Where is Toto without SP.? Simons sound & play is the best in Toto
Once upon a time, when music was made by real great musicians: There was a man....- There was a lady... And....there was a Dragon Lord...- And the name of this Dragon Lord was Steven Lukather! ....and, man, did his guitar breathe streams of liquid fire, or not?..- WOW!!
This song has aged so well. First time I heard this was on the King Biscuit Flower Hour on Q-95 in Indianapolis, October of 1980 when I was 15 years old. Still have the cassette tape. Steve Lukather is one of the greats on guitar. I love Africa, but gotta say this is my favorite song by this extraordinary band. The energy, the mystique. Love it!
Me refiero a Toto y Hydra. Es la ruclips.net/video/3CA6X0Zx3lg/видео.html .
If you can get past the "It was a Dark & Stormy Night, a Shot Rang Out, Suddenly … a Pirate Ship Appeared on the Horizon™ …" style of the opening lyric, then this quickly becomes an absolutely awesome tune that more than pays off - it just hurts a tad up front ( though Steve's Hollywood atmospheric opening was always fantastic ). They were like, 12 years old or something when they first recorded this … so you can't really fault 'em, and Simon's groove on this live version is amazing … so screw it, no more complaining from me: "Silence!"
That is so true. Ive followed these guys since the late 70s, included Steve`s solo albums. This guy have got so much respect and knowledge of music. He has left his youth "guitar-hero" kind of play. Now he projects all of his knowledge in a way I would call "world musician" manner. He brings something important to music. Actually im humbled beeing able to follow Luke and Totos evolvement. Besides the really important things, its one of my greatest joys in life. This later one makes me wipe every time I listen: ruclips.net/video/p-BtJLaWryA/видео.html

Hydra is great, isn’t it? It’s such a departure from their debut. I love that they experiment. Always have. What other band could come up with tunes as diverse as Hydra, I’ll be Over You, and Falling in Between? What other band would even dare trying?
@@theaterdreamer Honestly the first three Toto albums are my favorites because it has their unique sound. I like everything that came after Turn Back but it always felt kinda like commercial music made to gain succes.
mikosoft This was Simon's audition piece into the band, his choice. Indifference ain't what you're seeing here. Best drummer I ever saw live, and check out the last 8mins of Mike Oldfield's Crises. Wow!

I’m suprised to see no comments on how Simon Phillips killed it on drums, stunning !
Simon killed it on drums! For real!
He always does 💞
This song is absolutely perfect fit for Simon. I think he outdid Jeff on this one.

My favorite Toto song. Got a funky touch.
Funky? For me Is a prog one... Such a fine masterpiece
Man, that monster drumfill, followed by the monster D chord at 03:20. Erection!
This takes me back to my teenager years..... 1979...... back then only 13 years old..... and I still love it..... Toto forever!......
Probably my favorite TOTO-song.... EVER!
Absolutely!
One of their best songs and much better to hear in live.
Absolutely brilliant stuff from a truly classy band!!

I think the Hydra album is Toto’s best work.
You re right
It’s between Hydra, Isolation, and Kingdom Of Desire for me. It’s a hard decision 😂
Such an underrated work
Wow, sounds better than perfect!

Steve Luckather is getting better trough the time. He is like wine. Impressive!

Lukather is the rarest of breeds. He’s an absolute monster guitarist that plays what is perfect for the song.

Hydra when I sat and do my homework at school.
La più grande band al mondo
in which year this video was recorded
There was a man
Who walked alone
Searching for the girl who
had just caught his
"I was a fool!" he cried
His mind had wandered
He blinked and the sky
moved ever so slightly
He searched the city
She was nowhere to be found
Meanwhile she was floating
downward, downward
Do you want your freedom
Do you want my love
Do you want your freedom
From the one you're thinking of
There lies a lady
Naked and yet not knowing it
A spell had chained her heart forever
Pray upon by the wolves in Times Square
Feel into an abyss of thin air
Innocence caged in sanctuary
There sat the Dragon Lord
Playing solitary
Defying the rules the holy
boys leap Hell's Kitchen
Do you want your freedom
Do you want my love
Do you want your freedom
From the man who lives above
Suddenly a voice was heard
In a flash the brave young man appeared
The Dragon Lord will cut him with his tail
Chased him to the stairway
Caught him halfway to the top
Sent him whirling down
Fireballs, summer solstice
The Dragon Lord descended down on him
She turned to look but saw
only darkness silence
You don't want your freedom
You don't want my love
You don't want your throat cut
By the same I'm thinking of

Thanks for your sharing!!
Simon kills this song. The band lost a ton after he left.
True. And most would say the band lost a ton when Jeff Porcaro died. If that's true, how good was JP?! Both were savage drummers!
wena
Impressive! Heil Hydra!
Fuck me. What a track!!!!!
True Music
Simon Phillips killed it.
mon titre preferer de toto !!! depuis 1977
5:53 - when you're a bass player who's really into it but the drummer is an indifferent Brit :D

During the whole concert Nathan East kept turning to look at Simon , I'd be freaked out 😁
Watch the end of I can't stop loving you, the interplay between Luke, Nathan and Simon. That is NOT indifference you see.
Guys, it was a joke. I know it's Simon's typical face, I've seen them live.
Jo!
mad stuff ...love toto
One of my dreams is to them alive.... They are masters in music...
I did'nt know that Paige was inspired by Jeff Dunnham's 'Achmed'.Silence!!
