I think the Buddistick guy deserves extra points for getting it tuned without smashing it to pieces.
Good point
That was an amazing display if cunning, technique and just raw talent with the buddistick. Good thing the packtenna didn't need any of that to win.
Wasn't it? He's really got his technique down for sure.
Nice show and fun video Mike! "End-Fed K8MRD Signature Kite Antenna" ... wouldn't have even been fair. 🤣📻⚡🤘🎸
Nice horse race. Me, I spend more time unpacking the three different antoona kits - yeah, I’m weird - than I do setting them up. The loaded verts (two different MFJ clones & an original California[decades old] Pac12) go up quicker but the EFHW/long wire + Zmatch/AH705 seem to work better. And, no, I’ve never asked Ms Strategy (Cindy the Manageress) to time me ;-)
. . . Great vid, again, amigo. 73 de W8IJN.
. . . Missed you yesterday evening doing POTA ;-)
Looking forward to it, I own both of these.
I really like this rapid deployment video, nice!
Glad you enjoy it!
Mike,
This is your opportunity (for another video) to show how to pack a PackTenna and a BuddiStick (at home before you leave) for rapid set up. I see both of those guys doing the same things I do with poorly coiled coax, no ground support stake, wrong band, and other errors. It was a fun video but maybe you should have held the beer until after the set up. Ha!😅
Thanks for the Video!!
You bet!
Enjoyed the video. Finally got you in the log tonight with your late shift activation. I’ve been following/watching since before getting licensed. Keep it up! 73, N5BWD
Hey thanks for the contact! Tonight was the first time I've gotten on 40 SSB in a long time. Glad I did. It was on fire!
Those packtennas are always sold out. Every time I see a Packtenna, I say, I would like to try it, and then I go to their site, Sold Out. I hope they make more soon.
I have two of them, Hee Heee. 😅
Awesome contest ;)
Thanks! 😁
Late to the party here but great job by all!
Good video, now which one performed the best ?
I've not done a head to head comparison but I would suspect the PackTenna would win that too. They are both great antennas though.
Actually I'd rather choose a random wire end fed antenna than the EFHW. While you might want a taller mast for a longer wire you can get more bands. That has been my experience. My Chameleon EFHW is weak on 160 gets 80 40 and 20 but nothing below. Its the encomm3 base.
What a nail-biter! 73!
I'll bet you were sitting on the edge of your seat the whole time haha!
Notice how easy the E-Ink Stick 230 is to see in the sun? Not so with the Pro. Few have mentioned that bonus to the less expensive option.
I don’t have a problem seeing my pro.
@@hamradiotube the difference is there. Especially on camera. Put the two side by side on the sun.
Added advantage of band hopping with the EFHW without having to tune.
Yep. Just change bands and keep going. Love my PackTenna.
Would like to see them compared with an ATAS as well. That´s the one I´ m using.
Shoot, the ATAS you just push a button. That would win hands down.
@@hamradiotube I have to confess that´s why I went with it.
What telescoping mast was the Packtenna hooked to?
The PackTenna 10 meter mast that hasn't been available for a while. You could get a DX Commander 10 meter mast though. Exactly the same thing. www.m0mcx.co.uk/store/products/10mdcx-sota-travel-pole/
@@hamradiotube thank you sir!
@@COUREURSdesBOIS88 Sotabeams 10m mast is the same exact thing. I have both and they are the same.
Hey Mike, a great contest on those antennas. Hope you’re having a blast.

Oh man we had an amazing time!
what is that tripod?
It's the one that comes with the BuddiStick when you pay more for it.
Man if it takes you more than five minutes for either…..
Right?
Haha. Bsp ftw without a doubt. That packtenna wouldn’t stay up secured like that for long. But the lack of Q on an EFHW 😍
Don't be so sure about that. We used the PackTenna for that activation. I'll have to teach you how to use it the next time we're together lol!
@@hamradiotube deal 🤙
Never underestimate the kmurd lean technique .. it works surprisingly well.
Down to the wire... you are a punny guy.
My one a day lol
Obviously, a long wire antenna is going to out perform a compromised vertical antenna using a coil. You should have expected the results. I'm sure you're only doing this for RUclips credit.
Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.
Welcome to my neck of the woods :)
It was beautiful!
Hurry up Guys. Get your Mojo working! Just saying... 😂😂😂👍🙋♂
I know, right?!
Hi from the dry side of Washington
We actually stayed dry the whole trip. Didn't rain once.
I timed my packtenna random wire deployment and it was up in 7 minutes
You should be able to get that to under 5 minutes I would think.
Come on Mike. Too much wind noise. You know better. Get a “dead cat”, “blimp” or whatever you call it for your travel go kit. And use it! Ha!😊
It’s easy to point out the shortcoming of others isn’t it.
Fun setup! 73 NM5SP
What did Packtenna win?
An autographed picture of me.
@@hamradiotube 😆 Awesome and valuable!👍😁
PAC tenna 👍
Always.
Drunk voices on the air are unnecessary. I am for sober broadcasting.
too noisy. gone
Yes, it was windy on the beach. You should hear it before I added an obscene amount of compression and noise reduction.
I have one and a telescopic pole and a spike and I can have the packtenna up less than 5 minutes.
Oh yeah. If the mast hadn't fallen down it would have been done in half the time.
