@@PerfectAlibi1 It doesn't necessarily have to have been on the first date, by the way, Jack had to give something in exchange for the compass, who knows were some sexual favors hahaha
“Four of you have tried to kill me in the past, one of you succeeded” Yeah Jack is kinda sick of everyone just coming for him because they need him for something, it’s not that they miss him or that they WANT him back, it’s that they need him to do something for them, and of course Jack is sick of having to be the charitable one Oh sure, he does a lot of things for himself, but that’s only because he does so much for everyone else and they never repay the favour FOUR of them tried to kill Jack, ONE of them actually succeeded and suddenly he’s expected to believe they actually give a shit about him? No, he knew that unless they needed something from him they wouldn’t have come Even better is when he asks if anyone went to save him because they missed him, because that’s when he finds the people who actually give even the slightest shit about him and so he stands over with them, because screw being around people who only need him, he’d rather be around people who would stick their necks on the line for him, as he’s done for them Jack is an amazing captain and a kind man, but there’s a limit to one’s hospitality before they get sick of it all and just say “Screw you guys, I’m doing my own thing” and Jack willingly returned to the Pearl, even with the intention of FIGHTING THE KRAKEN for all of them and they only went to Davy Jones’ Locker because they NEEDED him So it’s become quite obvious that Jack enjoys the crew of the Interceptor in the first movie because they actually like and care about him
I love this character. Such a crazy weirdo every other character hates. Yet he is so adventurous that he literally returned from the land of the death because they needed him.
*FUN FACT:* At 0:36, that is the one and only time in the original trilogy where Barbossa's first name is mentioned. We could not have known otherwise before that just by watching the movies. Johnny Depp was the one who proposed the name, on set of the first film, although it is never mentioned there. It only appeared on the DVD commentary, and writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio originally thought it was fan-made when they saw it on the internet, but decided to use it anyway.
I like to think that Davy Jones is just like Jack when he was a mortal man before he became cruel, and that one reason he’s pissed at Jack because he reminds him of who he used to be and that Jack’s hitting on the woman he loved xD,
@@firestrikerii810yes he did. Sent Will onto the Dutchman, lied to Elizabeth about it to use the compass, and nearly left them at the mercy of the Kraken. And this was after Will risked his life to save Jack from an execution and got put in Beckett’s crosshairs. Not saying Jack doesn’t do good, but that doesn’t mean much when you are constantly screwing with people. They don’t treat him well because he does not treat them well.
Wasn't the compass right, actually? They had to go down at sunset, but a compass can't point down so it spins in circles because it tries to point downwards. Right....?
Wannes Roggemans It's similar to the way a traditional compass reacts when at the centre of Magnetic North, you cannot progress anymore forwards since you are where you need to be, thus the compass would be unstable as magnetic currents would head downwards our planets core being the cause of the magbetic forces in the first place, thank you gravity.
RKBock You're right, a regular compass at magnetic north wouldn't do anything. But Jack's compass was indeed trying to point down by spinning in circles.

@@antoinenonier5936 Tia Dalma tried to do so in some sort of sexual encounter with Jack. Jack did apparently enjoy it at the time, but I guess afterwards he did feel he might not have liked almost being killed.
My favorite line in the film is in this scene. After Elisabeth confronts Jack about them really being there. Jack *runs over to Gibbs* turns to him: “The Locker you say?”.
"Four of you tried to kill me in the past, one of you succeeded." Barbosa: Left Jack for dead on an island, then there's the entire events of the first movie. Will: Sword fought Jack twice. First to stop him from escaping, then to take the heart of Davey Jones. Tia Dalma: I don't know and something tells me I don't wanna know. Elizabeth: Fed Jack to the Kraken. Somehow the only person to succeed in killing Jack, even if by proxy.
I love how Jack figured out that it wasn't a hallucination as soon as he saw Elizabeth because his face immediately went, "oh shit. This is real because she actually killed me."
That line at 1:13, “Q.E.D.” I have no idea what it means, itfeels strange and modern, but at the same time rather fitting for someone like Jack to say.
It's the initials of the Latin phrase _"quod erat demonstrandum"_ , meaning "what was to be shown". Jack is questioning Will being there for reasons other than to ask for his help in saving Elizabeth, because "what was to be shown" is that both times Will has come to Jack it was because of Elizabeth, so in Jack's mind Will can't be there because he doesn't need his help. It's a very roundabout and complex joke, but it adds to Jack's character about what he thinks about the people in his life, he kinda generalizes them , or at least Will specifically. As for how modern the phrase is, the entire phrase goes all the way to ancient Greece, but the use of the initials Q.E.D in reference to the Latin phrase has been dated back in the late 1600s, which works great for this movie because POTC is suppose to be set in the early to mid 1700s.

I know that feeling. Jack can't trust anyone but himself. He has no friends but associates and a crew. So he's right about everyone he knows hates his guts. . Barbossa only needs Jack's piece of eight. .Will made a deal with Sol Feng only to give Jack to him alive, so Will can take over the Pearl to rescue Bootstrap. . Elizabeth only tagged along to be with Will. . And I don't know about the rest of the crew.
Regarding Elizabeth, she went along not only to follow Will, but (more importantly in my eyes) because she was feeling a good bit of remorse for killing Jack. She was basically in pieces at the end of the 2nd movie, so much in fact that Will though she fell in love with jack and was sad because he "chose" to stay on the Pearl to fight that big squid. Also sorry for the LATE reply lol, just finished a POTC marathon
For all of you pointing out that even his own crew only came because they needed something, I would like to remind you of the parts in CotBP that deal with the fact that one "Can be a pirate and a good person". Thus it is reasonable to think that Gibbs and that lot might legit care for Jack.
Barbossa's "Jaaaaack" is always satisfying to hear. 🤣 Also, it's hilarious to me. Rigetti looked so hurt when Jack said that he scares him. Then he and Pintel both look so salty about being excluded in that last shot.

They didn’t just risk their lives to save him they needed him for something. Elizabeth needed to do something about her guilty conscience, Will wanted to find his dad, and Barbosa needed the heart, the crew just wanted to live.
@@JustLikeAFlowerbarbossa needed the heart? Why I don't remember a scene where he made that clear. He wanted to free Calypso so he needed Jacks piece of eight thats what I thought.

This happened offscreen. XD

“Four of you have tried to kill me in the past, one of you succeeded”
Yeah Jack is kinda sick of everyone just coming for him because they need him for something, it’s not that they miss him or that they WANT him back, it’s that they need him to do something for them, and of course Jack is sick of having to be the charitable one
Oh sure, he does a lot of things for himself, but that’s only because he does so much for everyone else and they never repay the favour
FOUR of them tried to kill Jack, ONE of them actually succeeded and suddenly he’s expected to believe they actually give a shit about him? No, he knew that unless they needed something from him they wouldn’t have come
Even better is when he asks if anyone went to save him because they missed him, because that’s when he finds the people who actually give even the slightest shit about him and so he stands over with them, because screw being around people who only need him, he’d rather be around people who would stick their necks on the line for him, as he’s done for them
Jack is an amazing captain and a kind man, but there’s a limit to one’s hospitality before they get sick of it all and just say “Screw you guys, I’m doing my own thing” and Jack willingly returned to the Pearl, even with the intention of FIGHTING THE KRAKEN for all of them and they only went to Davy Jones’ Locker because they NEEDED him
So it’s become quite obvious that Jack enjoys the crew of the Interceptor in the first movie because they actually like and care about him
Damn, this is long. But his anger towards them is valid.
I love how will then stares at her like wtf did you do how did you kill him

*FUN FACT:* At 0:36, that is the one and only time in the original trilogy where Barbossa's first name is mentioned. We could not have known otherwise before that just by watching the movies. Johnny Depp was the one who proposed the name, on set of the first film, although it is never mentioned there. It only appeared on the DVD commentary, and writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio originally thought it was fan-made when they saw it on the internet, but decided to use it anyway.
0:50 That moment when Jack makes a goddess nervous.

To be fair, Barbosa marooned him twice and stabbed him before Jack shot him.
1:00 this is a perfect representation of Jack's mental state. He genuinely doesn't believe that he has even a single friend amongst that entire group.
He shouldn’t. They are a bunch of pirates. I love how even when they all need each other they still don’t trust each other.
Because he doesn’t really treat them like friends either
I was surprised no one proved they weren't a hallucination by just sucker-punching Jack.
"Why should I sail with any'o you? Four of you've tried to kill me in the past, one of you succeeded."
Y'know, Jack has some solid reasoning here.
He really did
Wasn't the compass right, actually?
They had to go down at sunset, but a compass can't point down so it spins in circles because it tries to point downwards. Right....?
Wannes Roggemans That... Actually makes a lot of sense
GlyntTheCat yeah, something like that
+GlyntTheCat
1) nothing to do with gravity.
2) it wouldn't spin. unfortunatelly, a compass at the magnetic north pole would jsut stand still.
RKBock
You're right, a regular compass at magnetic north wouldn't do anything.
But Jack's compass was indeed trying to point down by spinning in circles.

When Jack asks Gibbs if he's really in Davy Jones' locker, and then rubs his brow like "oh god...." when Gibbs says yes.
Every single conversation in this clip is remarkable...
My favorite line in the film is in this scene. After Elisabeth confronts Jack about them really being there. Jack *runs over to Gibbs* turns to him: “The Locker you say?”.

He was quick in letting Gibbs come with him and never aimed at him during the gun match not long later
