    The Tokyo Marathon is one of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors. It is an annual spring marathon, which originally started in 2007. It is difficult to get into the Tokyo Marathon, as spaces are limited for international runners. The course starts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku. The start time for the Tokyo Marathon is 9:10 A.M. The marathon course drops about 100 feet in elevation during the first 5K. This marathon course provides a really good tour and sights and sounds of downtown Tokyo. The Tokyo Marathon finishes near Tokyo Station. The course is only open for seven hours and has certain cut-off points. The time limit is based on the gun time of the race, not the time you actually cross the starting line. A cut-off time is strictly enforced at each checkpoint (there are 8 checkpoints for the Tokyo Marathon) due to limited duration of traffic control and security operation. The runners of the Tokyo Marathon who fail to pass through the checkpoints before the cut-off time will be pulled from the race and be disqualified.
    As you run along the Tokyo Marathon you will see some interesting places and buildings. Note that you will run past the Shinjuku Train Station, which has an average of 3.5 million passing through its doors every day. It is the world's busiest train station. You will also see the Tokyo Skytree and the Sensoji Temple. The Tokyo Skytree is the tallest freestanding broadcasting tower in the world boasting 2,080 feet in height. The Sensoji Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo and is said to have been built in 628.

      I agree that Tom Perry is a great story for everyone about how to keep trying no matter what to stay healthy. It was just really interesting that Longry just happen to run into him as she was running and found out about his personal story.
      We all have personal stories and can learn alot from Tom Perry of Minnesota.

    Watched TM for the first time to cheer for my cousin who was participating at that time... What surprised me the most was just right after the race, maybe within an hour, all streets were cleared and cleaned like no major event happened!just wow.

      I agree and was impressed. The City of Tokyo was really clean and had no crime. I think it has to do with their culture more than anything else. Its something that all of us can learn from.
      Thanks for watching the video, we really appreciate it.

    What was your average time per mile? I got into Tokyo 2024 and am curious if I'll make the cutoff times or not?

    • @ericmonte2038
      @ericmonte2038  8 месяцев назад +3

      lilytam,
      Longry's average running time per mile was approximately 10:50. So long as you wouldn't be higher than 12:00 per mile; you should be okay.
      It is a really great marathon and I'm sure you will enjoy the unique experience. They do enforce the cutoff times, but at least your aware of this fact before you start. In the video it specifically states each cutoff time and distance you must complete. I hope that information helps you out to be successful in the marathon.
      Best of luck in your running efforts at the Tokyo Marathon and have fun! You will do great! Thanks for watching the video and I just recently completed this video of Longry's experience of running the 2023 Berlin Marathon. We produce these videos not only to help out other runners, but to always remember the fun and unique experiences that each marathon provides. Additionally, I really enjoy learning new skills and have never used Final Cut Pro before to produce these videos. As a result, I am continuing to learn and trying to make each video better than the last one.
      Just click here to watch the Berlin Marathon video, if you want. 😀

    Why so hard to get in to this race?

    • @ericmonte2038
      @ericmonte2038  9 месяцев назад +1

      It is a popular race and they limit the numbers of participants. Additionally, the number of overseas runners is also limited.
      My only advice is to keep trying to get into the race and eventually you will be able to run the Tokyo Marathon. Best of luck to you and have fun running.
