Great video as always.they are due to demolish York house the large flat in the heart of Thorpe edge in Bradford. This as been the centre of our estate since the houses was built and is due for demolition in the next month or so and likely via controlled explosive but will be a sad day for us. It was be nice if you could cover it and it's history too if ok. It has some terrible tragedy's happen too over the years and has housed many local families for the last 60 years or so
I remember the day of the demolition as we had been out for the day and drive back through the centre. Everything was covered in dust! I'm also pretty sure that despite the proximity of so many buildings close by the only damage was a single broken window to the rear of a property on Sunbridge Road. When Santander took over Abbey National part of the deal was they kept a presence in Bradford as the original home of Provincial Building Society, which became National Provincial following a takeover of Burnley Building Soc. Hence the new smaller building on the Interchange.
As I said on the last *Bradford Through the Lens* video I watched months ago, you can see those subways in the *Screen Two* episode *Criminal* from 1994, which is incorrectly listed as a 1995 film by its writer on RUclips. The lead actor *Paul Popplewell* from *Hull* is sells *Telegraph & Argus'* in there, just like I remember.
Remember tyrrel street used to catch my bus there, was a real shame to distroy those iconic buildings, the empress had fantastic architecture & had some great shops, saxone shoes on the corner, the wool shop, chadwicks, collinsons cafe & the machanics institute, etc, also the kirkgate market was distroyd, glad the men involved got time for back handers but it doesn't bring it back, they want to leave our heritage alone.
I remember this well. In the early hours of that morning id got arrested (walked past the industrial estate on Cutler Heights Lane early hours of the morning after a night out, a unit in there had been burgled, cops jumped on me, later released without charge) and no sooner had i been booked into the cells of the old bridewell than we were evacuated. We were put in Sweatboxes and the other prisoners were shouting at each other (last thing i needed with what was becoming a massive hangover) and taken to Eccleshill police station and back. I could see the rubble out of the little square window when we got back.
A lot of Bradfords history has been lost. I lived there from 1985 until about 2008 and I remember the Royal Standard pub, of great historical value to the city was raised to the ground as it was in the way of the Hamme Strasse ring road. Forster Square station also lost and was a steel box for a number if years until they built it in stone. Still ugly

Hi,
I think it was mentioned in the T&A recently.
I will have a look into it and see if it's possible.
Appreciate your suggestion. Thank you.
It's all but gone now😢😢😢😢

Really enjoy your videos! Do you know anything about Bierley Cemetery and the large number of headstones that appear to have been removed?
Interesting.

Such a shame to lose such a beautiful street , that happened in Tamworth also .

It’s also a tragedy that the people who make these stupid decisions are never brought to account.

What a great video. Such a shame those lovely old buildings were sacrificed to a modernist monolith, that was so quickly unfit for purpose.
Thank you
Interesting film, thank you. I seem to rememer ther Forster Square subways had blue mosaic, must have been cheap as it was all the rage.

They stopped calling it modernist when they discovered it wasn't working, in the mid-80s. These days it's called Brutalist.
Bradford must be the best city in England to. Make a continuous effort to destroy our heritage, history and pride

Beautiful buildings destroyed its a real shame as we will never get em back 😢😮

When are you going to cover the demolition of Bradford interchange
You think it will happen?
@@BradfordThroughTheLens most likely yes do a poll on it and see what rest of your viewers think
@@stephenB-yq9kw Good idea
It was a beautiful street , what a disgrace !!!
Gosh, womdsr what the birds thought of all of this ?
Was it a Labour idea to " regenerate" Bradford in the late 60's ?
Wouldn't surprise me
Maybe talk to Mark about how his vanity project, the former odeon has failed.
