Excited to dive into this new Flagellant! He was a top 3 favorite character of mine in the first game, can’t lie I miss his whole bleeding aesthetic and kit but still excited to learn him. Thanks so much for the video! Always a huge help, can’t wait for the next guides. 🙌🏻

18:00 found out that jester virtuoso can be pretty good with flag, 100% stress resist can help wery safetly use his skills. and of course jester generate tokens
In one run, I got Flagellant randomly into my team because I lost a character in a boss fight. I didn't knew about the ''Death Boss'' so I got to a hero shrine, what a bad idea that was.... After the hero shrine I was the resistance thing and I was basically done with it but then HE shows up and just ends my run hahaha
I already love new Flag. Without him my first 1.0 Run would've ended in the first Region because the game decided to give the enemies 100% Crit for 2 battles. Flag healed everyone and Vestal healed Flag.
I got back into DD2 recently, and tried flag for the first time. Wasn’t really thinking of team comp, just fun, ended up with orphan runaway, warlock occ, wanderer flag, and poet leper. I realized very quickly that my two damage dealers had very little health and my tank had very little damage. Then I started figuring flag out and was surprised how well the team was doing! The double tank was working really well! Occ’s abyssal too, and Bonnie was putting firefly and smokescreen to work!
Combat got moved from stats based buffs/debuffs from the first game (i.e. -25% acc or +10% prot) to a token based buff debuff system (i.e. you get a token of +50% damage which lets you attack once for that bonus, or one token of +50% prot which lets you tank one hit for half damage). I think its a much more clear and intuitive system and positive and negative tokens can stack on eachother. Instances where conflicting tokens get applied at the same time (like 1 strength token of +50% damage and 1 weak token for -50% damage) will cancel eachother out.
The another unique trinket for him really plays well into exanimate as any heal that gets him off death's door gets him to full so in critical situations he doesn't have to risk well... dying
When I first saw that he had only one shrine encounter i was kinda disappointed, but now that I know that he ALSO gets a similar "nightmare" mechanic to shieldbreaker where the boss can show up at any point makes that decision more understandable
@@TheGielnik i meant actual combat encounters. The other heroes get 2 unique battles and 3 narrations, while flagellant only gets one combat encounter and 4 narrations
Audrey and Damian are my goats for my first run so far they are the only survivors of a cultist battle that went really bad 😭 They had to drown their sorrows that night
If you ever consider re-doing your character guides please discuss toxic and what its good for/when to use it/how to get it. I realize you are pumping these out like mad and some stuff is going to get missed. Only guide i haven't come away from so far with a good grasp on how to play the character, keep up the good work.
I've been running him with man at arms and have been really enjoying the combo. The combination of Flag's self-heal buffing the MaA (who is set to reposte) and then the MaA removing the stress with bolster is great, and hard to break through for most enemies. Plus deathless can heal MaA in a pinch.
I don't remember the name of the trinket but one run i had was Scourge Flagellant having (+2 damage to attacker) then having him go toxic and spamming More MORE He carried the entire run, Librarian, General and Seething Sigh blew themselves up trying to kill him
Honestly scourge flagellant and alchemist plague doctor absolutely saved me at the act 2 boss thanks to sepis and cause of death and how NEITHER OF THEM WOULD DIE AND PD GETTING RESOLUTE EVERY STRESS CHECK. Holy fuck i popped off so hard when i killed my resentment.
The "Sickening Silence" trinket is amazing for him, using "more!, MORE!" you can make enemies get some serious blight (6 per hit on flagellant). The only downside is that you get a random sickness
Interesting note, maniac allowd flag to be more effective in rank 3, at the cost of being unable to use more! If you already have MaA for tanking, flag can make an excellent healer :) substituting more more for weaken

Flagellant is so fun in late game, with flapjacks and with a ton of hp with trinkets, iirc he had 125 hp going into the mountain, he died but dismas carried as usual lol. He died on his first death's door sadly, he was healing 54 hp with sepsis.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT the flagellant is so broken that I just managed to kill the final boss by just dicking it with flails and blights. And not to meme or anything, it was simply easier to just tank, heal and overwhelm with damage with damian than usong the final boss gimmicks. Once you get there you'll realize how INSANE that is. We're talking of THOUSANDS OF DAMAGE, both tanked and heales, all by the flagellant alone. The rest of the party was just there to hold the necessary ranks and they literally got kep alive by the flagellant too.
I don't see why would you want to make him toxic before the mountain region. Good relationships are WAY more important than a few additional blight points here and there.

I don't use cuppa or kutchen knives on flagellant cause it can benefit any team member, but goblet and that blight duration trinket turns him into a Bligh lord
If you're going to push Flagellant to Toxic deliberately, how do you handle the -2 affinity pips it inflicts to the rest of the team? Do you just accept it'll be dump-statted to 0, or do you spend resources to try and keep it up?
I must have missed it but I cant seem to find where but what does toxic even do? I think this is the most important details that isn't really covered too well in this video

Really feels like he's held together in a lot of cases by More More which is a genuinely amazing move. I like some of his stuff but a lot of his kit just feels weird/bad. Maybe that's just me with little experience so far, but it'd be nice if some moves got changed to be less niche in particular.
sound veeery gimmick for a game where the basic strategy is basically focusing a single enemy each turn to avoid getting hit as much as possible his trinkets also sounds gimmick, unless they changed the way you obtain trinkets, you just can't count on obtaining anything relevant in your runs
It was sort of explained in the article he came with, but if you missed that then here’s the basics Flagellant cannot meltdown or become resolute, only getting the stress reaction Toxic. It’s similar to a meltdown but not as deadly, bringing him to a low enough health to use his more powerful moves that require he’s under a threshold of health. On top of this, it resets all of his skill cooldowns (and maybe total uses but I’m not sure) and gives him a buff that makes his skills do more blight. Other than that, I’m not sure if there are any other differences to a regular meltdown

so one thing i dont understand about him is that you want him to go toxic but then everyone hates him and it seems you get locked into using random skills when that happens, is there a way to avoid that ?
Happened to me with hellion and runaway, from what I understand they increased the unlock cost from 4 to 8, so if you had less than 8 candles in a character (for me it was only the 4 to originally unlock them) you needed to pay the added amount to unlock them again
Sepsis changes drastically depending on the path. I assume you are playing Exanimate since that sepsis SETS the HP to 45% rather than heal 45% Scourge doesn't even heal Maniac and Wanderer heals a lot

I just a Hellion(Carcass), HW (YH), Occu(Ritualist), Jester(Virtuoso). Got mess up already from the start. Hellion is up front. Damn. Hel and HW got tag but I eventually killed the boss. Good thing thr corspe of HW is still there, got deathblow immediately by Occu. Btw Burning Star tends to ignore block. Don't know it's a bug, i did it multiple times
"If played right" is such a universal constant that it's not worth talking about imo. Anyone is good if played right, with the right trinkets, paths, teammates etc

I'm going to buy this tonight & finally learn what the implications of these tokens mean. They've been going over my head for 1.5 years.

Once you beat the Death she gives you a broken trinket, it heals 100% hp every time your character recovers from death's door. Maa rules babyyyyy
Why didn't you talk about Maniac's Punish when Mastered always giving combo? It makes Flag so good in so many teams!
How to Flag (Wanderer edition):
1) hurt yourself
2) Sepsis
3) repeat

Gotta be selective with toxic. Maybe once per boss fight until the mountain, then get it 3 times to max it out if need to.
