I tried this and mine came out as a rhombus and the yarn on the sides came falling through while working it. I guess I hadn't locked them in correctly. I totally didn't know how to make it beautiful.... I will have to crochet along with the video I suppose but would like to know how to handle those pesky ends.

You do an envelope border for the sides like you do for mosaic crochet

Beautiful - but definitely NOT intuitive....also, how do you weave in or bury ALL those darn ends?!?!?!?! tfs!
I was suggest just using a self striping or hombre for the background. That way you don’t have to cut all those ends on each row
