There are estimated more than 100 leopards living in block 1of yala National Park, and yeah you guys are correct it’s very unethical the way jeep drivers behave in the park specially when it comes to leopard sightings😔 the officials must band the use of mobile phones inside the park for the betterment of the wild life, plus the maximum speed that you can drive inside the the park is 50kmph anything beyond that is against the law.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 for highlighting not just the unbelievable wildlife in Yala but also the side we don’t usually see in the travel vlogs - the crazy amounts of jeeps vying for a glimpse of one leapard. I hope this episode will bring about some much needed regulations for sustainable tourism so these usually shy elusive creatures can live stress free in their only habitat on the island. Very grateful to The Budgeteers for speaking up for the majestic elephants in chains used to entertain tourists, and also for the wild ones being fed just for a photo op. They in turn become a nuisance and we know what happens next. This was by far my very favorite episode of your travels in SL. 🙏🏽
So far, my wife and I are loving this series (not surprising, we loved 1-3, Morocco, etc as well).Wishing you much success with the Budgeteers and many safe travels.
I love how you feel ethically strange about this experience. It is so true.. we desperately seek to see animals and often people forget animals need space. I'm glad you got to see a leopard. And your morals make me love this channel so much more.
My daughter used you guys as an example of how wonderful platonic male/female friendships can be to her dad yesterday. Thanks for being such fun and healthy role models for my teenagers! I'd be proud as heck if my kids enjoyed adult life as much as you 3 seem to!
yea there were a lot of trucks all converging on one leopard but I didn't see anyone stopping the leopard from leaving and going into the bush if it was upset by it, in fact, your video shoed it rolling on its back, with most cats that is a sign that they feel comfortable
Well there is a strict regulation for speed inside national parks. The speed should be 25kmph and of you exceed the fine is 25000 for a truck or 15day ban to enter the park. Some parks are very strict and they have cameras to monitor the speed. If you guys are still in srilanka visit Wilpattu National Park. You will see many leopards 🐆 and bears 🐻 and 10times less jeeps. Also Visit Minneriya or Wasgamuwa park where if you are lucky you will see more than 100 elephants together
It's incredible see that how you guys isnspire others on saving nature and to feel and live on the moments in the nature. love that and wishes to keep it up..
Truly an honest review. U guys are doing a great job..very entertaining video. I am now feeling bit sad as i have a feeling that ur Sri lankan tour is about to get over and we will have to wait for ur next tour.
There are other National parks less visited by tourists. Yala and udawalawe are mostly crowded. Anyway honest review. Lot to learn for SriLankan tourism promoters. Best traval documentary. Can't wait to see the next adventure episode. Love you guys.
Instagram vs. reality af ....I appreciate your raw material a lot! Nonetheless, as I said before I just have to go to Sri Lanka, what a beauty and everyone seems so authentic and lovely
Been saving the episode for Monday nights and loving it. That was a perfect episode showing two sides of the story. The animals are beautiful, but I agree its to many vehicles crowding them. Thank you for sharing the truth. Wish you three a gorgeous week and happy dreams as you rest your head.
this was the kinda video i was talking about showing people the right way and also showing the real side to youtube , the baby elephant sooo cute !!!! well done another great episode.
I never knew that Sri Lanka is has WILD Life.... strangely enough to see a leopard on an island ..... There is NO WILD creature on any Islands on Solomon Islands.... It was informative episode...... Thanks Regards from Solomon Islands
Day Night Riders Sri Lanka is one of the 25 biodiversity global hotspots. There’s a wild amount of wildlife 😊 The leopard, Panthera Pardus Kotiya, is endemic to Sri Lanka.
Great video! I love your series. I’m going to Sri Lanka end of November and I am collecting tips. I will probably choose less frequently visited parks. The idea of putting in your video images of the lonely leopard and right after that this massive group of jeeps around was very impressive and showing the truth. Thanks for the video
Another beautiful episode. 8000 more for the silver play button. Fingers crossed. !!!! And again thank you guys for putting out the ugly aspect of these wild parks. As you guys correctly mentioned there are several wild life sanctuaries here in SL. Yala and Minneriya(Elephants) are the ones mostly plagued by the safari jeep menace. There had been one or two incidents where these magnificent creatures were hit on the park roads and killed. I think There are laws limiting number of jeeps that can enter park on a day currently. But the speed limit laws must be also looked at seriously and ways to implement them practically. Thanks guys!!!
Most travel vlogs only show the highlights of their trips and would definitely not have show all the pick-ups around the leopard. This honest perception is what I appreciate of the Budgeteers. Thanks for another great episode!
Interesting video. The budgeteers always have some amazing content and I don't miss any. I also follow "Around the world in AB ways"- insightful, upcoming, budding vlogger. He also has some great content.
21:30 yala clearly is the most famous national park to see wildlife, but if your goal is mainly to see elephants minneriya & kawudulla is the best spot ,even though they’re similarly filled with jeeps :/ cuz of the larger open area it’s less congested
I really really wish there will a DAY majority of Sri Lanka have a sensible "common sense" mindset like you guys have 💖💖hope that DAY will come before its too late and no wild life is left to be preserved 😊😊 THANK YOU for speaking up on "reality" 💯💯
I first came across you guys in Series 2. I binge watched it & loved it. While I enjoyed the adventures on the road, my only criticism was that it didn't really show the locations very well. It was mostly about hitchhiking: more about the route than the destination. Series 3 rectified that shortcoming. Series 4 is even better!!
Thank you for expressing your frank views on how visitors / visits to the park should be managed. THat is far better than blind praise. Thank you for visiting my country too.
Thanks for the video. My honest opinion on Yala and the overcrowding situation. Its a catch 22 when it comes to the overcrowding. Most national parks, from Maasai Mara in Kenya to Ranthambore in India all are open parks which allow quite a number of visitors to the parks to come and enjoy the beauty of its wildlife. Now yala is the most popular national park in Sri Lanka, for many reasons, and the chances of having sightings of wildlife especially leopards being number 1. So being open to the public, many local and foreign vistors flock to the park to get their chances in seeing these elusive animals. Now at a sighting in this video its actually much less than when its full peak season where its insane. The issue is this. All visitors who come want to catch a glimpse of a leopard, and the drivers are pressured to show them. Now the problem is sightings are rare and only one or two sightings happen per day. This means of course there is a large crowd wanting to see these beautiful cats. Thing is if visitors feel the experience itself is somewhat bad as there are so many jeeps in line to watch, then the only solution is to limit the number of jeeps entering the park per day and jack up the price to match the potential revenue the park will get per person to make it a high end exclusive experience. This of course is ideal for wildlife as well as to promote high end tourism. but this would mean thousands of visitors are going to be left out, plus thousands of people left unemployed due to hotels, jeep services and guest houses having to close down. The sad reality is these protected habitats now need to bring in some worth monetary wise to justify its protection. Hence its a catch 22 situation.
Lotsa long Activities in one episode... U guys didn't seem to be tired man... Amazing... I loved the slow motion u put in the end... Super beautiful... With low light sun set vibes in picture... And the music too very relaxing... Amazing Safari experience... One must do when they visit Shri Lanka..^^,
Thank you for the honesty.I understand the excitement of seeing these beautiful animals but I also think that there should be a limit to number of cars to be let in the park.
Yes, indeed. We hope the parks change their rules. It will make everything better. Less tourists but a better experience for animals and the park visitors 😊
Yala as become a tourist hotspot but the way you took to Jaffna was inside wipatu national park which less srilankan had taken trail.om it.. enjoined your episodes guy's Cheers 🥰🙏🥃
Epic video 👌 Think both sides. Those drivers are doing their best to serve you better. Be happy that you guys saw one wild cat. Thanks for visiting my country.
Loving this series guys, so helpful. I'm off to Sri Lanka in November for a month, I had already planned to go to Udawalawe rather than Yala and the video confirms it. BTW hiring a tuk tuk too for the month, if I get Zeta I'll send you a pic :-) Thanks for all your hard work. K
There are plenty of leopards in parks like Wilpattu and Kumana. I was so distressed when I visited Yala too, the way it's managed is completely wrong. Thank you for your honest review, it's so important to put it out there, because it puts the onus on the Wildlife Department and park management to change things for the better.
Great vid, as always ( I can assure you that you won't see a jaguar. Lina, you'd need to go back to Central or South America for that). the crowd of cars at the leopard sighting. The same thing happens all over the African parks.- mostly.
Another great episode, love the effort you guys put and the improvement from bali to Sri Lanka in your videos looks incredible. just give paddy some sunscreen guy looks as pink as a strawberry. And for a latina your English was just amazing..... xD
you would think there was a system for the jeeps to get in and out once you see the animals. It was just a bottle neck. Awesome to see a leopard in the wild though.
Yala has the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world. Sri Lanka is the only place in the world leopards are the reigning top predator and, with no other big cat to compete with, they have become super-sized - the biggest leopards in the world.
It will be interesting to see how they deal with becoming social media celebs. I mean, we all want them to succeed but now they'll have a bigger budget. Maybe they'll just go upscale a bit and do a budgeteers episode on hoe to rent a cat in the Bahamas for $3k a pop.... etc. Go up and down the budget scale and still show people in each budget range how to get the most bang for their buck. But this video shows that they are ready to go to the next level based on the absolutely amazing video quality and editing shown here, plus the whole damn story backing it up. They just need to own their success and have Paddy out there in front talking about the actual costs of doing higher budget trips, lower budget trips, and everything in between.
Hey Guys brilliant as always well done 👍 just my two cents regarding the Leopard sighting. I was a professional safari ranger in South Africa for 14 years and worked in lots of private game reserves, all of which were run very ethically and ensured that the animals well being was never compromised. Possibly Yala Park needs to be sent some feedback to ensure that the animals well being is maintained and the parks image in the public eye. We only ever had 3 safari jeeps in a sighting and we kept a safe and ethical distance from the animal being viewed as to not stress the animal in any way. Speed limit is a huge worry besides the dust I saw your driver leaving behind for other poor guest to eat it’s dangerous and reckless as well small birds, reptiles and animals are killed. I would love to see a wild Asian leopard after spending years tracking, photographing and viewing their African cousins however after seeing what you experience am a bit reticent now. Thanks again am pumped for Sri Lanka after your awesome series well done 😊🙏💪
Wooow thats so interesting. Thanks so much for commenting! We would've loved to have you along on that safari 😁 Your points are really valid. Thank you. The Sri Lankan nature is fantastic so I hope you can still visit Sri Lanka, and see that asian cousin of your african leapord yourself. it still has lots of other national parks so enough wild animals to track and spot. Yala is just too popular since its close to the southern beaches. Hopefully things improve 😊🤞
I like Paddy’s take on the sighting of the leopards. It is what it is! It’s wildlife and people want to see it. The alternative to having busy sightings like you experienced is to triple the entry fees and reduce the amount of people they let in to a third. It’s 6 and two threes really. I think you might be overthinking it.
Just watched your video in MEXICO from two years ago and we love what you guys are doing! When are you guys coming overs to South America. WE are doing what you guys are doing as well and we've done it through out COLOMBIA and we're heading to ECUADOR in a few days and we plan to do hitchhiking towards Quito. We hope that we can meet somewhere on this side of the world and travel and take videos together! Safe travels lads
Good questions guys. Everyone will have a different opinion but for me personally, I do not like having expectations while traveling. I am perfectly ok with going to a country and not seeing the most iconic thing there but just being there, walking and traveling around and letting things come my way. It is not that I am a conscious traveler or anything, but rather a very lazy one... traveling for me is a stress-free experience... no appointments, no timing, no goal... so I am not willing to stress myself while traveling... not even to see a leopard. Having said that... I enjoyed seeing your shot of it. Beautiful creature. I find it truly sad though that we humans havent learnt to truly coexist with nature and we have had to create natural reserves for them to exist and for us to visit.
The safari scène with the lepard, ow yeah had myself the same situation back in 2005 when we visited Tanzania Africa. We did some safari drives in the early morning and once the radio got Hot, all trucks and jeeps did the same unethical thing. And whith a video edit, sound or just a picture/photo, it does not tell the whole story. So thanks for showing how it realy goes. Anyhow thanks for this amzing episode as always, and C Ya in the next one 🙌🍻🍻🍻
Excellent episode and I love your honesty. Letting people see these beautiful creatures is making them realise we must not let them disappear which is wonderful but we need to allow wild animals to be wild and not ‘socialised’ with humans because we are the most dangerous species on this planet. The most uncomfortable I have ever been was on a trip in Turkey where we went to see some ruins and to spend time at a beach and the tour unexpectedly took us to ‘The house of the virgin Mary’ where an open air mass was being held. We were dressed for the beach in shorts and bikini tops and didn’t have our sarongs and scarves with us. I have never felt more disrespectful in my life. It taught me to take them with me on every trip!
@Steven M Just for your info if you haven't visited sri lanka yet; Yala is famous for elephants, birds, leopards and other wild animals while Udawalawa is only for Elephants.
Very surprised to see how the leopard seemed to be used to to be surrounded in a half circle by lots of Jeeps. It shows that this is the 'normal' situation for animals and tour operators alike. I also can't see the appeal of visiting a park like this as being in a cluster of lots of other cars not only lessens the experience, it absolutely is the opposite of what one would think of when you are talking about "seeing animals in the wild". I was very positively surprised when I visited the Kruger National Park in South Africa. I went in with a rental car so I could do anything at my own pace and away from other people. You get a map and they tell you where the animals are usually to be found during the day etc. But you see lots of animals between these spots and the park was not crowded like in Yala and there is a speed limit inside Kruger National Park because it would be very easy to hit an animal if you are going too fast. Even the camping and bungalow sites inside the park were not fully booked and the small supermarkets inside the compound were selling food for the same price as outside the park. So even if you are on a budget I would highly recommend going into these parks with your own rental car if this is an option. (I know it wasn't in Sri Lanka)
@@TheBudgeteers When you enter they give you a big brown trash bag with some do's and dont's on the back. And as the park is so huge you can easily get 'lost' without seeing another car for miles. They give you a very detailed map tho with all the dirt roads and minor paths.
@@gunsnroses2570 Kruger National Park is 2/3 the size of Belgium and you doubt that in an area that size where no people live (unlike in Belgium) that it is not possible and ever the norm to not have clusters of tour operators at any given watering hole or any other place where animals usually gather? If you ever get the chance to visit you will be positively surprised.
On every thing there is 2 sides or more.. Of course speeding in parks is very wrong. But usually a guide and safari is judged on animals you spot. And no one feels satisfied if you do not see the most epic of them all. Less jeeps means less income so will result in higher prices. And I personally do not think just the elite of mankind should see these beautiful animals. More reason to support anti-trading and anti-poaching of wild animals. And proper wildlife management! WIldlife and nature are our treasures and every one should care about this!
I still think you should come to British Columbia (summer). Wildlife? We have black bears, "spirit" or Kermode white bears, grizzly bears, cougars, whales, eagles, wolves, cute otters, etc. You will not need to go on a crowded excursion to see them. Oh yeah, we have mountains, glaciers, farmland, desert, rain forest, cowboys, wine country (Okanagan Valley), ocean, lakes etc. Your $1000 USD would not go as far - but you could rent a car or hitchhike, camp in great Provincial parks or free backcountry sites. Vancouver is very multicultural and has free festivals every weekend in the summer. Oh yeah, and great craft beer!
Yes you can't camp on top of ella rock since Ella is a tourist hub but there so many other amazing places that you can get the camping experience in Sri Lanka
Never knew our immediate neighbor was so beautiful.. Love from India..
stop littering and polluting, save nature and forests.

But the leopard is breathing in so much exhaust fumes
yes but its not good that it DOESNT shy away from humans. its a wild animal. it shouldnt be that comfortable.

Wow another nice vlog for srilanka jungle 🐒🐆🐆🐆🐘🐘🦀🐋🐳 thanks for visit srilanka 🇱🇰 💪 enjoy your travel in gorgeous srilanka
Thanks 💜
Which cameras use to videos?
so love this place.
you would think there was a system for the jeeps to get in and out once you see the animals. It was just a bottle neck. Awesome to see a leopard in the wild though.
Yeah was mixed feelings
Yala has the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world. Sri Lanka is the only place in the world leopards are the reigning top predator and, with no other big cat to compete with, they have become super-sized - the biggest leopards in the world.
wow! yeah it's a beautiful place!
Your love for saving nature and animals are amazing. Please also announce your viewers not to through wastes and litters in jungle
Thanks 💜
We would've loved to have you along on that safari 😁
Your points are really valid.
Road to 100k! Keep it up guys!!!
Thanks 💪💜💪
Wow, i climbed ella roch 2 days ago and went to udawalawe national park yesterday. Very strange and beautiful to see this right now :)
I like Paddy’s take on the sighting of the leopards. It is what it is! It’s wildlife and people want to see it. The alternative to having busy sightings like you experienced is to triple the entry fees and reduce the amount of people they let in to a third. It’s 6 and two threes really. I think you might be overthinking it.
will definitely download their app
Hi you guys interest revisit SL
Let me know.
Colombo airport open in few days
Very true! 😃💯
Omg!!! What a disaster 😂😂😂
you guys deserve more views
Thanks 💜
We will be in Sri Lanka next month and only have time to do either Yala or Udawale. Which would you reccomend?
Udawale
Wow Kruger sounds much better for sure 💜
Kurger is like the no 1 safari park in the world , so doubt that at any given time there would be lesser vehicles there
@@TheBudgeteers When you enter they give you a big brown trash bag with some do's and dont's on the back.
Good points 💜
Amazing
On Saturday Im going to go volunteer in this exact park all the way from New york.
That's one cool kitty ❤️😍
Im wondering if this is a look in to the future. Massa's of people hoping to spot a last glimp of nature for that amazing istagram picture.
it's very sad
when we visited Ella in 2016 all the vegetation was burned down. during dry season it catches on fire fast.
Yes you can't camp on top of ella rock since Ella is a tourist hub but there so many other amazing places that you can get the camping experience in Sri Lanka
I love the budgeteers...
Superb
Love this vedio...❤❤❤
You should have gone to horton plains and then world's edge. That would have been so good

Thank you for visiting Sri Lanka!
It's so funny how people are queuing to see the animal. We were planning to skip the safary and this video erased any doubts we had. Thanks
Glad we were of help to you Stella 😊 enjoy Sri Lanka 😃
