Brother seriously, I'm no mechanic i know nothing about cars in this way, And mine started having problems yesterday on my e60, I checked and the cable was snapped in half, Took me 4 hours to put it back together but it was so worth it thanks!!!

Thank you for this video. That's exactly my problem! I only have 70k miles on my 2009, but the wire must have broken because I use DS all the time around town. Makes the car have great acceleration. Finding your fix has saved me a ton of money to have the problem diagnosed. I am more knowledgeable when taking it to a mechanic.

I just did this fix. One wire was broken and the copper of all the other wires were exposed. Soldered and applied electrical tape to them all! Thank you!

Shifter locked in park? Check the solenoid arm and make sure it's linked on the pin. Hopefully it saves you the hours I wasted trying to figure it out when it popped off moving shit around. If you get an error saying make sure the car is in park when u turn it off, there is a tab located adjacent to the pin connecting to the solenoid. Check that too. All in all this DIY works if your wires are split and these were the only issues I came across. Other than that, very simple and easy fix for alot of gain!! Went for a beamer cruise hauling ass 1-6 on the backroads afterwards.
I have a 328i one day out of blue I lost my DS and mechanical gears and I love my DS I’m confident it too is the wiring and I’m going to get it fixed myself thanks to you thank you so much

Yup just happened to me on my way to work, My car was in M/S mode and it automatically jumped into D mode even though the shifter was moved over to the M/S Mode. Thank you for this video!!!!

Just fixed mine , except it started with a broken purple wire and upon further examination there was multiple that was about to fall off. I bit the bullet took my time did all 5 broke wires and now I have no issues!!! Thanks !

I forgot how much I missed mine and what a diff car it is when it’s in sport. Been having to use the paddle shifters for the last year and a half. Dude thank you!! Took me about 2.5. I thought it would be done pretty quick until I got in and found THREE severed wires and two others that were almost severed. Soldered and shrink wrapped every one and it’s like letting Mona Lisa off her leash 🥹🥹🥹❤️

My 2011 128i E82 I had to unbolt the entire center console as the Steptronic bolts were under the thing, but the process was exactly the same otherwise. I was able to lift the console, access the screws to release the wiring harness, removed the tape and found a Grey and a Blue wire broken, patched, taped, routed them nicely and it's all working. Thank you!

I had 1 broken wire.
I put it together and still nothing.
I had to reconnect the connections on the shifter boot trim. And Boom! Sports mode engaged. This happened on my 08 E82.
Oh wow. Thats good! Maybe just a faulty connection in the trim. But it happy to hear it worked out

Add me to the list of previously DS-neutered recoveries thanks to your video! What a stupid design. I had a similar issue in the trunk a couple years ago where a tiny wire broke due to stress. RUclips saved me money that time too!

Have you mapped the gearbox with xHP flash? I think my gear selector on the cluster looks different I get D1, D2 etc S1,S2 instead of DS

It worked but I have the gear light with an exclamation sign in the middle but there’s no codes.

Hi it sorted out my sport mode thanks for this but now every time I turn off the engine I get the gearbox malfunction indicator (like an orange gear with explanation mark) gong. And it won’t let me take the key out first time, push key again and that come up and key comes out. Think it just needs clearing on computer??
I'd say just clearing on the PC. But I'd also check to see if any codes pop up.
What do you do without a sauter tool
I have the same triangle and it won’t go into sport it’s a 06 325xi. I hope it’s the same issue. But what is the triangle with the !
The triangle is a warning light. Not sure what its warning me about. In my case it may be because I'm catless or because I no longer have adaptive headlights. I've had the triangle in my dash for a while. And long as its not a service engine or half engine light im happy haha.

Yo anyone in WA able to help with spark plug and or coil pack misfire or running rough.
My Toyota prado 150 when shifted to sports mode does not engage. Still D on the dashboard but in the shifter the light is on S. In other words the sports mode is not functioning. What could be the problem. Pls help and more power to your video. Thank you

I got this problem with my e46. Wiring looks ok I got no sports mode and no manual mode either. But the car is drivable. Do have any other ideas. That can help me solve this.
Same here. Someone told me it is the same problem with the broken wires but I can't find an E46 specific video.
CANT MOVE GEAR OUT OF PARK? Tip: make sure all connections and the hook that grabs the gear is in place i made the mistake to NOT make sure everything was plugged in i was stuck in park.
I also didnt reinstall the black shield that you have to remove because i didnt see the reason too but if you need more help ask away.
Wow, stuck in park. U must have been confused as anything, I can only imagine haha. And yeah. I just put the black cover on bc it was easy and just felt like throwing it back on.

Yo quick question , so basically I’m looking into buying a e92 335i but the paddle shifters don’t seem to work what do you think the problem could be ? Everything else about the car is mint.. it wasn’t starting recently for a while but the shop said they changed the fuse and it runs good now. I tried looking on forums and RUclips but I cant seem to find answers on how to fix the problem. Any suggestions?
I do not have paddles, but it could be the wires running from the gear box to the paddles have a poor connection..
AC Auto oh okay , I just need to find which color represents the paddles
@@ethelberto.8008 There's another video where the guy had multiple wires cut or frayed and one was for the paddle shifters, so it seems like this repair should resolve it if you get all damaged wires fixed.
hi ive just noticed i cannot upshift in sports mode but only on the lever , the paddles still shift up and down and it does enter sport mode...

Hey, from what you've told me it sounds very similar to the issues I had. I would shift into sports mode but it would throw me back into drive. And I also couldn't upshift. Pull apart the shifter like I did ans check for a loose or broken wire. Sounds like you have a broken wire somewhere in the gear box.

I can think of two things man, how'd ur re-engage the wire? Could it have been a faulty set up? Also did u check your other wires? Maybe you had more than one bad wire

Yes, it could be possible this is your issue. You should up the trim and check the wires out
Bro I literally have this exact problem with my E90. For the past couple weeks I couldn’t shift up so I to use the paddles. Your wires could be losing connection over time, today is the first time my car didn’t go in sports mode

Hey man, would this wire being broken cause “transmission malfunction” and make it to where its stuck in 3rd gear?
When you shift into sport mode does it throw you right into 3rd? Or you can't shift past third? It could be a wiring issue similar to me. Id pull your gear box apart and check out the wires.
@@acauto7886 it was working fine one day then it rained and i lost traction now the transmission is stuck in 3rd gear all the time. If i move it to sport or to shift, nothing happens its just stays in “D”.
Oh ok, mine did the same thing. Id put it in "D/S" but itd stay in "D" take a look at the wiring. Make sure nothings broken or loose

Hello, I've got some question. I have BMW E90 330XD and I got a transmisison fault that says "R, N, D, may not be avalible! Selector lever emergency release may need activating.". The lever is working, all gears are engaging even DS and M. It drives normal and it shifts normal when driving. P.S. Clearing the fault code doesn't work and it pops back again.
What fault code pops up?
@@acauto7886 I didn't remember it when the guys from the service checked. But they told me it has to so something with the lever
What do you recommend, if the there isn’t any visible wire to Sauter it back to?
Hm, I don't know 100% check you fuses to see if any are blown

The only time I can use sport mode is if I turn the car off for a few and turn it back on. When in sport it only lasts for about 40 seconds then cuts out and goes right back to D? Anybody know what could be the reason?
I also have a F series shift knob on my e92
My car goes into sport mode but whenever I shift it says drive but it goes into sport and then switches back to drive

When you put it into sport, does it stay in drive? Or does it temporarily shift into DS, than back to drive
@@acauto7886 when I put it into sport it stays in “D” and when I use the steptronic for manual it will shift through the gears but if I wait around “10 seconds” without shifting again it’ll drop back into “D” again
I had the same issue. But my cause was the wiring. Check ur fuse box. And your sure your re attachment wasn't faulty?
