    You really can't go wrong with Genelecs. I have the 8340A and 7360 sub. I honestly hear things that I would surely miss on some other monitors. The reveal everything! I have actually tried the Eve Audio and they are fantastic but Genelec is by far my favorite for MIXING.

    After hearing these three models plus the Focal SM9 and ATC SCM25A, in my studio. I ended up going for the Neumann KH310s. But the Focal SM9s were a close second! Genelec were amazing and came in third. Price wasn’t important as I can write it all off as tax. I just wanted the purist sound that had the most details and ended up with the KH310s! I still don’t regret it at all many years later. I’d be lost without my KH310s 😅🙈

    I just got the KH750 for my KH310s and there's no doubt in my mind - or ears - that I've finally got the most accurate monitoring in my 30+ year career! Previously I had the KH805 sub and used Sonarworks but the 750's DSP has tamed my small room issues much better. Do yourself a favour and borrow or hire KH310s for a couple of weeks to get comfortable with them... I have never heard tighter bass!

    • @Prizmadelik
      @Prizmadelik 2 года назад +2

      I second this. I have the Kh310 with the KH750 DSP sub and it's very accurate and the stereo image is incredible. Almost as if you can see the sounds coming out of the speakers. Bass is tight.

      I got the 750 on the way to pair with my Kh 120's, along with the MA1 mic/software. I am in a small, albeit acoustically treated, room. Hopefully the room correction will take care of any major issues that I may be experiencing.

    • @mixphantom0101
      @mixphantom0101 2 года назад +2

      @@Innocence44 The 750 will certainly make a huge difference and will make your 120s sound like they have 12" woofers! The room correction is designed to get the best result in your room unlike other room correction that just tries to make them sound "flat". Most high end monitors are pretty flat so as it's the room causing the problem... boosting or cutting notches of 6-12dB makes your monitors sound unnatural and then the acoustic problems of your room get added to it! The Neumann software aims to maintain the integrity of your sound source within the issues of your room. Over the months I have "tuned" my system by moving my desk, monitors and adding more focused acoustic treatment - each time I run the MA1 it does a little less work!

    • @Innocence44
      @Innocence44 2 года назад +3

      @@mixphantom0101 So I got everything set up just now and with MA1 doing its magic lol I cant believe how tight the bass is in my less than perfect room, . The phase and crossover were set perfectly, there was no me screwing around trying to set it all by ear. You were right, it makes my 120's sound like much bigger speakers, though lets get real, very few studio monitors go as low as an actual subwoofer does. Havent tried mixing/making music on them yet, but only because I've been enjoying just sitting and listening to them ever since. 100% worth it, imo. The sweet spot is much wider now!

      @@SarakopfOfficial I got the 310s. They are very accurate, translate extremely well, and they have this very special ability to lead you into the right mixing descicions. It's like you hear straight away what needs to be done with the mix. But the Neumanns has one MAJOR flaw (at least for me)...they are just extremely boring sounding. And by that I don't just mean boring on bad mixes and bad productions, but it's like nothing ever sounds really exciting on them...and I´m not sure if I like that. I want to have a monitor that in addition to sound extremely accurate also manage to give both me an my clients goosebumps when the mix is right(that is kind of the whole purpose of music). My monitor journey is definitely not over, I will try out the ATC SCM45 and the Genelec 8351B next...

    When I first listened to my KH310 at 1.20 meters distance they sounded unacceptably boxy, just like you experienced. I started to move them around and now they sound truly excellent, but I'm at at 1.7 meters distance, that's of course room dependent. They are quite sensitive to placement (as most speakers, in fact), but having them and not being able to fully optimize it's position is a big downside and the most possible explanation I find to people describing them as "boxy".

  • @NikolausBrocke

      You are right. I've got the smaller 8331s with a 7350 subwoofer and GLM. The improvement in sound with GLM is clearly audible even in an acoustically optimized room. Not only is the subwoofer integration absolutely seamless with the speakers, the entire stereo image is simply cleaned up.

    • @NikolausBrocke
      @NikolausBrocke 7 месяцев назад

      @@syntheee Ok. I have the 1032 with the big subwoofer (19 Hz) for years. For me the subwoofer is very important. I can listen to the same frequency range than the wall mount monitors in professional rental studios. Placing the subwoofer is not easy. To experiment with phase adjustment is very important. When I have the money I will invest in new Genelecs. Investing in monitor speaker is by far the best investment one can do.

    I briefly had the Eve 3070 3-ways. Loved the top end. But they had to go back as it became clear I’d been sent a pair of returns by my local store. As they were difficult to get replaced, I opted for the KH310s. Very different sound (like all speakers). It wasn’t until I listened to some movies thru them that I heard what they can do! As always, it’s a just a question of learning the sound in your own room and, ultimately, how the results translate.

      from what I've heard, the 8341s were not well received by a few people I know, they said the 8331 or 8351 was a better buy. As an audiophile with space concerns and stuff, it was said 8331 with sub would be good or 8351 for a non sub setup.

    • @lamenamethefirst
      @lamenamethefirst 2 года назад

      For enjoying music, the diminishing returns starts way way sooner. As you go up the price range in studio monitors you pay a lot more for slight increases in performance accuracy but you'll probably find those differences useful when making critical mix decisions. These super expensive products are also mostly bought by studios and really sought after professionals for whom cost is less important than giving their clients the best possible product. You'll never hear the difference when just enjoying a track.

    • @lamenamethefirst
      @lamenamethefirst 2 года назад +1

      I'm also not sure why audiophiles are getting into studio monitors. You're paying for things that just aren't important to the enjoyment of music. And this is coming from an audio professional. The artist's intent isn't what people think it is. You're never going to hear what the mix engineer is hearing at the studio even if you have the same set of speakers. The room is different. And studio monitors are designed to work at different signal levels with balanced connections. They just don't give you the best performance when paired with consumer gear, which is designed to work with lower voltage signals. You'll run the risk of more noise, distortion and other unpleasantries. A "colored" speaker can still be great to listen to.

    • @mohamedahmed1023
      @mohamedahmed1023 2 года назад +3

      @@lamenamethefirst who said anything about the artists intent? Don't ascribe motives to others, especially as to what they're looking for. Powered speakers work just fine with consumer gear. This powered studio monitor vs. passive conversation is so antiquated. A studio monitor can be as colored or uncolored (neutral) as a passive speaker. There is quite a bit of variability in studio monitor sound as evidence by frequency response data for starters. Some can sound warm and others rather clinical. All of these rules of thumb for where passive works and studio monitors works are silly. You can make them work in all settings.

    With the Eve SC307, having the tweeter to the side of the mid is going to cause that change in sound as you move around. Also the "mid" isn't really a dedicated mid, it's a bass/mid so you don't get the clarity you noticed with the other two.

    the sonarworks plugin should b in your monitoring chain NOT in your output chain, unless you assume that everyone in the world has the same room with the same speakers you're working with! I dunno the other speakers but I do own some KH310s and can't quite imagine them sounding boxy!?! Their mid range driver is super sweet sounding and the low end is about as accurate as you can get. Admittedly not flashy or a nice warm bump you get with other speakers but once you adjusted to the incredibly flat response you will appreciate it.

    To use SW you should listen to the comeback of the printed track. I am in the same position and that is what I do to still using SW. Latency is an issue. The other solution less expensive than a Trinnov system is using Merging Technologies Anubi, SW will be “embedded “ on the DSP of the interface that is a monitor control too.

    A lot of focus on the low end which is nice, but what about the top end? You only briefly discussed the Eve tweeter but I was hoping to hear how it compares to the other two, especially since ribbon tweeters have a distinct sound. From what I've heard, the Neumann KH310 tweeter is its biggest flaw as it can sound a bit hard or harsh at high volume, however, those monitors are also said to be very flat sounding until about 5kHz. Don't know much about the Genelecs, but from every review I've seen they get top marks so they're probably worth the money.

      He never tried the Neumann 750 sub. He tried one of the Eve Audio subwoofers instead, but ended up returning it because he got complaints from the neighbors, LOL.
      And he never said how well it integrated with the mains or if it improved the mains response as well as the low end extension and quality, so...this particular video was pretty much inconclusive.
      Ultimately, one of his reasons for wanting new monitors with their own DSP due to his limitations when using Sonarworks ended up being a non-issue.
      I can't say if the Neumann 750 sub will be an improvement for you when combined with the KH310, but it absolutely was worth it when combined with my OG KH120A. If you can find a dealer that will let you demo the 750 sub for a trial period, I would 100% recommend doing it! I'm afraid that once you hear them with the sub you won't be able to go back ;) ...at least if you get it properly set up and calibrated.
