  • Following on from our last video NEW Caravan Electrical Standards NEW Aftermarket Compliant Install, Adam & Remi from Enerdrive Dometic, discuss the new Caravan Electrical Installation Standards. Answering your questions;
Why have the new Standards come in?
Batteries; what are they made of? What makes them safe?
Battery safety; every battery manufacture has their own install guide, what requirements do we need follow?
Solar; what are the new regulations for solar? Why have the new changes been implemented?
What deems a new system? If we have AGM and we go to lithium, what deems it to be a new installation that needs to meet the new compliance?
If you have any further questions or would like to upgrade your off-grid system, please contact our Off-grid Specialist on 07 5443 1036 option 3.

I have a 2022 legend caravan, it’s fitted with a 200ah lithium battery, in the same under bed compartment is a gas heater, this area is only vented to the cabin. Is this a safe/ legal installation.

Very good point - as your system was installed prior to the new regulations coming out, your system remains compliant to the time when it was installed. If you choose to update the system like this one, then we would bring it up to current standards.

I reckon all battery should be mounted on the draw bar of the van, never inside also a isolation switch on the outside as well, let the battery breathe and not lock in a box under your bed.

Interesting thoughts. Our technicians concerns are around the draw bar being a potential high impact zone but thanks for your thoughts 😊

Regarding solar in series, do you have to fuse them individually or per series configuration? Because normally you would series them on the roof before coming in.

Our team highly recommend wiring in parallel on RV's as shading on a series setup brings down the power production on all panels.

So do the regulations state any upgrade to lithium phosphate lifePO4 12v systems can only be installed by an certified installer?
Does the regs state anyone DIY fitting life po4 must get certification or signed off?

It looks like you have only isolated the Positive side of the solar panels. Do you also need to isolate the Negative using a Double Pole isolator, as you do have to do this for American standards?

    • @suncoastcaravanservice1977

Single isolation as they are parallel panels according to the Australian Standards it doesn’t require double pole isolation.

That looks like a slat bed, what does a sealed lid look like, I still haven't seen one provided by any You Tube video.

Thank you for your comment. The batteries are both sealed inside the specially made box under the bed as shown in this video, so the bed being a slat bed does not matter as the batteries have been compliantly installed.

Thank you for your question! It would depend on the products & system if that is an option with the manufacturer. Most welcome to call our office to speak directly with Rhys specifically about your situation to advise.
