It's so cool seeing Resurrected doing that same thing that the Powerslave: Exhumed remaster did by combining the best of both versions into one definitive version!
That is simply not true. Their "version" of Exhumed is identical to the consoles, which can easily be played with the emulators anyway. They improved nothing in it. It still appears as bland as it was and nothing to do with the PC version. Despite that, they did include the PC version as a separate game in their package "as is" - without even addressing the numerous bugs that the PC version has. Including the famous game-breaking strafe bug, which was independently fixed by a fan, for the OG version. This move alone is all the evidence that they don't like old games: they like making money off people who like old games, but that's about it. Minimum effort, - maximum laziness and bang the nostalgia drum. So far it worked. Modders and hardcore fans do all the real work. Nightdive?! - lazy cashgrabs. Bah.
@HexenStar It's cause the console version is clearly the more interesting of the two? They combined both the PS1 and Saturn versions. The Build Engine PC version is clearly its own thing. Also , no, they put a shit ton of effort into their remasters. Why do you think they were chosen to remaster Quake, Doom, Quake 2, etc.? Literally, the only remaster from them I don't like that I've played is PO'ed, and it's mostly because that game already sucks.
Some of the best memories i have with my older brother were watching him play this game on the 3do. I honestly got a little emotional when I saw this remaster.
I also was quite hyped for this one, as i was a big fan of this game back in the day on the 3DO. Unfortunately, it is not that game. It is a major flop that has certain 3DO game assets shoved into it. Very disappointing. If anything, use the PS1 version of the game: it has double the framerate, but otherwise 100% faithful to the original. (yes it does exist; a prototype but fully functional)

Since Night Dive has already been working with Bethsoft for the Quake and Doom Remasters, I would LOVE for them to remaster the Terminator games. I've heard Gman mention it from time to time, so the other day I watched a longplay of the first hour or so on RUclips and I was blown away by how modern it seemed. I just mention it bc Gman mentioned it again when the molotovs came up, and, well, a guy can dream. But heck yeah I'd play through a ND NOLF remaster in a heartbeat.
Hopefully StudioCanal and/or Skydance would be on board since they own the Terminator IP and they’re who have to sign off on it (like how Nintendo and Microsoft needed approval from MGM and EON to rerelease Goldeneye).
He also did a playthrough of Strife... And look at that not too long after we get Veteran Edition released by, you guessed it, Night Dive! I swear they must have one person watching Ross's channel, one on Civvies, and more.
I think Rebecca Heineman; (who was responsible for the 3DO port of Doom) was the lead programmer for the Windows PC port. I'm pretty sure Rebecca talked about it in a youtube video; that the devs needed someone who had experience with video codecs. The game was originally designed by Studio 3DO for the 3DO console, and the 3DO had that built in ability to stream video clips to various layers and polygon surfaces using its' animation co-processor. A feature that made the 3DO really stand out for the time. One of the more unique features for this game was seeing FMV sequences being displayed in the game engine. It really does date the game from 1994. But the 3DO version always had middling reviews, but still an interesting specimen of a game. I guess the PC version went through a lot of redesign. This is sort of a second chance for a pretty obscure early ' DOOM clone". Combining the 3DO and the PC version together. It is neat.

Talk about a throwback for me. I saw the thumbnail for this video, and it instantly triggered a forgotten memory of playing this on my grandmas Sony vaio desktop back in 96 or 97.
My mom bought me a used 3D0 with a pack of games. Killing Floor is one of the games my mom enjoyed and we played it and beat it when I was just a kid. Looking back on it as an adult now it makes me think of a lovecraft/army of darkness shooter and it still has that charm and nostalgia. Thanks for covering it, I will be picking it up at some point!
Being able to easily play the game would alone justify this, but I'd also wonder what, exactly, could be remastered aside from optimizing the game on modern resolutions and maybe some better lighting/reflections.
I'm one of the 12 people who played this back in the 90's on PC. I was stuck in a small town at my grandmas for the summer, and it was in some bargain bin at walmart or something. I remember it barely played on her computer. Ive forgotten most of it, but I recognize a lot of the characters.
Finding hidden rooms in this game is very cool as well. At least when I was a kid it was because it’s not like you were able to just look up this kind of stuff online. There’s a hidden room in the beginning with your first encounter with the gangsters, a room in the building where there’s a second revolver. I always remember that.
The art and style of this game really comes from a golden age of gaming. I feel sorry for younger generations who won't have gotten to experience games coming in a beautiful, glossy box with a dense, crisp paper manual, with tiny little screenshots on the back.
As a long time Blood fan... Can't say Blood 2 really needs a remaster. Unless they set out to fix the broken parts of the original and restore the stuff that got cut due to lack of time.
Blood 2 is one game that genuinely could use a remake to fix a lot of it. One thing that I can see being a possible issue would be recording new VA, as Gideons actor, Ted D’Arms, passed away in 2011.

I was a huge fan of the 3DO version so I lost it when this was announced. I finished the game yesterday and had an absolute blast. Pure nostalgia, especially with the music. There’s nothing that matches the feel of this game, I love it. For an increased challenge, play the hardest difficulty. In this mode, the final boss spawns immediately and constantly follows and attacks you through the entire game. He can’t be killed by normal means, so he’ll be all over you the entire time. Lastly, Night Dive also remastered PO’ed which is another quirky horror comedy shooter, check it out!
Movies, Games and Videos. I loved that. They phoned me in 1996 to tell me I'd won a VHS copy of a Michael Keaton film called Multiplicity. But they never sent it.
Ah glad I'm not making it up. Think it was on ITV at the weekend. Mid-day. Ah that sucks! My 3DO broke and they got me to send it back. Never heard a thing either haha.
I want Nightdive to do a Kingpin life of crime remaster because that piece of shit they call a remaster that they just released was not worthy whatsoever. Nightdive would give it the love it deserves.
I love these goofy old games with Green Screened cheesy actors put into them. Makes me want to replay Phantasmagoria again. You ever play that? Would love to see a video on it sometime.
So glad I found this, gives me hope for a LIMITED RUN physical edition in the future. Loved this 3D0 game! Despite the very bad game engine, it was original, had great music & sound design and clever use of digital content. The PC “remake” had better level design (as you quoted) but a total lack of the story and ambience the 3D0 version had in spades. Merging the two into a cohesive whole was a brilliant idea. Hopefully some of the music cues will be assigned to their proper locations in a future update patch. (You showcased an instance of a jazz track playing randomly in a canyon… which was an error on their part). The music in this game was GREAT for its day. And made sense as each fit the locations in which they were used. The SEWER ambience was spectacularly creepy, but I think the new remaster removed it ALSO the sewers were very dark in the original game adding to the challenge. Your game footage looked too bright by comparison. Overall, this was an underrated gem for its concept and storytelling. As I mentioned, the original game engine was TERRIBLE, hard to control but not impossible to play. ❤👍🏽
Thanks for shedding light on differences between the 3do and computer versions. I saw an ad for Killing time in 1995, and the screenshots looked way better than the game itself on ANY platform. This remastered version though seems to live up to that hype.
I don't remember a damn thing about this game, but I know I played it at some point because that damn "Time Trapped Isle" song has been randomly popping up in my head ever since.
Damn that new outtro [relatively] got me all nostalgic for Gman! It's so well done, cheers to the animator and music. Time for Nightdive to remaster Dune 2000 lol
This and PO'd are not my thing, but i bought them anyway to support the developers. I've like most everything else they've done so far and want them to keep doing this for more and more old titles.
I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS. I THOUGHT IT WOULD JUST BE A SOURCE PORT WHICH IS GREAT BUT OH MY GOD THEY WENT AND GOT THE ORIGINAL ASSETS. OH MY GOD. THE 90'S IN HD. IT'S BEAUTIFUL.
I love the look of this game. This is the perfect representation of how I felt a 3DO/CD-i game would actually look like when looking at the back of the Game Box. Now I want more of these classics to be remastered. Especially, the ones with FMV/Pre-Rendered elements in them.
As a kid of the 90s i remember playing the Killing time demo in my power mac and then the complete version on my p3/900 laptop but never went further than the Estate, but i loved the atmosphere - horror in liberty and art deco style is incredibly immersing - Lovecraft Docet!
"Cockroaches that shoot fireballs and then skeletons" I now demand a mod that makes the cockroaches shoot skeletons at you. I actually picked up a 3DO on clearance in the 90's for £50 with six games. I actually enjoyed this quite a lot for the atmosphere even if it was quite primitive even by shooter standards back then. I played the hell out of Road Rash too. Definitely got my money's worth.
From what I've seen of this one, you're right about it living up to it's name. This looks like I'd enjoy it on a discount or the like. Great review, as always! IIRC, one of the versions was done by Rebecca Heineman, who really seemed to know the 3DO like the back of her hand.
I only know about this game because my dad had it. Only things I remember is something about Water Clocks, a ghost party at a mansion, and that you could use a flamethrower.
Besides the System Shock 1 remaster they did this is the one i'm most looking forward to. Killing Time is borderline unplayable on modern systems. Also the digitized actors as a way to explain the background plot is bar none one of the most unique things i've seen in any shooter. You could almost consider them as kind of a precursor to audio logs in videogames
1:55 This is more of a technological compromise that had to be made to get the game working on the console at all. The engine was repurposed and extended from one of Studio 3DO's earlier titles, Jurassic Park Interactive. 7:05 same thing; a compromise to get videos working at all(the PC version ran on a BSP based engine very similar to id Tech 1). 7:38 I've read both versions together sold 20k units.
I played this on the 3do once. I was kinda blown away by the fact that the sprites of enemy bodies ROTATES to fit the camera perspective. I don't think I've ever seen a sprite based FPS do that without mods.
@@Dr.W.Krueger wish there was a mod like that for Doom. I tried looking for one but googling "Doom mod with rotating corpse sprites" doesn't work that well
In the game, there's a conversation between the butler and the German guy regarding those ball things in the sewer. They're supposed to be balls of poop that were rolled by sacred scarabs
Just discovered this game, and it reminds me a lot Bioshock, the guns and order that you get them, the ghostly aparitions and the art deco style setting makes me wonder if this game might have been an inspiration for Rapture. Also, i enjoyed demastering the game through the settings, reducing the resolution, disabling the high res and the crosshair. Really nice hidden gem, loved it on the steam deck.
As a HUGE 3DO fanboy, I absolutely love Killing Time, and was one of the very first games I bought for it when I finally bought a 3DO back in December 2007. The framerate on the 3DO version made it almost unplayable, but I still love it. The PC version I thought was trash (other than the "open world"). However, after having played the NightDive version which combines the best of both, I feel it's absolutely amazing. As a purist, give me the 3DO version (despite the HORRIBLE framerate), but damn is the NightDive version awesome.

Just finished the game just now, I liked it! The Duncan boss fight was actually pretty hilarious fight when he chases you everywhere. 😂
I remember this. I had a 3DO. I won it from a British TV show, Movie, Games ans Music (I think).
The 3DO was definitely a thing I suppose haha.
@@cavetendobiggles1841back in the day when you got game reviews every day on teletext!
@@LawrenceNewman-f1z Did you thank them?
I imported the FZ-1 shortly after Japanese launch. Good thing it was a region-free system.
It’s funny how Nightdive has remastered not one, but TWO 90s console/PC FPS games that revolve around the Pharaoh Ramses to a certain extent.
Its so weird this came out now. I have been trying to get the og game running on my little emulator and cant get it working, nice timing haha
No time killed faster than my free time now that this is uploaded
hell yeah
You brought back “shwacked.”
I’m so happy.
7:15 I remember the 3DO having a much darker atmosphere and the character renders we’re actually a lot better than the pc version.
❤👍🏽
I did not know he was colour blind...that came as a bolt from the grey
He has mentioned it in maybe 50 videos of his already.
YES NO ONE LIVES FOREVER!!! I've been waiting for it too man and I haven't even played it previously.
I’ve always loved the visual style for this game and seeing it remastered now works so well.
Also, next month 20th anniversary of HL2 release. Hope, you can do that, Mr Gmanlives.
I just knew a The Mask reference was gonna be done with the tommy gun after seeing Ross's video. XD
Thanks for shedding light on differences between the 3do and computer versions. I saw an ad for Killing time in 1995, and the screenshots looked way better than the game itself on ANY platform. This remastered version though seems to live up to that hype.
He schwacked, THE MAN SCHWACKED
Ryan Hollinger and gman talking about the same old school game on the same day?! Crazy! Happy Halloween!
impressed every time night dive studio's releases anything..
I don't remember a damn thing about this game, but I know I played it at some point because that damn "Time Trapped Isle" song has been randomly popping up in my head ever since.
i just want them to remaster WITCHAVEN or CORRIDOR 7 or even OPERATION BODYCOUNT , but i bet REALMS OF THE HAUNTING would be next.
Nightdive did some great work there with the FMV. Would love to see what they could do with Realms of the Haunting
Nightdive Studios needs to remaster realms of haunting
I never played this in the past and I'm super looking forward to this remaster! It's absolute goofiness to the max!
Now they need to do Realms Of The Haunting!!!
Damn that new outtro [relatively] got me all nostalgic for Gman! It's so well done, cheers to the animator and music.
Time for Nightdive to remaster Dune 2000 lol
NOLF remaster would be absolutely awesome, also the Requiem Avenging Angel would be good too!
The Game Dungeon video on this came up on my recommended the other day. And I guess I know why now.
What's crazy is you and Ryan hollinger uploaded videos on the same game within minutes of each other
Can we have a syphon filter catalog review 👀👀👀👀👀👀😩
Oh man! Always loved Killing Time. Still have an original for PC with original box in my shelf.
"Cockroaches that shoot fireballs and then skeletons"
I now demand a mod that makes the cockroaches shoot skeletons at you.
Every time I see footage of this game I swear it looks like a fever dream that you'd see being played in the background of some movie.
I only know about this game because my dad had it. Only things I remember is something about Water Clocks, a ghost party at a mansion, and that you could use a flamethrower.
This was one of the few titles on the 3do that fascinated me and I always hoped Nightdive would tackle this one day. What a day to say now.
Great video. Nightdive have been killing it.
I will say having them highlight specific doors & switches on the map in yellow really helped.
13:27 "I mean I have had worse."
I believe you. Damn you Jack Daniels. 😂
This and PO'ED were not remasters I ever would've expected, but I'm glad Nightdive showed them a little love
I played this on the 3do once. I was kinda blown away by the fact that the sprites of enemy bodies ROTATES to fit the camera perspective. I don't think I've ever seen a sprite based FPS do that without mods.
Not the only one. Might not even been the first.
@@Dr.W.Krueger wish there was a mod like that for Doom. I tried looking for one but googling "Doom mod with rotating corpse sprites" doesn't work that well
Damn I had a 3DO as a kid. (Way of the Warrior so bad).I wish I would have found this back then. Once we got a PC, it was all Unreal Tournament.
Solid your mom joke this time in Gman Lives, full of confidence and well delivered, 9/10
The gargoyle maids, the floating Anubis heads, and Goddess Tess are my favorite enemies in the game.
Thank you for bringing the shwacked meme back ❤
In the game, there's a conversation between the butler and the German guy regarding those ball things in the sewer.
That Ainsley Harriott insert! 💀 😭
Brother I'm with you on being hopelessly colorblind. I saw that the key you picked up during that section was referred to as "yellow-orange" and shuddered involuntarily
30 views in 1 minute? damn your falling off
