  • Joining me today is Leon Cave.
Since 2013 Leon has been the drummer with the mighty Status Quo.
Join Leon and myself as we talk about his career so far, from his early days as a young heavy metal fan playing along to Iron Maiden songs through to studying with the renowned manchester based drummer and percussionist (and former guest) Dave Hassel.
Leon tells us about his "sliding doors" moment, a turn of events that got him the Francis Rossi gig, and how things could have been very different if hadnt made a certain decision........ im not giving it away here!!
We talk about what it takes to pull of the Quo songs especially some of the up tempo shuffles and how Leon does this and makes it look so easy!
This was a fabulous conversation, its been a while in the making and im so glad we got it over the line!
Leon, thanks so much for giving up your time from your manic schedule!

Leon is one of my fave drummers. Beeing a Quo fan since the 70's. Seeing all 5 of them. Started playing drums at the age of 50, 10 years ago. Watching Leon. I have one regret in life. Started playing the drums not earlier

Really good video thanks for posting. Leon is a great drummer, I’ve seen him with Quo, Rhino & Jim Kirkpatrick.
I also always wondered why Matt wore headphones when playing with the band

Matty - Leon, thank you both for this fab interview. I met Leon at FTMO convention, Sept 22 and thought what an amazing laid back guy, signed my scarf, cheers Leon. Will definitely be coming to one of the gigs this year and just can't wait. Have really enjoyed this, keep going guys, thank you, Sue

Hello Matty, I was sat next to you at the Marillion concert @ the L’pool Phil in ‘21. Did you manage to see Europe, Foreigner & Whitesnake? I hope you & your family are well. Even talking as strangers your enthusiasm for music, performance & knowledge brought me to your RUclips channel. Over the years I have recommended your channel to many. I’ve also been to see many live performances of established & up & coming musicians to help support the live music scene. Your interviews are entertaining, detailed & your friendly approach brings a respectful perspective to each musician. Wishing you all the best 🥁

I like the comment about previous drummers playing too fast pre Matt Letley. 😂

Ah fair enough, that's a shame. He's touring with his Alive and Dangerous band this year, maybe you'll be able to chat with him after a gig.
