The US flag is a symbol Of the US Republic aka government. lol does anyone actually think about what they are saying when they state the pledge? And fyi, I went to a Christian school and Christians are not supposed to stand and recite the pledge because if you pledge to the government you are breaking your commitment to God and why it’s taught and you learn it but at my school the morning started with the anthem playing but we never recite the pledge instead we started with with morning prayers.
@@clsinds5876 I am a Christian, as well, but I don't have a problem reciting the pledge of Allegiance. I am not forsaking God by pledging allegiance to the Republic, one nation, under God. My mother and father were also Christians, and they taught us to honor our country, our flag, and our pledge, but to remember that God comes first always.
And every spoiled athlete that chooses to kneel at the national anthem, spits on the bodies of all who died for us to be free. Stand for the flag. Stand for the anthem. Always and forever. Ths k you for showing this to educate more. I was taught this as a gradeschool girl. By our veterans that were brought into our classrooms to teach us. In uniform.
I understand the importance of respecting the flag and what it represents. However, I believe that kneeling can be a respectful way to express concerns when the country is not meeting its ideals. People kneel before God and royalty as a sign of respect, so why is kneeling during the anthem viewed so negatively? Perhaps it's because it draws attention to issues we'd rather not face. Additionally, most of the content in this video is inaccurate, which could also be seen as disrespectful of our history. I don't think that is the intent here by any means, but those who create it must know that.
Bullfeathers, no military personnel ever took an oath that mentions anything about the flag. You obviously never wore the uniform and took the oath. This story is full of lies, told by a right-wing nationalist preacher.
I'm an old lady. When I was in school, the first thing we did was pledge allegience to the flag. I was brought up respect for the flag, and I was also told the story of Francis Scott Key writing the song after the attack of Fort Henry. The schools have gotten away from it and don't even have an American flag. How can we forget those brave men, those brave patriots who gave theirs lives willingly to create this great country? Loved your reaction, and I hope we can all share this… It is our heritage as Americans.
This is why we veterans, we the people get so angry when people kneel during the anthem, or throw the flag on the ground and stomp on it. That flag is a symbol of our freedom. It is not racist, sexist, homophobic. That great flag says we are free human beings and we will not bow down and comply with your tyranny. We will not be ordered about and ruled by communist foreign leaders nor by the tyrants in our own police and government. No one ever affected positive change from kneeling on the ground. We must stand and fight and make our voices heard. Together, as free Americans.
Stomping on the flag, putting it on the ground, and desecrating it in any way is always unacceptable. However, kneeling for the flag, or for anything, is an ultimate sign of quiet respect. The bashing of people kneeling for the flag needs to stop, as it’s just another way to honor and show respect, whether we like it or not has nothing to do with it. Veterans serve to protect our rights of self expression. Kneeling has, from the beginning of time, represented a quiet and dignified respect. It’s a shame it’s become politicized
@@Nomad-vv1gk I didn’t say anything about oath to flag. That would be ridiculous. I did vow to protect MY country from all enemies foreign and domestic. I honor that oath still to this day.

The Seige of Baltimore Sept 12 - 15, 1814 (bombardment of Fort McHenry Sept 13-14 for 25 hours) was the backdrop for Mr. Key to writing his poem (which was later put to music) from his observations from one of the prison barges in the bay that fateful night. Although this version of the story is a bit embellished, a lot of the facts are true. Seeing the flag throughout the night and morning showing the Americans would not surrender is the highlight of his poem. The British not being able to neutralize the fort and capture the town and having expended most all of their ammunition, withdrew. Soon after a "cease fire' was called and a Treaty signed.

I learned this in school and, to this day, I get tears when the National anthem is played. Our flag is our symbol of life, rights and freedom and the people who have fought or do fight for us. Nice reaction.
This story was about the War of 1812, not the American Revolution. In all the schools I've attended (Navy brat here), the War of 1812 was barely covered at all. This story wasn't told as far as to why the Flag should never touch the ground, etc..but I knew and learned it on my own. I get soooo pissed when people who are so ignorant use our Flag for their so called causes like kneeling with the anthem is being played, etc..WRONG way to bring awareness to a cause, IMHO. Our Flag represents our freedom and independence and the sacrifices our forefathers have made to keep us a Constitutional Republic. Now it's in danger of being destroyed and people better wake the frig up and defend our country and not let it fall!
Interesting well then if it was the war of 1812 how was the British war ships here and fighting Napoleon and the French? It’s a story with some facts but about 90% of it is made up including the presence of the flag as it was lowered per flag etiquette at dusk and before the attack on the military fort, which returned fire all night.
@@clsinds5876 If I'm not mistaken, during wartime, the Flag stays up, especially during an active battle. The British, at the time, had the largest fleets at sea than anyone else, so I'm sure they had some over there fighting Napoleon/French. I don't think the entire fleets were there during the War of 1812. That was when the British burned the White House down. Yes, the story was embellished a bit but, the the premise of the whole story was that there was a skirmish and the British tried to burn down the fort and the Flag because they couldn't get past the fort to get any leverage but failed to do it. Francis Scott Key told what happened because he witnessed it all and thus wrote the poem and it ended up being our National Anthem. BTW, the Smithsonian has that very Flag that flew over Fort McHenry at that time.
I apologize, I meant to say war of 1812. The song was actually a poem written by Francis Scott Key in 1814. Later, it was put to music and accepted as our national anthem.

@@Momtojoshcanpark Your brother receive what is correctly called a "rifle volley" a 21 gun salute is only rendered to monarchs and presidents. The practice of Firing Three Rifle Volleys Over The Grave: This practice originated in the old custom of halting the fighting to removed the dead from the battlefield. Once each army had cleared its dead, it would fire three volleys to indicate that the dead had been cared for and that they were ready to back to the fight. The fact that the firing party today consists of seven riflemen, firing three volleys, does NOT constitute a 21-gun salute. Although the most common makeup of a military salute today is eight members, consisting of seven rifles and a non commissioned officer (NCO) in charge of the detail, there is no official number that must be used. Whether 3, or 8, or even 10 firing, it is the three volleys that is the real salute of honor. 21-Gun Salute: All personal salutes may be traced to the prevailing use in earlier days to ensure that the saluter placed himself in an unarmed position. Salute by gunfire is the most ancient ceremony. In the earliest days, seven guns was a recognized British National Salute. Those early regulations stated that, although a ship could fire only seven guns, the forts could fire for honors three shots to one shot afloat. In that day powder of sodium nitrate was easier to keep on shore than at sea. In time, when the quality of gun powder improved by the use of potassium nitrate, the sea salute was made equal to the shore salute - - 21 guns as the highest national honor. For a period of time, monarchies received more guns fired than republics, but eventually, republics claimed equality.

Those who wear items made to look like the American flag show absolute disrespect to the lives lostinto the flag itself.

It shows he knows nothing of his own history. When this battle took place, Africans were not allowed to be citizens of the USA. This battle took place during the War of 1812, not the Revolutionary War. Africans, whether free born, freed or enslaved were not granted citizenship in the USA at that time. In fact, escaped slaves in both wars fought on the side of the British, who granted them freedom for doing so. This is the real American history white people are afraid to have taught in schools.
Now you know why we stand (not kneel) and salute our precious flag and never let it touch the ground. I just wish that the person who created the slide content would have cared enough to ensure that it was free from typographical errors (of which there are several).
This story is full of lies and it has nothing to do with people standing or kneeing. Stop with that lie. When this battle took place, no African, whether free born, freed or enslaved was allowed citizenship in the USA so why should it have any significance to Black Americans. In fact, escaped slaves and free born Africans, fought with the British during the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War as the British granted them freedom for their service. America guaranteed keeping or putting them in slavery for their service. That is the truth of American history white people now are passing laws to prevent from being taught in schools.

The unfortunate thing about this is that the schools would rather teach social justice things than actual American History. I'm 70 and we learned this story in elementary school. We also had Civics classes before graduating from high school. Different times. Back then schools were more concerned about what was between your ears than in your skivvies 😏🤷
Ww were taught about the battle as a whole reason for the poem written by Key, but we were taught in depth. This story has a few embellishments but it does cover the spirit and inspiration for the poem quite well.
Fort McHenry, Baltimore, 500 British im 19 ships, - and men holding the flag up and dying .the nuns taught me this in grammar school, many decades ago. The shredded flag is now behind glass in the Smithsonium Institute. Francis Scott Key wrote it down as a poem, the poem bacame popular later and became a song, and later , the song became our National Antherm
It was dozens of ships, not hundreds, but the rest of the story is pretty much accurate. Sadly, the ones responsible for ensuring that all the words of the song were accurate did not do their job very well. It is NOT "What so proudly we held" - it is actually "What so proudly we hailed";
Got cut off. Next - "through the perilous flight" Wrong - Through the perilous "fight"; "O'er the ramperts we watched" - misspelling! It is actually "Ramparts"! Nitpicking, I know. But to put out such an impactful video like this with these 3 mistakes is unacceptable!!!
Original poem O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream, ’Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave. O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation! Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto - “In God is our trust,” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
This is why Patriots are so hard on people about not letting the flag touch the ground and why we get offended so much when it does and why we believe that it should be folded up and put away afterwards

now you know why people get upset when the flag is disrespected,be it touching the ground ,kneeling for the anthem etc. its what gave america its indepence at a high cost of life and blood
And this is why many Americans got upset when C.K. started kneeling during the National Anthem......
We're not perfect but we are the greatest country on earth!!!
Fort Henry is why, to this day, we do not let our flag hit the ground.
This video should be played in every public school once a year
Once you know the whole story, you can understand why our Flag and The National Anthem means so much to many Americans.
The flag is more than just a piece of cloth. It's a symbol of freedom and strength. You may not like what goes on in our country, but never disrespect our flag. It means more than life to true Americans.
The US flag is a symbol
Of the US Republic aka government. lol does anyone actually think about what they are saying when they state the pledge?
It's OUR flag made up by OUR blood , does not belong to government
@@clsinds5876 I do not pledge to the government. I pledge to the flag, one nation under God and the constitution.
This tattered flag hangs, on display, at the Smithsonian in Washington DC! ♥️ 🇺🇸 ♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸
Remember trump believes those who join the military are fools,
Our military fights for our rights, not for a flag. They fought to give athletes the freedom to not stand to make a stand.
And people knelt when the song played. Every American should hear this. These are the people that they disrespected.
That’s why you stand when that song is sung
I'm PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.
Thank you for your service.
As a veteran, you should stop this lie. The oath you took upon entering military makes no mention of any flag
@@Nomad-vv1gk I didn’t say anything about oath to flag. That would be ridiculous. I did vow to protect MY country from all enemies foreign and domestic. I honor that oath still to this day.
@@denniss5505 people aren’t kneeling for the flag to show honor and respect. Exactly the opposite in fact. My comment isn’t “bashing of people kneeling for the flag.” I’m just pointing out that it is disrespectful, and ineffective to their cause. That progress would be achieved through other means-standing together and demanding change through our unified voices.
Remember our flag represents our people not our government really. It’s ours. That’s why it angers so many of us when someone disrespects our flag. Protest what you want that’s our right as Americans but leave our flag out of it. Many have died to protect that flag, our people and the freedoms we enjoy. It deserves respect. Anyone who disrespects our flag looses my respect or support for their cause immediately.
No the flag represents the Republic in which you pledge to when you stand and state the pledge of allegiance. I pledge Allegiance to the flag.
Of the United States of American AND to the REPUBLIC FOR WHICH it stands….and why it’s acceptable
For Christian’s to not stand for the pledge as the Bible states they cannot pledge their allegiance to anyone but God.

Thank you Greg for respecting the military and my fellow veterans. I appreciate you.

When I was a junior in high. Schoo, 1974 we spent 6 weeks on the American Revolution and this story was taught. I'm glad it was recorded this way. ❤
Not exactly historically correct..

When my brother died, they played the 21 gun salute. My mom could never hear that again without breaking down.

This is why so many of us elders who survived the second world war have a depth of understanding that you never wear the flag as clothing, a hat, a Face covering and how important it is to raise your flag in the morning bring it down and fold it properly in the evening and never let the flag touch the ground.

And recently, that fraternity held up the flag. God bless them.

Of thee, I sing! 🙏 Hold fast American patriots!
It was dozens of ships, not hundreds, but the rest of the story is pretty much accurate. Sadly, the ones responsible for ensuring that all the words of the song were accurate did not do their job very well. It is NOT "What so proudly we held" - it is actually "What so proudly we hailed";
Original poem
O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
’Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
This is why Patriots are so hard on people about not letting the flag touch the ground and why we get offended so much when it does and why we believe that it should be folded up and put away afterwards
