Carrie said in an interview once that while Vince played his solo, the Holy Spirit took over and she did not even remember singing the rest of the song. Carrie is a believer and her Christian album is awesome.
Carrie sang this DIRECTLY to her Saviour... She's giving praise and worship the way it should be done, exactly how this stirring, hymn should be interpreted... Powerful, inspirational... tears shed each time I hear this... In love with my Lord Peace & Blessings 🙏🏻🙏🏻
As someone who’s seen this performance hundreds of times, it always makes me giggle a little bit when people are so impressed and dumbfounded by the first part…because all I can think is “you ain’t seen nothing yet” 😂
Kathy here - first, the reason she sounds like she is in another world, is because when she sings gospel music, that is where here heart lies, and believes. She is a true believer. And a standing ovation before she was even finished with the performance. Such respect from the Country Music world.
She went from Country to full Gospel here. Every single time I hear this song, no matter what I am going through, I stand up straighter and feel hopeful. Awesome!
I used to work for an insurance company that was controlled by a family. They would have a huge Christmas party for the staff and bring in performers like Faith Hill or Michael Buble. A couple years after I left, the CEOs' father died. How Great Thou Art was his favorite song. They brought Carrie in for the party to sing it as a tribute to him. According to a friend, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when she was done.
Nobody will ever do this song even close to as great as this was done. After all these years of seeing this the first time, I still get emotional every time I watch. I can't imagine being in the audience when this was done. A standing ovation with a minute left in her performance, shows the power that was in that auditorium, that night. I don't want to leave out Vince Gill. He was stellar, but still allowed Carrie to shine.
I have been involved with country music for over seventy five years. It just doesn’t get much better than this. Vince Gill is the absolute best musician you could want in your band. He never over plays or steal focus from anyone. He is the perfect support for any singer or musician on the bandstand. Carrie is equally as talented and is superb in any venue. Together they are almost heavenly.
Oh, I thought it was an awards show, too, and I was gonna agree that "only in Country music".... Cuz, recently, I think it was Thomas Rhett prayed on a Country music award show---I think it was when Kane Brown's drummer got killed---and then Reba was next-up, and she gave strict orders, that they better not cut that out of the show (that it better be broadcast), and they didn't cut it (I guess when an elder statesmen, so to speak, speaks, you better listen). I remember thinking, then, nowhere else would I get the fulfillment of all that is good about life!! Who was it that sang "God and Country Music"? Either George Jones or George Strait---I get them mixed-up, sometimes---that song was right-on!! ❤️
That's the power of God. She has a God given talent. She said she felt the power of God all over her as she was singing this. 🎶 I cry 😢 everytime I hear this along with the chills.
This is an old Gospel song. She has a gospel album. Love that she performed it at the CMA’s but wasn’t sure if you were aware it is Gospel. I listen to this a couple of times a week over and over and I’m in awe EVERY SINGLE TIME! It has never gotten old and it’s probably from 10 plus years ago. I think it was her 1st award for country artist of the year or new artist of the year. I can’t remember but I adore her. She gives God all the glory and she’s not afraid to do it in front of millions. GOD BLESS HER AND TY FOR HER ANGELIC VOICE! ❤❤❤
This brings me tears because you feel that this is a praise song for them, not just another chance to show off their talents. So often artists forget the meaning behind the song, but they don’t. There’s also Softly and Tenderly that Carrie did live honoring a lot of artists that passed away. That one destroyed me beautifully also.
I’ve always felt you can literally see the Spirit move right through Carrie while Vince makes that guitar talk. Never fails to take my breath away; always feels like a privilege to watch. So glad you reacted to this; thank you! Brad Paisley & Carrie ‘Remind Me’ official video!!!!!! Brad on guitar, Carrie’s vocals, & legs up to your neck. How could you go wrong??!😊 Stay safe & love much💖 Cheers!
There are two other verses, also, to this song. One of the most beautiful old hymns ever written. Carrie's performance and Vincent's guitar solo was beautiful!
I watched the live show and had chills and tears were falling down my cheeks. Absolutely stunning performance and it can never be repeated by anyone else. Awesome
My all-time favorite country performance, it always brings tears to my eyes, Carrie is incredible! I love that the late Naomi Judd was right there encouraging her! I also love Carrie's "Jesus Take the Wheel"!
This is one of her most amazing performances for sure, and she was very young and fresh from American Idol when it happened. Right before this Vince had done a great cover of Carries' "Jesus Take The Wheel", you should react to that video, it was awesome. Carrie has a recent live vid from the ACM's a year ago, called, "My Savior" and she duets with CeCe Wynan's, who is a major Gospel singer in the States. It will blow you away, much like this one does. It adds all of her training and growth over the years, and the maturity she's gained, and I think I was in tears at least twice through that performance while shivering through the whole thing. And CeCe Wynans is an amazing gospel vocalist. You should definitely check that one out. Love your reactions Craig, they are always a pleasure! ❤
Vince Gill is another guitar player that is respected by his peers, as one of the best. There are RUclips channels where you can find get-togethers at his home. He has one room that is full of guitars.
Carrie is a devout Christian. She DID feel every word. She believes every word and she’s praising God with her God given voice. She took everyone to church with this performance!!
Live and an audience full of talented performers who obviously truly appreciated the sheer beauty of this! I remember watching Carrie on American Idol and we just knew that she was special. This gave me goosebumps and a slight tear because it was so beautiful and flawless.
Great reaction. Love to see people hear that for the first time. I think we can say with confidence she may be the greatest female singer on the planet.
I remember this performance on TV. Just walking around the living room doing stuff with the show on. And then I froze and watched when it started to happen. Never get tired of watching this musical moment of greatness.
I've watched this performance at least a dozen times and I still get chills! The spirit is moving through her, Vince and the song!!! Love it! Thanks for reacting!
I listen to this several times a month and it still brings chills and tears to my eyes. I believe what makes it special is Carrie has a deep faith and so does Vince. Vince is known not only as a wonderful singer but a fantastic guitar player. Both of them are fro my home state of Oklahoma.
I saw this live when it was played on Good Friday years ago and have seen it countless times since. Without a doubt the most moving performance I have ever seen. It still has the power to uplift me and bring me to tears all of these views later. Please catch her performances of her gospel album, My Savior that she performed live at the Opry on Easter Sunday. Well worth watching. Very moving performances including her incredible duet with CeeCee Wynan.
This video is the shorter version. The original has Vince doing a longer guitar solo and he steps up on the part that got cut out. But the great thing is they didn't cut out any of Carrie's performance. What an awesome performance!
Craig, I’m so thrilled you were able to react to this awesome live performance of this amazing song. I have no idea how many times I’ve watched this video. I do remember the first time I watched it, I could feel and see when the Holy Spirit entered Carrie’s body. The Holy Spirit was present during that performance. The people in the audience were standing up long before she finished the song. Vince Gill does really well with anyone he duets with. He has awesome harmony. I love that he did a guitar solo, which was beautiful. This song is at the top of my list as well! Please check out her song “Champion” featuring Ludacris. Please do the original video and not the live performance. This song is at the top of my list for pure inspiration! I’m confident that you’ll love it! Carrie belts out some notes in that song as well. LadyGator1983🐊🐊🐊
She is amazing! Her other performance on the ACM awards with cecee wynans is on this level as well. Her my savior hymns. I have never heard her sound off key etc.. she is the epitome of a great Artist
Oh, man.... Anybody who dares to step up to the plate, with a Wynans (either one), better be armed---I think Carrie might be the only one whose arsenal comes even close to a Wynans'!!
Every time I watch it I think the other performers in the audience are thinking "well ladies its official, we're playing for second ". I place this in the top 10 ever performed.
You are absolutely right about never tiring of this song. I know I have heard it well over 100 times (the live version here) and I get the same chills as the first time.
When I first her her sing this, I got teary eyed. I played it for my cousin and got goosebumps. If it doesn't make you teary eyed or get goosebumps, something is wrong
I had the privilege of being in the audience for this performance. I was on my feet as was the whole audience. What a awesome performance. Vince let Carrie go on this song,
I love listening to gospel music! Carrie Underwood has a beautiful voice to sing gospel songs. This is DEFINITELY a song that I have listened to quite a few times. Thank you for reacting to this song!! I appreciate what you say about each singer you react to.
I think part of what makes this, so special, to me, is that I know what a good, God-fearin', humble girl Carrie, is. When you hear someone sing, like this, and know how true their heart, is---she believes every word, of this song---you know you have heard something, even more, extraordinarily special. So glad you were moved, too.
Craig, your reaction to this was 'spot on', I adore your choices. Am so glad you have 'taken a liking' to country music, you have a real appreciation for it and I'm so glad! Love, LOVE your reactions. From an old country girl, please keep it up and I'll keep watching!!
So glad you got to experience this and you shared it with us. This has always been my favorite version of this song - they are both amazing in their own rights, and both are so humble and real. It brings me to tears after at least 60 viewings.
Woo wee.. Carrie & Vince give me Goose Bumps when they sing this! I remember watching this ‘Live’ on TV All the people in The Grand Ole Opry are on their feet.
I agree 💯 with you and the solo by Vince Gill was also brilliant!! But your reactions and comments on Carrie Underwood singing "How Great Thou Art""!!!😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My daughter summed up her performance of this song. "She's singing this song as if it were her first day in Heaven!"
Amen
Beautiful !!
That's beautiful ❤️ and Amen
How absolutely beautiful ❤️
My very favorite comment!
Carrie said in an interview once that while Vince played his solo, the Holy Spirit took over and she did not even remember singing the rest of the song. Carrie is a believer and her Christian album is awesome.
I love your response and comments, wonderful, awesome ❤❤❤❤
Anyone with a soul was touched by that. Amazing
Carrie sang this DIRECTLY to her Saviour... She's giving praise and worship the way it should be done, exactly how this stirring, hymn should be interpreted... Powerful, inspirational... tears shed each time I hear this... In love with my Lord
Peace & Blessings 🙏🏻🙏🏻
As someone who’s seen this performance hundreds of times, it always makes me giggle a little bit when people are so impressed and dumbfounded by the first part…because all I can think is “you ain’t seen nothing yet” 😂
Amen!
Same here... the ending is unearthly...
That’s the same thing I said…just wait !
Totally agree. I can't wait for it.
It’s absolutely phenomenal. Full stop.
Carrie doesn’t just sing this song she feels every word!!!!!
Carrie is a believer in Jesus and this is not just singing, it's a woman singing praises and worshipping her Savior!
Kathy here - first, the reason she sounds like she is in another world, is because when she sings gospel music, that is where here heart lies, and believes. She is a true believer. And a standing ovation before she was even finished with the performance. Such respect from the Country Music world.
You had the proper reaction. When she sings THIS song, the whole world feels it.
She went from Country to full Gospel here.
Every single time I hear this song, no matter what I am going through, I stand up straighter and feel hopeful. Awesome!

Aww, that's SO sweet!!
These 2 make us fellow Okies proud!
I have waited sooooo long for you to get around to this one! She took everyone to church! Stunning performance!
I think she took everybody to heaven!
I’ve listened to Carrie sing this probably a hundred times and I still get goosebumps every time! She is truly singing this to the Lord.
Nobody will ever do this song even close to as great as this was done. After all these years of seeing this the first time, I still get emotional every time I watch. He is the perfect support for any singer or musician on the bandstand.
Carrie is equally as talented and is superb in any venue.
Together they are almost heavenly.
She had them on their feet, didn’t she?!?! I watch this over and over. Thanks for your reaction. ❤️
Absolutely Carrie Underwood's greatest performance ever. She captivated that crowd and moved to them to thier feet
This is why Carrie won American Idol. She is flawless live and not many can do that. Love her.
Love this video. Only in a country music awards show would this be sung.
This was actually not at an Award Show, it was at the ACM's Girl's Night Out: Superstar Women of Country celebration in 2011. 🙂
Oh, I thought it was an awards show, too, and I was gonna agree that "only in Country music".... Carrie loves Jesus and that was her tribute to HIM❤I love HIM, too! I pray all of you do because we see HIM soon❤
I end up crying every time I watch this video. It was my mother's favorite hymn and NO ONE has ever done it better than Carrie....
This is an old Gospel song. She has a gospel album. Love that she performed it at the CMA’s but wasn’t sure if you were aware it is Gospel. There’s also Softly and Tenderly that Carrie did live honoring a lot of artists that passed away. That one destroyed me beautifully also.
I’m not familiar with the many recordings of this hymn but I think Ms. Underwood just blew the roof off the building while speaking directly with God❤
No one can ever create a performance like this again, Carrie has an incredible voice and she sounds great live and Vince is a legend
How could you go wrong??!😊

Carrie's performance and Vincent's guitar solo was beautiful!
I watched the live show and had chills and tears were falling down my cheeks. Absolutely stunning performance and it can never be repeated by anyone else. Awesome
To this day, that is literally the best I’ve ever heard that song be sang!! She is phenomenal
My all-time favorite country performance, it always brings tears to my eyes, Carrie is incredible! I love that the late Naomi Judd was right there encouraging her! I also love Carrie's "Jesus Take the Wheel"!
I love this performance Vince just hung back because of how awesome she was doing and she was feeling it
Yes, God sent an actual angel to this performance.
I’m not much of a religious person but this song when I hear it gives me goosebumps. I love this song.
I’ve heard her sing it a thousand times and cry every single time. What a gift.

The song itself is so beautiful, the way Carrie sang it was just beautiful and Vince.
RIP sweet naomi, rewatching this was so heaven sent🙏more vince( look at us, one more last chance, trying to get over you )🤠🥰
Vince Gill is another guitar player that is respected by his peers, as one of the best. There are RUclips channels where you can find get-togethers at his home. He has one room that is full of guitars.
Awesome Vince’s backup singing is great wouldn’t have the same impact without him . Both are awesome together it’s special !

Great reaction. Love to see people hear that for the first time. I think we can say with confidence she may be the greatest female singer on the planet.
I love the way Vince can make the guitar sing
Too bad this version cuts the guitar solo short. It's a beautiful thing. 😎
Watching this was an experience you would never forget. It imprinted my soul. Tears, Goosebumps, ....
She amazes me!
She and Vince took us on a journey. It moves me everytime I listen to it.❤🙏Amen
Carrie is up there with the best vocalists America has ever produced. Shes amazing and one of a kind
I am with you on this one. I honestly didn't know Carrie had this in her --- World Class.
She never wavered off pitch all the time she was holding those notes! What a beautiful performance! Great reaction!!!
I remember this performance on TV. Just walking around the living room doing stuff with the show on. And then I froze and watched when it started to happen. Never get tired of watching this musical moment of greatness.
Her first gospel album won a Grammy this year.
One of my favorite performances by Carrie ❤️ This was sang at my father's funeral. One of my favorite gospel songs 💖🦋
Proud that such a talent is from the heartland of America, and that she is such a GREAT lady, personally. What a talent!
I've watched this performance at least a dozen times and I still get chills! The spirit is moving through her, Vince and the song!!! Love it! Thanks for reacting!

100%. Absolute goosebumps and a few tears even...
Great reaction, young lady has pipes, love to hear her like this.
This is my favorite performance ever of this song. No matter how many times I watch this I get goosebumps.
Magnificent! The spirit was in her for sure! Carrie was singing to him!
her voice and vince guitar strokin' strings are in an another atmorsphere...like in the space
I love your reactions because you just react and show your own emotions without stopping during the songs. Once in the middle is perfect.
This video is the shorter version. The original has Vince doing a longer guitar solo and he steps up on the part that got cut out. But the great thing is they didn't cut out any of Carrie's performance. What an awesome performance!
I’ve heard this performance many times and I cry every time. It is phenomenal
Jennifer Nettles at the end mouthing 'What a voice'. Incredible performance.

Hi, LadyGator!! 🙋 Always nice to see you come around!!
I think around 200 times maybe more. No one can beat her to this. Sings it so beautifully..
I had this played at my husband's funeral. ❤ He loved me singing it to him when he was ill. I agree with you cold chills.
I played this for my friend as he lay dying in the hospital, knowing hearing is one of the last senses to leave.
I'm loving your reactions and comments to Vince Gill and Carrie Underwood singing How Great Thou Art!!❤❤❤❤
…like you said- full body chills ❤️
You need to watch her at the Grammys singing come home. It’s amazing❤️
My favorite song ever. It has to be belted like Carrie did. Just beautiful!
Every time I watch it I think the other performers in the audience are thinking "well ladies its official, we're playing for second ". I place this in the top 10 ever performed.
You are absolutely right about never tiring of this song. I know I have heard it well over 100 times (the live version here) and I get the same chills as the first time.
I've listened to this rendition several times and I always cry. Absolutely beautiful.
Vince let Carrie go on this song,
I shed a tear, every single time I watch this video....can't help it.
Her voice is a gift from God! In concert she sings ‘Jesus take the Wheel’ and goes right into ‘How Great Thou Art’ - it’s absolutely beautiful 💜💜
Wow never listened to her before she has a powerful voice
Carrie never lets you down no matter what she’s singing.
i'm sitting here crying and just stunned.. WOW.. just WOW
I love listening to gospel music! Carrie Underwood has a beautiful voice to sing gospel songs. This is DEFINITELY a song that I have listened to quite a few times.
Thank you for reacting to this song!! I appreciate what you say about each singer you react to.
Such a beautiful performance by these two great artists.
Absolutely loved your reaction. Yes, the goosebumps were multiplying for sure. That's the best version I've ever heard.
This one I really really love. Awesome. God bless her and Vince Gill. Together they're heaven.
Vince is a great down to earth guy ! I've been blessed to have seen heard most of them at concerts working security and stage! Great memories !
Those who react like this have beautiful souls. You felt the spirit like she did when she sang. God bless you
Craig, your reaction to this was 'spot on', I adore your choices. Am so glad you have 'taken a liking' to country music, you have a real appreciation for it and I'm so glad! Love, LOVE your reactions. From an old country girl, please keep it up and I'll keep watching!!
I have played this many times and every time it blows me away. I have wept like a baby listening to this.
It don't get any better than that!!!
love the song.Oh love her even more.GOD bless you Carrie!!!.
So glad you got to experience this and you shared it with us. This has always been my favorite version of this song - they are both amazing in their own rights, and both are so humble and real. It brings me to tears after at least 60 viewings.
Tears&chills everytime🙏🏻
Woo wee.. Carrie & Vince give me Goose Bumps when they sing this!
I remember watching this ‘Live’ on TV
All the people in The Grand Ole Opry are on their feet.
I just wanna mention how vince made his guitar sing as well. His chords sung the words.
I agree 💯 with you and the solo by Vince Gill was also brilliant!! But your reactions and comments on Carrie Underwood singing "How Great Thou Art""!!!😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
