- The time has come for some custard!
This is the first performance mod that I have done to my Ford Focus RS MK3 and it is the induction kit from Mountune - with awesome red silicone hoses!
This seems like a good logical first step in adding some extra power to my Ford Focus RS and the Mountune kit is not only excellent quality but also looks great and is Ford approved so will not affect the vehicle base warranty!
I went with the red hoses because I think they really stand out and pop in the RS engine bay and as you will see or may already know, I have several Boomba racing items installed in the RS engine bay already and they are red so I have a bit of a red engine bay theme going!
I show the process of removing the stock intake and then how to install the new Mountune intake, starting with the K&N high flow air filter and then the Mountune crossover with Samco silicone hoses.
The intstallation didn't take too long and wasn't too difficult and the sounds are now extra loud with a super cool whoosh!
Performance will improve slightly and will form part of future power mods - the Mountune/K&N air filter has an extra opening at the side to allow for an extra feed of air and larger surface area for more potential air to pass through to the engine!

Great video Adam, love the fact that you show every single step to fitting every mod you do. I have noticed this video is doing incredibly well, keep up the great work! 👍
Cheers mate, vid came out well indeed :)
Excellent video Adam. Very useful for anyone attempting this upgrade!
Cheers Michael!
Nice, neat tutorial man! I’m hanging onto my Fiesta ST for a while yet but when I do eventually make the jump to the RS I’ll no doubt have a good backlog to go through. Your videos really help explain things clearly and have certainly helped me build my confidence with messing about with these things.
Another great video from you Adam, and happy new year to you!!
Thanks Andrew, happy new year to you too :)
Looking very stylish under the bonnet now, Adam,,, nice choice of the red theme,,
Cheers John, yea I saw the red hoses and loved the look so went for the red theme :)
Hey Adam, always good to see a video from you. This is another excellent how to video. I would say come and fit mine but I went for the full one from the turbo. Maybe in preparation for more power? Mountune map next?? :)
Cheers mate :) I do plan on getting the other part of the crossover at some point but don't need it just yet so the funds are being directed elsewhere for now ;) The map will come at some point, just got a few things to clear up first
Perfect first mod. Who doesn't like intake noise? Great easy follow video. How does it compare when driving? Can we get a few drive by and in car clips in a future vid please?
Lovely job
Thanks Neil!
Great video Adam! On the path to MR400!
One day maybe lol Cheers Tom :)
Great video 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
Excellent 💪🏼
Thanks!
I do love how technical you describe components. Only from norn iron do we have a thingy me bob and a doofer dinkle under a bonnet. :)
I've learned a lot from installing these wee jobbys over the years lol
Good video 👍
Thanks 👍
Hiya Adam I love your install video! is this the same induction kit for focus st mk3 or do they do a separate one? I’ve added this to my car mods folder 👌😏😎
❤️❤️
Great video. Hopefully it will be similar to fitting on my mk3 focus ST
Should be similar yea
@AdamRainey did you notice much difference to the sound?
Good to see someone tastefully modifying a nice fast ford- so many people overdo it 😩
Cheers Luke 😊
Great video but no before or after? Also can you make a review video on it. Feel, response, sound, etc?
Great video as always mate! Loving the rs content! This induction kit looks almost identical the ST one I got! Would you recommend taking off the bonnet sound dettoning material on a focus also? Did you notice any engine sound gains from it?
Cheers Ryan 😊 Yea i reccomend taking the sound deadening off any car, you should defo hear more induction sound!
Hey Adam......nice man!!! Still waiting for you to drop off your keys so I can borrow your car for the weekend......lol.
Cheers Gary, Erm not sure where I put the keys lol
Ok so now I have purchased the m380 kit from mountune but obviously I can’t yet use the mtune unit as the car is still in warranty when you took ur car to Ford for the fpm375 did you pay the full price or just for the calibration as you have already fitted the hardware yourself?
Great video. What’s your expected gains
with a mod like this?
Probably pointless talking in terms of horses but slightly improved throttle response and a noticeable gain in sound combined with being necessary for future upgrades. Oh and looks great 👌
Thanks for the video! Where can I purchase the exact kit ?
Am looking to get the FPM375 upgrade later this year. I am intending to include the sound suppression chamber as well. I dont see you have had the tune upgrade as well as the ssc. Do you get any annoying turbo whistle? Or indeed a q to those who have FPM375 upgrades without the ssc? Or is it just a matter of taste as to what noise is ok and what is a bit too much? cheers
Right so my findings are interesting. Before I did the induction kit, i just removed the sound deadening and had a standard k&n filter. When I removed the deadening I got more induction noise coming through but also I could clearly hear the whistle noise from air passing over the resonator on the turbo housing that the SSC is designed to fix. Oddly though, when I installed the Mountune induction kit, the whistle is not quite as loud - I still hear it tho and I have the SSC waiting to be installed. I also have the recirc valve here and once I have those installed I will also be getting a stage 1 tune. So long story short, I feel the need the SSC!
hey mate you dont happen to know the bolt you use at the end between the plastic gromet i lost mine :(
it’s just crazy how much money we pay for these bits & pieces ! (£330 on the mountune website plus p&p) probably produced for no more than £50. Anyway, enough negativity .....great informative video !
Cheers mate :) I know Mountune are a little pricey, definitely paying a premium for the name
Adam Rainey I’ve been pricing up induction kits for the rs & any branded item is over £300, Airtec is not far off mountune pricing
I’ve not got myself an rs as yet, I’m a fussy bugger ! , I was looking for an already modded 375 example, but from what I’ve read the dream science hand held imap gizmo could be the way to go on a standard car, what are your thoughts on this ?
I would say it depends on the age of the car you are looking at. If out of warranty then ive heard dreamscience gets good results without much effort, if inside of warranty then I would stick to the mountune fpm375
Hey Adam, I just installed my mountune intake, but it doesn't seem all that loud. Does removing the hood sound deadening material make that much of a difference?
You will hear a huge difference if you remove the sound deadening!
@@AdamRainey I will try it tomorrow, thanks for the response!
No probs mate, enjoy!
Hi there.
I'm looking to install this very same MOD in my RS. would just like to know if it is 100% needed to remove sound damping or is a optional thing? Also does it effect warranty i know montune says it doesn't but always good to get 2nd opinion?
Great videos I love seeing them.
I’ve done mine and didn’t remove the sound damping. No problems closing the hood
@@charlesonuoha5504 yeah I put it in, and drove with cover and without, it makes quite a big difference
Kieren Van Der Haar You mean it sounds a lot louder?
Gret fokin vidio lad
cheers mate :)
Smart looking engine bay! The part of the cross over a think you called it looks great! Not to mention useful 😅 good boy using Mountune. Catback to match next is it?
Cheers Darryl 😁 Exhaust will happen just maybe not yet...
Cheers Darryl 😁 Exhaust will happen just maybe not yet...
Is that your first tuning mod pal ? . I started with the 375 kit . Now running the m400 . It’s a beast
Yea it is. M400 is the dream :)
Adam Rainey can’t stop once you start
Oh I know, as does my wallet lol :O
I'm also running 375. Does the m400 add as much as I'm hearing? Nice video Adam.
Mark Graves yes pal . Couldn’t believe the difference. A massive step up again . From the 375 .
Anyway you could share the link for this purchase. Looks great! Thanks

i wonder what the new Focus RS will look like? i hope its nothing like the new ST a downgrade in style for me as in the exterior, the inside is good though. i hope it wont follow that trend
It will be something like it but better of course. We won't kno for sure for a good while yet
2018 was the final production year of rs
@@rehenes3844 yes, im well aware of that hence my question, i wonder what it will look like in 2020 :)
Is there any noticeable power difference? I heard these are not worth it.
If you expect to feel a noticeable power difference from an induction kit, car modding is probably not for you. The noticeable power gains come when you couple a high flow intake with a map
Would this fail an emissions inspection at the DMV?
no
Do you need accessport after that upgrade?
Hi Brion, no you don't. You only need an access port if you are manually loading a map
If i was uni would take off the air box for better sound and performance
Probably reduced performance from heat soak
Where you from in NI?
From Ballymoney/Coleraine/Portrush but currently live in Belfast
@adam rainey from aghadowey myself🌎
And keep off engine cover
I'm toying with this idea for the future
Adam Rainey cool
