  • Not all carbs are created equal. Some cause weight gain while others flood your body with the nutrients it needs to keep your metabolism running strong. In this video, I rank carbs from worst to best, so you can make the right choices for weight loss. This is the same type of LCHF information I share with clients as a Health Coach.

Thanks. Can you do a video explaining calories vs. carbs? Everything I have read on PubMed and other science sources says you must create a calorie deficit to lose weight. A number of studies show that while Keto results in fast weight loss, other diets and Keto have the same results after one year as long as you have a calorie deficit on TDEE.

I’m 53, and fast 12noon to 7 pm the following day for 6 days a week. I consume organic instant coffee with organic half and half each morning, usually 1-2 cups each morning. My breakfast is 2 slices of Daves Killer bread, 1 organic avocado and organic slice of tomato with organic sprinkle of chili flakes. Mid- morning I blend organic kale, spinach and organic frozen blueberries with water and ground flax seed for a smoothie. At noon, I will usually have a large cup of pinto and black beans ( I cook each week with dried whole beans in crockpot). I walk daily for 2 miles and do mild resistance on my arms and stretches.
Do you feel my habits are well rounded or do I need to add or remove?

Very good video. Additionally there might be ways to alter the glycemic impact of carbs. There is a study and research in England that shows freezing bread and then toasting it alters the glycemic index of the bread. Likewise there is a study in Sri Lanka where rice is first cooked with some coconut oil first then put in the refrigerator overnight. After its reheated the next day the glycemic impact of the rice is reduced.

So talking weight loss: how do low-fat, high- starch people ALSO do well with weight loss ( the McDougall-ers etc...)? I’m starting to think this all comes down to calories again. It’s so confusing. Whether you choose:
    1)high fat/ low carb --- (Keto-ers)
    OR
    2)low fat/high carb ( McDougall, Ornish)
You can lose weight! So which is healthier and which can you sustain??

This is good information and I know this. Sugar is an addiction and it's hard to remove from your life. I do not eat refined sugars, but do like things like 85% dark chocolate. I bake with no white flours, honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar and also Lakanto for my family and lower amounts of sweeteners. I mostly avoid the muffins, etc. since I do IFand don't eat breakfast. However, there have been desserts. I have gone sugar free for a while a couple of times, but I always seem to fall off the wagon, as they say? Any suggestions to help with this? I struggle more now that I am post-menopausal, I find. Thanks.

It makes SUCH a difference which vegetables one chooses. Yesterday, we had four carrots each (they were sitting in the fridge, left over from our pre-Keto lives), along with our more strictly Keto foods (for our one meal of the day). Then, we had strawberries, which are marginally Keto. Afterward, we both had mood swings, and cravings. That was the second not-so-strict day in a row. For the first time in two months, during which we've been getting measurably lighter by-the-day, the scales (both at home and at the gym) did not register lower numbers. Today, we were back to strictly Keto ingredients, and, eight hours after eating, are experiencing that tingly, euphoric Keto Fasting feeling, again - no cravings at all - just feeling lighter than air... Keeping those carbs DOWN (and, as Dr. Gillaspy says, consuming the non-starchy vegetables packed with nutrients) is the key to feeling great while losing weight.
