    Is it the weather, or the new boat? I can hear the water slamming against the hull pretty loudly, and i don't recall that on the old boat. I'm not a sailor, so i'm not sure if they all make that noise, or if that's just the sound of the new boat? New homes make new noises, and it's always an adjustment.

      Agreed! Someone f*cked up somewhere and the brand new engine got water up the exhaust, I would be pushijg hard for a full replacement engine. Worst case if the oem is not going to swing it, they should offer a minimum of 5yrs full warranty if they have to keep the rebuilt one.

    • @jaegeratsea
      @jaegeratsea 4 месяца назад

      It is easy to get the water out of the engine. Sounds like the anti siphon valve on the exhaust failed. I had this happen on a Monohaul crossing and we were able to suck all the water out and restart the engine without bending a piston. No problems following it. One can take a diesel that has been submerged in sea water and get it running again.

    My wife started watching your channel as she was hooked. Because I have been following you off and on for the past several months, I set her up with some of the older seasons. As we get into the latest season, we'll watch an older season and then on to the present. BTW, we spend a lot of time taking the sailboats from our boat club out for days at a time. And when we just want to chill, we have nice 32ft. Sea Ray at our disposal. Keep sailing and keep smiling.

      Yes, but most NEW homes don’t come with problems like this for a long while until things start getting broken in and used. Used/previously owned ‘new’ homes do and that’s more to be expected.
      A brand spanking new boats like this will have its quirks, but all this happening at once, is just ridiculous!

    My heart's been breaking for you two in these last two videos! I'm pretty certain you knew better than anyone what you were getting into with a new performance multihull, but wow, what a difference, right? I've done 1500 miles in the class recently, including double-handing a Neel 43 from Anapolis to Miami last December, the hard way. I don't even have words to explain to my friends on the beer can circuit how different it is when compared to our normal lives trying to squeeze 1/4 knots out of 30 year old racer/cruisers every weekend. Everything is more complicated, more powerful, and less comfortable in messy seas. I can't imagine what it's going to be like trying to manage that boat and two little ones while making passage. But, it's also hard to explain how incredible it is to make 15 knots with ease on the way to you next destination, and how much more spacious and comfortable multihulls are when you get there! Good luck! I'll be following along.

      Don't be surprised when the passage is going to be exceptionally long that Elayna and the kids just fly. Riley will hire the needed help for certain sails. No way those children will actually cross an ocean.

    That was one heck of a shake down passage. Better to discover as many concerns now than later. Refreshing to see everyone come to the party and step up and own their parts of the responsibilities. As you say it is the structural integrity of the boat that was number one. She stood up magnificently which must leave you all feeling very reassured of what you have. The engine rebuild if done correctly should be a no brainer too. Here’s to great sailing and adventures to come. Enjoy the new vessel.

    13:00, there are no words…..these two need to be much more careful. I remember them crossing the Atlantic on the first boat and he caught a fish and went outside the pushpit to get control of it. No harness, no PFD. One slip and it was all over as Eleyna wasn’t going to get the boat back to him. Now this at 13:00 mins.

      @@chrispomfret8592 we have seen the vids the interior is small and for a 60ft boat with only 2 cabins and a couple pods is not the same as current 60ft cats. Go check them out. The tender is strapped to a net that is poor, the helm has no cover, seat, and is way exposed nothing to hook safety line on if Reiley ever puts one on.

And by the point of your shower I would have just cried and you handled it beautifully. congratulations on making it look so easy. Oh your poor new boat! You two are handling it all with such grace and decorum. I would be sitting in a corner crying that my new boat is breaking. I'm sure there are stresses we don't see on the camera, but you share with us the good and bad and it's just amazing how much you two need to know and handle. Be safe - very jealous of the hot weather and beaches you are able to enjoy - as I had into our winter here (Southern Tier of NY).

    I had a similar voltage issue on my tractor with a yanmar diesel motor. I worked on chasing a short for 4 days and gave up to take it to the shop. They decided the fastest and easiest fix was to replace the entire wiring harness. Fixed my issue so I have kept the old harness and I found the short and repaired it and have it just incase.

    You could really hear how loud and harsh the ride was out there in the rough weather. That said, I hope you plan on bolting those picture frames to the wall, or they'll be flying all over the place when you hit rough weather again. Shame about that engine. I'd be interested to know how the water ingress occurred. In a way, it's kind of a blessing in disguise. You got hammered hard and the engine seized, so now you've got the opportunity to sort it out. I really do wish you all smoother sailing from here on out, though. That was a pretty hard 3-4 day trip...for everybody.

  • @leonaessens4399

    I still like your new boat. It'll all come right. Having to replace a brand-new engine is probably not a good look for Yanmar, but in the end that's what shakedown cruises are for. I had a Yanmar on my own trimaran back in the 1970s. It was probably the ONLY thing that never went wrong on that boat! In the meantime, I am fascinated. You're in what used to be "my" domain, having spent some 20 years in the 1980s/90s in Brunei/Sarawak, Singapore, Jakarta and Manila. I was in and out of Kota Kinabalu (from Brunei) all the time, it seems to have been spruced up considerably! Bahasa Indonesia and its Malaysian counterpart do have some minor differences based on their respective Dutch and English influences.

      seems like it was hydro locked from ocean intrusion into the exhaust? or maybe a seal on the propshaft allowed salt water into the crankcase. seems like a design problem with the boat rather than the engine.??? dunno? is the yanmar a genset that powers an electric motor/shaft or is it a engine/transmission?
