  • 1996 saw a huge bump in sales in the already popular SUV market, and now, not only were the mid-size SUV markets skyrocketing, so were the full-size three-row SUV's and a new segment was making its way, the "Sport Cute". The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4 would make their debut. Geo had their Tracker and Suzuki had the ever-quirky and hyper fun-to-drive 2-seat targa X-90. We now know them as the compact crossovers, but in 1996, that term hasn't been invented yet. The Explorer from 1996 is a very different animal than the Explorer of 2020. The Explorer of 1996 is more along the size of the new 2020 Ford Escape, shy of just a couple of inches. We have grown and our vehicles have grown, too! So, today, take a look at what was once the king of the highways and anywhere between gas stations! The Eddie Bauer Explorer is the ultimate expression of the outdoorsman (outdoors-person) and luxury. Only the Limited would top it in the lineup.

    odometer stopped working at 209,320mi in 2013. Bought her in 2016 Driven through; shallow rivers, mud holes, deep ruts, off-road up mountains in Appalachia. One Top end and One transmission rebuild, and still rolling proud even as a daily drive. She’s my first car, even after owning six other cars.. it’s one of two vehicles I rely on, along with my 2006 P71 Crown Vic. I’m currently restoring the interior, repaint, also having the Eddie Bauer signature and pinstripe painted on. Unfortunately, interior parts and accessories are not easy to come by. It’s next to impossible to find a healthy lamp-out module. This car was a game changer for me when I first got my license and waited three years to buy off my parents. I’ve had so many wonderful memories. I’ll never part ways with her. No, I’m not gonna give up on something that gave me the love of driving, the freedom to venture roads new. She was always there for me even through the hardest challenges I’ve faced so far in my life, with dependability without asking for anything in return. But I want to give the love and care the girl deserves, so I call on my fellow car enthusiasts to help locate rare parts or Even if you have a half ass running explorer of same gen and options you’d like to sell. Please notify me here.

    My family has one of these and of the same year but has a white exterior. It is a workhorse and has gotten us from point A to point B ever since we got the thing about 5-6 years ago. A friend of my dad's had it as a work truck and gave it to us for $200. Of course for that price the vehicle's interior has seen better days and some things don't work, but it has lasted for my family for a fairly long time. We still have it as a backup vehicle, and then, once me and my sister get our licenses, it will kinda become our vehicle.

    I love these Explorers of this generation, I'd drive one of these in a heartbeat.
    Transmissions are flaky on these, but the 4.0's run forever.
    166K isn't bad for the age, either.

    I know this is older but It did not come with aluminum heads. GT40 heads yes, but they were cast iron. Also I'm betting this is a 97. I'm not for certain but everything I've read says the 96 was 2wd only.

    • @NeighborhoodCarReviews
      @NeighborhoodCarReviews  Год назад

      Yeah, I’ve since realized in my research that they were iron. That’s my mistake. And, according to the VIN, it’s a 1996.

      @@NeighborhoodCarReviews no worries. The v-8 was supposedly 2wd in 96... Again I'm not certain about that . Wonder what the production date is? I would bet it's a late 96.
