There are estimated more than 100 leopards living in block 1of yala National Park, and yeah you guys are correct it’s very unethical the way jeep drivers behave in the park specially when it comes to leopard sightings😔 the officials must band the use of mobile phones inside the park for the betterment of the wild life, plus the maximum speed that you can drive inside the the park is 50kmph anything beyond that is against the law.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 for highlighting not just the unbelievable wildlife in Yala but also the side we don’t usually see in the travel vlogs - the crazy amounts of jeeps vying for a glimpse of one leapard. I hope this episode will bring about some much needed regulations for sustainable tourism so these usually shy elusive creatures can live stress free in their only habitat on the island. Very grateful to The Budgeteers for speaking up for the majestic elephants in chains used to entertain tourists, and also for the wild ones being fed just for a photo op. They in turn become a nuisance and we know what happens next. This was by far my very favorite episode of your travels in SL. 🙏🏽

The safari scène with the lepard, ow yeah had myself the same situation back in 2005 when we visited Tanzania Africa. We did some safari drives in the early morning and once the radio got Hot, all trucks and jeeps did the same unethical thing. And whith a video edit, sound or just a picture/photo, it does not tell the whole story. So thanks for showing how it realy goes. Anyhow thanks for this amzing episode as always, and C Ya in the next one 🙌🍻🍻🍻
Great vid, as always ( I can assure you that you won't see a jaguar. Lina, you'd need to go back to Central or South America for that). the crowd of cars at the leopard sighting. The same thing happens all over the African parks.- mostly.
Hey Guys brilliant as always well done 👍 just my two cents regarding the Leopard sighting. I was a professional safari ranger in South Africa for 14 years and worked in lots of private game reserves, all of which were run very ethically and ensured that the animals well being was never compromised. Possibly Yala Park needs to be sent some feedback to ensure that the animals well being is maintained and the parks image in the public eye. We only ever had 3 safari jeeps in a sighting and we kept a safe and ethical distance from the animal being viewed as to not stress the animal in any way. Speed limit is a huge worry besides the dust I saw your driver leaving behind for other poor guest to eat it’s dangerous and reckless as well small birds, reptiles and animals are killed. I would love to see a wild Asian leopard after spending years tracking, photographing and viewing their African cousins however after seeing what you experience am a bit reticent now. Thanks again am pumped for Sri Lanka after your awesome series well done 😊🙏💪
Wooow thats so interesting. Thanks so much for commenting! We would've loved to have you along on that safari 😁 Your points are really valid. Thank you. The Sri Lankan nature is fantastic so I hope you can still visit Sri Lanka, and see that asian cousin of your african leapord yourself. it still has lots of other national parks so enough wild animals to track and spot. Yala is just too popular since its close to the southern beaches. Hopefully things improve 😊🤞
Just watched your video in MEXICO from two years ago and we love what you guys are doing! When are you guys coming overs to South America. WE are doing what you guys are doing as well and we've done it through out COLOMBIA and we're heading to ECUADOR in a few days and we plan to do hitchhiking towards Quito. We hope that we can meet somewhere on this side of the world and travel and take videos together! Safe travels lads
I still think you should come to British Columbia (summer). Wildlife? We have black bears, "spirit" or Kermode white bears, grizzly bears, cougars, whales, eagles, wolves, cute otters, etc. You will not need to go on a crowded excursion to see them. Oh yeah, we have mountains, glaciers, farmland, desert, rain forest, cowboys, wine country (Okanagan Valley), ocean, lakes etc. Your $1000 USD would not go as far - but you could rent a car or hitchhike, camp in great Provincial parks or free backcountry sites. Vancouver is very multicultural and has free festivals every weekend in the summer. Oh yeah, and great craft beer!
As you liked it, others also go to Yala to witness wild leopard and other animals. So these safari drivers do their best to show their clients what they can show in yala. I think only 100 jeeps are allowed at once to enter the national park. In high season we need to book the tickets two to three days prior to the journey.
@@TheBudgeteers Because its very rare scene, i went three times to this national park but couldn't see any leopard in all three times. But i do agree that there should be speed limitation inside the national park. If you didn't see this animal, you will say this place is a tourist trap to attract visitors by promoting leopards. And i don't see that leopard was disturbed by the presence of jeeps
I like Paddy’s take on the sighting of the leopards. It is what it is! It’s wildlife and people want to see it. The alternative to having busy sightings like you experienced is to triple the entry fees and reduce the amount of people they let in to a third. It’s 6 and two threes really. I think you might be overthinking it.
Excellent episode and I love your honesty. Letting people see these beautiful creatures is making them realise we must not let them disappear which is wonderful but we need to allow wild animals to be wild and not ‘socialised’ with humans because we are the most dangerous species on this planet. The most uncomfortable I have ever been was on a trip in Turkey where we went to see some ruins and to spend time at a beach and the tour unexpectedly took us to ‘The house of the virgin Mary’ where an open air mass was being held. We were dressed for the beach in shorts and bikini tops and didn’t have our sarongs and scarves with us. I have never felt more disrespectful in my life. It taught me to take them with me on every trip!
Sri Lanka is high on my list of places to see and Yala was also on the list. However, after seeing this I for one definitely won't be going there, the whole ethos was a travesty and I feel that there should be tighter restrictions on access. You may as well go to the zoo as to get involved in that scrum. If I eventually get to Sri Lanka I think that I'll visit the smaller parks and would rather see nothing than being involved in that kind of tourism. Thanks for posting this as a warning. I made the mistake some time ago of going on an elephant ride in Thailand without knowing about the background to these rides. Now that I know more about it I am embarrassed that I ever did this.
Thank you for your nice tip and gratitude for the Safari's guide. His smile made my day. Thank you for your ethical consideration on the elephant and leopard. Btw, I do really want to learn from the Leopard about how to stay calm before a wild crowd.
Most uncomfortable tour I went on was when I was volunteering in China for a kids summer camp, and while in Beijing, the camp organisers arranged a tour to take the kids to the Japanese opression museum. I know it is important to learn history of your country but the images where extremely graphic and we had kids as young as 7 years old in our group. The other volunteers and I were very shocked at what we saw, yet the kids were not phased. Was an eye opener for sure.
Those yala Jeep drivers are crazy.. no respect for the animals or speed limits. They have killed leopards and other animals in the past. They are like mafia over charging and bullying tourists..tourist dollars are not everything.. we need lot more control and give lot more respect to these animals and parks..
@@jacqdanieles it all depend with the season when its season for the wildbeast migration the prices go up due to the demand. And Kenya has lots of national parks so you can choose others..and its not that expensive to us locals...but next time you come look for me will show you how to cut cost and still have fun
My most uncomfortable experience on a tour was in Cambodia. Some of the guys in our group asked to go stop at the military base where they were able to shoot some guns off. I personally HATE guns and just wanted to ignore it and sit on the bus til they were done. Then I noticed a little monkey in a cage right outside the bus. I love monkeys and decided to get out and see it, which I now don't know if I should have. When I got out the monkey came right over to me and just hugged my hand immediately (monkeys tend to like me). I stood there the whole time letting this monkey hold my hand and rest is head on it. And every single time a gun shot sounded the monkey twitched and squeezed my hand. The poor little guy was trapped in this cage probably until someone wanted pay to shoot it. I freaking lost it. I was crying and screaming at my tour guide. I was so angry they stopped there. I am normally and extremely calm person. I don't think I have yelled at someone since I was a teenage probably 12+ years ago. But I just couldn't contain it.
I barely ever take any kind of organized tour our group activity but by far the most uncomfortable I have ever felt was the walking tour of Hebron H1 + H2 which is divided between Israel and Palestine. I do have a video up on my channel but as filming was highly restricted (which is understandable) it doesn't show all about how the group organizers, the group itself and the locals made it into what felt like a 'human safari' in the worst way possible. Not that there is any good way for a human safari. Having said that I would highly recommend anyone to visit Hebron H1 + H2 if they are ever in the area but just do it without a tour.
This feels exactly the same as the episode of you guys chasing down the blue whales which made me stop watching the channel for awhile. I want to ask the question - if you feel it’s ethically wrong and don’t feel good about it afterwards do you think that it’s right to keep doing these sorts of tours? I understand it’s a process of eductating viewers but personally I don’t enjoy it one bit and fast forward past it because I’m distressed by you guys partaking in it. Just a viewers opinion, your work is so beautiful I feel awful critiquing but I thought you might be interested in a different perspective. I love 99.9% just not the wildlife chasing. Big love 🙏🏻
Long neck village tour near Chiang Rai, Thailand was the most uncomfortable place I've been taken while on a full day tour. We walked out almost immediately as I got the sense there was nothing at all ethical about the tours.
Absolutely a tour in/around Bohol.. It was a boattrip where it seemed you did an awesome snorkeling tour. Nevertheless, they brought us to packed places, stood on the coral en tried to force us to buy stuff. The point where we told them we wouldn't go further with te tour was when they chased seaturtles out of there comfort places just to show us (and a million other tourists). It was horrible, never doing that again..
Well when it comes to the Sri Lankan leopard their numbers are 1,000 and maybe a little more than that so I hope this apex predator survives in the long term future
Sri lanka has 22 different national parks with varieties of animals.so dont judge the whole sri lankan safaries with just two national park😀.according to FORBES sri lanka is the best safari destination outside africa.so come visit us ppl:^)
Thanks for pointing out the flaws of the safari system... I don't blame the drivers as they just trying to make a living at a minimum wage.. but it just complete madness.. the speeds they doing inside the park can easily kill any animal that come in contact with the vehicle... Hopefully authorities will see the video and make some changes.. (but I doubt it).. Again thanks for not glossing over the reality...
The most uncomfortable tour, blimey I have a few as I am big lad all my trips in India was a little cramped :) but the worst has to be on a "local bus" from India border to Kathmandu which was supposed to be a 12 hour trip that ended up nearly 20 hours on the worst roads you can imagine after the earthquake. As I said I am a big and tall lad so when I first got on the bus and sat down they had lowered the luggage compartments as typically Nepalese are not tall people, I couldn't even straighten by head so I booked a second seat so I could sit diagonally which was a nightmare as the entire trip was bouncing me the 1 inch gap into the roof. ...oh and to top that I got pulled out and had to rifles pointed at my head by local soldiers trying to get a bribe off me, I was so tired, I stupidly laughed and refused but they let me go.... Anyway still good times, don't let my comment put you off Nepal though as the Nepalese people are some of the kindest I have ever met.
LOVE THIS EPISODE to see a wild elephants wow!!! bucketlist goalz. I would say the most uncomfortable ive been on a tour would be ANY snorkelling tour in Thailand watch dumbasses standing on coral, feeding the wild monkeys and the boats drivers crashing into the precious coral!
My uncomfortable moment was visiting a dolphinarium and killer whale show after the stark realisation they were captured and trained in such a way that I despised myself for paying to enter. Seeing some things change our perspective though!

Good to know.. Thanks again 💜
Love you guys
We walked out almost immediately as I got the sense there was nothing at all ethical about the tours.
oh really... interesting :)
It was horrible, never doing that again..
wow! sounds terrible! thank you so much for sharing!
Love you 😘
Thanks 💜
Well when it comes to the Sri Lankan leopard their numbers are 1,000 and maybe a little more than that so I hope this apex predator survives in the long term future
Good ❤❤I am sir lanka
Ella rock was on fire, few days after your last episode. For this reason, authorities have banned camping on it. 😐
😫😫😫
Sri lanka has 22 different national parks with varieties of animals.so dont judge the whole sri lankan safaries with just two national park😀.according to FORBES sri lanka is the best safari destination outside africa.so come visit us ppl:^)
*two national parks
@17:15 can you see it ? Then he turns the camera towards him wearing a leopard looking shirt 🤣🤣
Dead proud of you paddy
Thanks for pointing out the flaws of the safari system... I don't blame the drivers as they just trying to make a living at a minimum wage.. but it just complete madness.. the speeds they doing inside the park can easily kill any animal that come in contact with the vehicle... Hopefully authorities will see the video and make some changes.. (but I doubt it).. Again thanks for not glossing over the reality...
No worries 💜
Love you and change your name as budgeters who loves animals
My country . 💞💞💞💞

Anyway still good times, don't let my comment put you off Nepal though as the Nepalese people are some of the kindest I have ever met.

visit the Philippines
This leopard scene was actually so sad. They are supposed to be "shy" animals running away from humans.
Right....😫
The park's website says there are 40 leopards in the Yala national park but the rangers will talk about 60-70 of them.😁
Let's go to singaraja forest srilanka
thank you for the suggestion!
LOVE THIS EPISODE to see a wild elephants wow!!! bucketlist goalz. I would say the most uncomfortable ive been on a tour would be ANY snorkelling tour in Thailand watch dumbasses standing on coral, feeding the wild monkeys and the boats drivers crashing into the precious coral!
only big cat in sri lanka is leopard . jaugar found is south america.
Ella rock z on fire right now 😥
*Yala has more tourists than animals now* ☹️☹️

My uncomfortable moment was visiting a dolphinarium and killer whale show after the stark realisation they were captured and trained in such a way that I despised myself for paying to enter.
Seeing some things change our perspective though!
