my cello students and I watched this video, silently, couldn't get our eyes off of the screen, we cried, you sir gave us all a new perspective to cello playing, we don't know you, but we connected with you, the dedication you have is clear, maybe because we are Cellists it's even more touching to us because we know what you went through to reach this place. It's unfair that you don't have millions of subscribers and views. Love and respect from Amman - Jordan
I played this piece on the violin, I can imagine how hard it must be on the cello and you played it perfectly👏the cello sounds just like a violin - you have my utmost respect
8:30 is the most unfathomable part to me. Like I've seen fast octaves and chords before, but the jumpy rapidly ascending nature of that section is just incredibly well done!!!
HOLY GODDAMN MOTHER OF GLORY I am just speechless. May I ask you this: how satisfying is it to play this piece unequivocally FLAWLESS?? Always been in awe of this piece ever since Your Lie in April but the sheer attitude and confidence that you emanate with your pristine, yet gorgeous tone is killing me. As a young cellist I aspire to be like this someday.. (gonna have to take the practicing to a new level though) holy shit, thank you for sharing I am going to go practice now 💖💖💖 I liked and subscribed :))
I'm a young cellist too. I discovered the thumb position ( not sure if you say it like this I'm French) and it's incredible but also painful.... and I understand now that is just the beginning 😅🥲
You make the cello sound like a violin!🤗. This is the first time I ran into one of your brilliant performances through your channel. I agree with other commenters that your work should be more known because your cello playing is just mesmerizing and genius. Chapeau!😍
Oh my goodness, this sound PHENOMENAL!!! I could not take my eyes off the screen as I saw you hit those jumps like crazy!! And the sound is amazing!!! Bravo
I had heard and loved this S-S piece for violin and orchestra or violin and piano, but just discovered versions for clarinet, flute and this beautiful cello rendition by Timothy Hopkins. I haven't looked farther yet, but, oh my, each version is extraordinary. What's not to love about a well-played cello?
Impressive, extraordinary, remarkable, flawless, etc!!! My favorite instrument has never sounded better. In my opinion you have a perfect vibrato. So glad I accidentally found your channel. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Solo había escuchado esta pieza de un violin y piano pero el chelo está uff demasiado genial y tiene su toque. Espero algún día poder comprar un violin y poder sentir la satisfacción (previa práctica obviamente) de tocar esta obra de arte!!! 💯
Hello, Timothy. I heard you for the first time today. You are a fantastic cellist. Why didn't I hear you at the Tchaikovsky or Queen Elizabeth competition? The whole world needs to hear you😊
This might be the most fun arrangement of this piece I've ever heard! The part at 8:48 is always my favorite, and it works incredibly well on the cello, and looks impressive as well!
I suppose this piece should be written for cello, I love violin version, but cello sound is so deep and taste, I adore it. Thank you so much for this incredible interpretation, bravo👏
oh my god the harmonics at 3:53 are crazy! i actually had to pause for a second. geez this entire performance is beautiful,,, it really makes me want to play again. and 4:34 omg!
@@timothy.hopkins_cellist Ah I see, though I did notice you started on the original octave but moved down an octave on the G. I’ve got a question, I’m trying to explore new repertoire to play and I was wondering if you thought it would be possible to play Tchaikovsky violin concerto on the cello?
If you put enough work in, anything should be possible somehow. The question is does it make sense. I think this Saint-Saens can sound great on the cello (even though it was a real challenge). But I think there are some pieces that are dedicated to one instrument exclusively. E.g. I have heard fantastic performances of cello suites on the double bass. However, I could not imagine a bass player performing the Dvorak concerto. See my point?
Just after a little moment, I couldn’t make myself apart from You Tube. Is this really a cello? You play it sometimes like violin, but when it goes to c string, touches my heart gently but strongly. Can’t believe it!!!!
you know he's good when he makes it sound like a violin
i had to take a moment at the beginning to register that this was the sound of a cello-it sounds amazing!!! super underrated
So glad to hear that. Thank you!

I got chills the first stroke you've done.If you close your eyes, many says its violin but its a cello.

Mind blown!! Congrats to you achieving GREATNESS!
Around 8:20 8:30 he’s using the back of his thumb to finger a note for the arpeggio!! Never seem that done! A true pro!

Cool...
Incredible performance.
I was wondering if you had the transposed sheet music for cello as I would really like to play the piece?
Thank you! I didn't write it down yet. But actually, all I did was just playing from the violin score, just one octave lower.
