- Many of you have probably been to or through Dubai in recent years and most of you have likely seen a video on You Tube that featured a flight in/out of Dubai... On the other hand few of your likely travelled to or through Dubai 20 years ago but thanks to our older videos we can now give you a look at what the scene was back in those days... Here a short sample, the full 2 hour video has more than 100 airlines and about 220 aircraft and can be found at www.justplanes.com/ClassicAirp...

As time flies by more and more of these old videos are becoming collectors items as just about all those airplanes are history by now and some of the airlines are too. In this case the change over in the UAE has been huge going from very classic airplanes to the most modern… Tomorrow I’ll post some Sharjah traffic where the selection is far more classic than Dubai!
JustPlanes very nice

JustPlanes
I just found a video you posted in 2013 with some common scenes (the guy guiding the parking, for example), some different ones, but mostly the same planes, even if sometimes in different angles. It says the scenes are from 1996. Which year was this, after all?
Tat tym Star aeroplane was Gulf Air
The 747 is the most beautiful piece of art ever! Timeless even after 20 years!
In 1998 Dubai Airport was a small airport with 12-15 million passengers per year and now is the 3rd most busiest in the world with 90 million passengers per year. Also Emirates was a Small Gulf airline with 9 million passengers per year and now carries 60 million passengers.Excellent Dubai!
The legendary DC 10 McDonnell Douglas of biman Bangladesh airline was looks superb!!!!
I haven’t seen american and european airlines, most arabic and african and many asian arlines. It’s amazing how much changed Dubai in 20 years. Many countries as Mine has several centuries and we can’t see Good changes yet.
Wooow !
That was time... A lot of diferent looking birds at one place. Now, all planes look almost same.
Thank you very much for this great video !
DodoSkydrums The Planes Made another step, they found the best structure to this time and they make them now all the same...
Good
Back then I must have been only 8 or 9 years old but I remember vividly the excitement when I traveled Dubai Airport back then. It was truly a marvel. Flying was exciting back then, no smart phone so you either were fortunate enough to have an onboard entertainment system or just talk to the person next to you or read a book (No smartphones)
Also sad to see Aero Asia go bankrupt, was a good airline overall. Also PIA used to have some standard back then (Of course mismanagement ruined it)
03:28 wonderful... Peace to both countries
Nice to watch how was the dubai airport in 1998 😃😃 thank you to bring a video.
Wow, Dubai has changed so much in 20 years, imagine the next 20 years.
Looking like thay will go back to 1998
@@shanawaz673 ?
The Malaysia Airlines 777-200ER was still very new. So beautiful
Sam Fu 223222 2$$$333343$$$$
was also oprating dubai-JFK three times weekly
Same paint job as today too.
Actually, still new for this day. Too bad, they retired them too quickly.
Fanciest plane in this video tbh
1998 was my 16th year working as a flight attendant. Also flying to DXB I can still remember the old airport.
Everything was pretty small then and it was more like an airfield in the dessert, but it had a real local touch compared to today, where all major airports around the globe look the same.
Globalisation and it´s disadvantages.
in august 78, when i first landed in dubai, it was only one building, on the right it was entering passengers, and left it was for exit passengers, in between it was counters, immigration etc, buses with open windows and doors were blowing hot air in your faces with + - 48 degrees, and mostly in the day time, pakistani, indian, iranian and mostly gulf air aeroplanes can been in the skies, but at night time trans oceans flights linking far east with europe/africa etc can be seen, but mostly these were technical stopovers for refuelling, change of crews etc, but now any city and country can envy for huge huplifts
Aug 78?
Manila Flyer I think me means August 1978
Ali Liaqat ygggf
Yes
Manila Flyer august 1978
A310s, 727s, DC10s, the whole lot! Truly reminiscent of the late-90s. And to think that MH's 772 (5:15) used to be the most modern type when the video was shot. Wow!
Back when Emirates wasn’t the luxury it is today
Wow, that Emirates terminal was under construction in 1998! Cool!
That was just amazing. Wonderful liveries and lovely planes. You can see the humble beginnings of the A6 planes. Thank you.
A7 as well
Fascinating, back in the early 90's, my uncle who was then the Airport Services Manager would take me to the airside to watch these birds. I would look forward to the Airshow every 4 years, where I would skip school and watch the Red Arrows take to the skies over Deira.
Very cool time travelling, very different and very familiar back then. Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Air India, Volga Dnepr basically had the same paint scheme they have today.
love pia 747 200 and a310 i was travelled alot in 2000 to 2004
I’m genuinely surprised at the number of 727s in the vid. I had the impression that they would’ve been long phased out and replaced by MD-90s and 737s by ‘98
If I was living back in those days and knew the technology that there is now, how many crashes, accidents, people died, and how much money, effort and time people have put on the development of aerial transportation, I wouldn't believe it.
Aviation is one of the most important, exciting and wonderful thing humans have ever invented.
Old is gold ❤️✨
i watched this video and felt motivated.
my friends saw this video and felt motivated.
my neighbours saw this and were motivated.
we rent a projector in a big field and my village people saw this and felt motivated.
thank you so much for this video. may god bless you🙂
Wow,Dubai Has Really Changed !
Irish Transport but still all these Airline still go to Dubai Airport
@@tree3y763 yeah. This is the first time that I realized that the concourse terminals at DXB were still under construction in 1998.
This is absolutely Gold !
Really enjoyed some "retro" spotting 👍
😍😍 fascinating 🧐 Thank you so much for your amazing content I am 9 years old and deeply in love with old aviation keep up the good Work 😍🥰
5:14, wow a 777 in 1998, that’s plane must have been at most 3 years old or younger
Young very young
This was a wonderful look into past history and the planes and airlines that used to fly. Very interesting if I may say so. Thanks for posting.
3:05 worlds last passenger DC-10 (Biman Bangladesh Airlines) 3:58 take off
Back in those days i used to live near the airport and would rush towards the balcony to see these magnificent machines land its soo strange that after years passed away and you still miss these memorable moments
Some of these airlines don't exist anymore. Fascinating to see them in this video!
Thank you for this amazing video! Very impressive what kind of aircraft are still flying at that time
This is really precious content, thank you. I’m really interested in Dubai’s development and respect it so much. By the way, I’m going to go to Spain soon on Emirates and am looking forward to seeing Dubai international airport and it’s high developed metropolitan city centre from the sky when my airplane approaches.
0:15 Aero Asia 😍😍😍 Reminds me of my childhood.
From A310s to a fleet of nothing but A380s and 777s for Emirates, insane!
9996039714
also witha a300s in their fleet but by 1996 the 777-200/ER joined
@@Lee247Jamaica And a few 727’s and a leased 737-300 from PIA into their 2nd year before returning it
I flew for the first time in 1998 with my parents on an Air India flight. Wow... 20yrs?. It seems just like yesterday. :)
Sad how PIA is destroyed now, PIA was not only the pride of Pakistan but it's the one who trained the Emirates
Yes you are right
i have strong believe PIA will be #1 again in future In sha Allah !
lol
Wa Va hehehe pride !!!!!!!!
Wa Va bcoz there are people who get mony from out to distroy
Wow, So good to see these classics!
Thanks for the video JustPlanes. So many different types!☺️
Amazing video man. Brings tears to my eyes. That was that last few years flying was fun. Before that horrible incident happened. Was heart warmed to see some old PIA.
You like PIA?
@@danknade not so much these days lol its just a budget crap carrier 90s wasn't special either but it certinally wasn't as bad as it now. Not that I was alive but the airline was a completely different model in the 50-70s.
@@majorskies7091 PIA used to be number 1 back in the 70s its sad to see how bad it has become because of government corruptions

Happy to see old Bangladesh airline ❤❤
I am sure the pilots would keep these memories in their heart forever.
Back to the future. Thank you for your video very interesting.
Not a single airline from Europe and Amrica
Only Asian, Middle Eastern airlines and from these continents the people played vital part in the development.
saad iftikhar the second aircraft shown is based from Luxemburg
You know why? Dubai isn't that popular that days
That is a cargo plane. Cargolux
Kenya Airways is African too
And still no airlines from America
Lots of interesting old aircrafts here. Great footage
Absolutely fantastic Video. I love it. I keep watching this again and again.
I have Liked and Subscribed.
One of the best video iv ever seen.👍🏻
The good ole A300, A310 and 727's. I really miss those birds
Yeah me too
You can still fly the a310 with air transat, I have done it!
I still see A310 on a regular basis
Wade Higgins
Lots of 727s
Yeah but those 727 were noise makers. Whats funnier is that i hear that back in the 70s the 727 were actually louder? LOL
Had That Time... But Now This Era Dubai Has So Much Developed... Dubai Live And Streets Are just Amazing 💕
Before That Time Airport And Now This Era's Airport So Much Differenc
Wow this was such a treat :) i was looking forward to seeing Nepal Airlines formerly known as Royal Nepal Airlines boeing 757 also in this video of dubai airport.. 20 years ago... But anyways all the other airlines and aircrafts are wonderful in retro classic liveries 😊👍💺✈ thank you Just Planes 🙏☺
2:36 takeoff smoothest ever
3:37 wow AIR INDIA PIA AND EMIRATES together
and Iran Air...
@Marcell Unreal Well... India and pakistan have a very intense political and cultural rivalry... So... Its wierd seeing AI and PIA side by side
@@atharvabendre973 lol what the hell
You can still find AI and PIA stand together in the Airports of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London etc , heck even in Delhi airport because one PIA ATR PK270 still operates to Delhi from Lahore
@@abbassahibole1579 bro you don't know pakistan and india are enimies
THE BEST 😂😂😂
Yep, I have this VHS, one of my favourites. I like the scene where the cabin crew of a Royal Nepal 757 are disembarking across the ramp to a waiting bus, when one of the cute hostesses, hams it up for the cameraman. Love to get these 100+ VHS tapes transferred to a thumb drive or some other form of current portable media.
Before the Emirates monopoly. There were more international planes there than entire Emirates fleet. Who would've imagined. You can see the new terminal under construction.
Biman DC-10. Pride of Bangladesh. 777-300er is also doing great now.
Air India Pakistan Emirates and Malaysia way ahead of others in that time also!!!
Nice beautiful planes😍😍😍😍
Absolutely fantastic creation of human being
That's quite a variety of aircraft here!
Great collection of tri-jets. Thanks for posting 👍
Back then Dubai's airport wasn't filled with Emirates Airlines
Sandro Tabidze and the A380s

Bon, pas vraiment. Il y avait beaucoup des guerres
Have you heard of WW2...
The human population was about two and a quarter billion less at the time.
Yeh u can see yemen iran syrian airlines
In 1985, Emirates was backed by Dubai Royal Family and PIA with two aircrafts and training provided to cabin crews by PIA academy.
I am a UAE born. Really missing those birds now. Especially Aero asia and Bhoja Air
Lovely classics!
The era of 03 and 04 engines aircrafts !

Been going to Dubai & using airport since 70s, I have seen the real change from a little single terminal airport to massive large hub what it is now. But when I go to Dubai city, its definitely not the city where I lived for a short while as a child.

Crazy how many tri-jets were kicking around 20 years ago.
That's really quite beautiful!
3:30 Ha ha. Nice to see PIA and Air India next each other.
Also funny in a way for PIA to be next emirates. (PIA jump started that arline).
On a bright October morning 30 years ago, a plane left Dubai for Karachi, and Emirates airline was born. On board were royal dignitaries and VIPs from across the UAE.
Three planes bearing the first insignia of the young airline took flight that day - the others heading for Mumbai and Delhi.
One of the pilots was Pakistani Ejaz ul Haq.
PIA, as well as providing training facilities for Emirates’ first staff members, also leased the company two aircraft. Source: www.thenational.ae/uae/remembering-emirates-first-flights-30-years-on-1.635565
PIA is now at its lowest sadly
