a flashy guy, and I just don't see this as the car for him. This is a business mans car. He needs a Bright Orange Hurican, or the 650s that he drove.. Anything that looks good in a bright, flashy color..this would not look good in a crazy color, too classy.

You need to buy the Vanquish Paul - so many of your fans want to see regular Vanquish videos :) If it is out of budget, maybe consider one with the downgraded transmission - it would be an upgrade from your Gallardo anyway, as that has very clanky shifts, and they are pretty much the same as this Vanquish in all other aspects.
Mclaren WILL depreciate like a bomb

Not a chance. Theres a fundamental issue in the way in which mclaren produces and sells its cars and that is that they are consistently producing newer and better cars one after the other, too quickly! In the past 5 or so years (since the 12c was rolled out) McLaren have introduced 7 cars all in a similar price bracket. 12c, 12c spyder, 12c MSO edition, 650s, 650s spyder, 570s, 570gt. And they have all been similarly priced. When the 12c spyder came out for almost no premium over the 12c coupe, 12c coupe owners saw their cars depreciate instantly. Then the 650s came out not long after, destroying the value of all 12c's, so on and so on. And this is not including the 675lt. The vanquish may depreciate at first but keep in mind it is the last N/A v12 tourer from Aston Martin that we know of.
I like Aston Martin, and I personally wouldn't mind buying one if opportunity is there, but they do have a problem. Which is, their cars are not that popular.
I'm seriously tempted to treat myself to one of these, nice car.

MK2 Vanquish is THE most beautiful car on the planet. Such grace, class and beauty. Closely followed by DBS/ DB5. Basically all Astons are stunning. ❤️❤️

I know it’s an old video but MK2 Vanquish got 8 speed later in 2014. Never been same box as Vantage S as that’s an automated manual. MK2 Vanquish has always been either 6 or 8 speed auto ZF box. Great video though as I am looking to buy a Vanquish soon

You mentioned this is the first square steering wheel you have driven with, but you drove a LaFerrari. Was it fairly similar with regard to steering wheel feel?
We had one (2006) here (Erie, PA) that was being sold for $55k US. It had to be hauled to Cleveland, Ohio (dealer) to have a new clutch and pressure plate installed...The repair bill was $13k US!

Having driven one of these I would have to agree that it is a great upgrade to have the new ZF 'box. It's not a double clutch gearbox though.
