I was considering purchasing this bike, but I've come across numerous horror stories about having to constantly rejet the carb if you plan to ride in the mountains. I live at an elevation of 2,500 feet and often ride at much higher elevations. It sounds like a hassle to adjust for different elevations. I'd love to see a video on how you manage this issue when riding through such a broad range of elevations in a single day.

So, I'm sure that I will be doing any super long rides with the Hawk where the elevation changes enough to need to change the jets. Since I went from a 110 to a 100/102, I would probably just carry a 95, 105, and a 110 to cover the range. I think I dropped about 1200 feet when I rode out to the Edge of the World, but I didn't have any issues with tuning. I was probably right at the edge of being too lean, but I didn't notice any difference. The carb is really easy to take off, so it would only take a few minutes to drop in a new jet if you're noticing issues.

@@TyposGaragethank you for this information. My hawk arrives tomorrow. Would love to see a video of you covering how to change jets at different elevations. I’ve not seen a video like that on all of RUclips, and I know people have been looking for one :-).

I'm at 6000 ft and am running the stock with the mixer at 2 turns on the mixer with a thin washer under the needle and she is running pretty good.
I do have an aftermarket muffler and a pod filter on it.
Since i don't get to wet out here in northern Nevada the pod filter is my choice because i had the same issue with the intake hose. 😎👍

Hey ,im in AZ too. New rider here, ive acquired a2021 hawk rps with only 39 miles on it. After watching hours of videos on RUclips, i decided to do what the majority of hawk owners do, which is get a nibbi carb and pod filter. Im planning on. Deleting the airbox and maybe the aftermarkwt exhaust. Again, I am a newbie rider and any imput would be grwatly appreciated. My question after installimg the nibbi carb, do i leave it as is or do i rejet? If so what number would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

It definitely depends where in AZ you are. Deleting the airbox and putting a free flowing exhaust on will make the bike run more lean, so you will probably need a bigger main jet and possibly a pilot jet.

I use a 110, but I'm at only 700 feet. Those speedometers are NEVER right!

I used a 110 at 1000 feet and it ran pretty good. Yea, I really need to use the GPS on my phone to see what my speed actually is.
