Darius is crazy talented. His voice is so clear and smooth.
He started his music career as the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish, and then transitioned into country music. I saw Hootie at a small club in Pittsburgh just before they hit nationally, and I was blown away at how good they sounded.
Oh I love Darius Rucker's voice!
The sound you heard on "headlights" is called a "vocal fry".
Darius was the lead singer of Hootie and Blowfish! He's an awesome artist and has a ton of great songs. Glad you found him!
No wayyyyy!! They have a lot great songs that I've heard before! Didn't put those 2 together
He still is lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish.
‘Let Her Cry’ …Hootie
Headlights....The Word You are looking for is COUNTRY!
He’s got a great voice for country. He was great with Hootie and the Blowfish. I really like his voice, and really like this song. There are so many sun styles within country music. Some songs have enough twang in them to make you turn around and expect to see a cow. This is a real feel-good country song.
This was a fun one Eric!
@@generationgapreacts Indeed it was! Correction to typo: I meant to type sub styles, not sun styles.
Darius is such an incredible talent, from his days with Hootie and the Blowfish to his country solo career. I read that when he first began his country solo career, he was hounded mercilessly by racists because there were few black singers in country. He even got death threats. Darius handled it all with class and answered back with a slew of amazing hit songs.
Love your reactions! I hope you'll do a few reactions to Darious with Hootie and the Blowfish.
"he did something with his voice when he said headlights"
southern accent lol
He's wonderful. "Hey mama rock me." This is a good one for a group sing-a-long. You just have to listen to some Hootie and the Blowfish. I call it college or garage rock, but Darius and all the band are emotional and mesmerizing. "Let Her Cry" is just great. I was lucky enough to see them in the 90's. BTW, I call it a "cry" or "break" in his voice.
Actually, this is a song co-written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show. Dylan recorded the chorus in 1973; Secor added verses 25 years later. Old Crow Medicine Show's final version was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in April 2013. This version came out after OCMS. Give the Old Crow version a try, it's a bit more folksy/Americana.
It's called a "cry" in music when you inflect your voice like in the word "headlight". It can be very distinct or very subtle. Here, it's a bit on the subtle side but still there. It's a way to project emotion. Darius is a great singer in several genres and can sing pop and blues as well as country. A lot of good country music explores some very serious topics. There are so many that it's tough to even start a list. Try Vince Gill, Martina McBride, George Straight, Alan Jackson, Zach Brown Band, Dolly Parten (the queen herself), Patty Loveless, Little Big Town, and the list goes on. By the way, many country music songs ARE cheesy and we fans like them for that cheesiness. But, most of us also realize they are cheesy and for fun.
Most "Non Country" people have absolutely no idea what makes a country song. Trust me, We know who you are. You tell us everytime somebody complains about country music... There is not a person, alive or not, who does not have a country song that will read like their life story. And if there is one country song that tells the story of your life, there are hundreds more...
If you want to hear some country fire... Check out Chris Stapelton, "Tennessee Whiskey". Then consider that the song is a cover of a David Allen Coe recording from 1981.
Another real country song.... Jamey Johnson, "In Color".
That voice though!!! So velvety smooth 💕 also look at Chris Stapleton Tennessee Whiskey
Oh you ladies have to listen to his songs, he is a very talented singer. I have his cd and I love it.
And remember a violin in country music is called a fiddle!!
Ha. I remember reading in a Rolling Stone article decades ago with Charlie Daniels and he said something akin to, "You put a violin in a case; you put a fiddle in a knap sack!" LOL
It’s called falsetto sing but he falsettos and tunes it back to normal in the same word to give it a nice accent. Damn good song
I played "I'm Going Home" for my Mom at her funeral, sang by Darius when he was with Hootie and the Blowfish. He emotes soooo much in his early music that it helped me get through her death then my gf's death 5 months later. Darius would never know, but he and the band Candlebox saved my life in a time where I did not want it anymore....
This is a Bob Dylan song, re-done by Old Crow Medicine Show then again by Darius Rucker. Where Darius gave it a country feel Old Crow gave it an old times folk feel. They all did great jobs on it though.
I live in Johnson City, Tennessee! Great tune!
I find a lot of people who “don’t like country” have a rigid idea of what country music is. But the truth is that there are many different sounds that are shoved under that label and chances are you can find something you love given a chance.
This was me until I heard Sweetheart of the Rodeo
A country song many mothers and daughters love is “I Hope you Dance” by Lee Ann Womack
I'm not a huge country fan either, but your respect for Darius Rucker and the vibe of this song was wonderful. I really enjoyed your clapping toward the end also! Another great reaction!
Thank you Thomas!
You should try reacting to “Tennessee whiskey” (by chris stapleton) “one man band” (old dominion) or “try losing one” they all have good vocals
@@eyepain4992 I love love that song! I can literally listen to that song 10 times in a row. We will definitely react to it soon, very soon. Thank you! 😃
We’ll check out the others songs too! 😃
@@generationgapreacts Please react to BTS leader RM's new song 'Wildflower' from his album INDIGO! The entire album is a masterpiece and the song is very beautiful and moving 💜 💜
North Carolina , Dogwood ( state tree), Raleigh ( state Capitol). The writers must have had a connect with NC.
And Johnson City, TENNESSEE!
Baby Girl was feeling that music!!!!!!!
I think the music is actually Bluegrass!
Love that the Duck Dynasty guys are in this video.
More random thoughts...sometimes the soul of the music captures you no matter what genre people think it fits in. To me, Darius has that kind of cross-over voice. That sweet baritone is full and gorgeous. I'm going to pop on "Cracked Rear View" and try to get ready for some sleep. Thanks guys!!!
This song was written by the great Bob Dylan. Done best by Old Crow Medicine Show. Darius does it justice, too.
Got another country suggestion for you. Chris Stapleton with Tennessee Whiskey. It's country with soul.
That's the Robertson family from Duck Dynasty and Justin Timberlake and his wife.
that lil dip you heard in "headlights" is called a yodel
Good show. Both Olivia Newton John and Linda Ronstadt started out with country music. Both recorded Bob Dylan songs .Olivia with If Not For You , her first hit and Linda recorded several. One being I'll Be Your Baby Tonight....you will need a drink to go along with that song.
Some good country to start with are Chris Stapleton "Tennessee Whiskey" Alan Jackson "Remember When" Luke Combs "Beautiful Crazy"
These are just a few of my favorites
It’s a standard for all the bands at weddings in Scotland.
Usually played 4th last
Just before Loch Lomond
Then Flower of Scotland
Then Auld lang syne
The Saddle Rack in San Jose California? My cousin has a band called "The California Cowboys" and they played at "The Rack" from the mid 80's to the early 2010's to when the club was in Fremont. Yep... The Rack is one of my old stomping grounds. Unfortunately, The Saddle Rack closed in 2020, killed by Covid.
You two are in for a ride...love stories, feeling and emotions to music! (Not my genre either)!
He was in the biggest band in the world for a few yrs. I mean hootie and the blowfish had a huge following in their prime.
Also, this is a cover of an Old Crow Medicine Show song co-written by Bob Dylan✌️
Darius Rucker used to be lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish
I sometimes wonder what peoples experience of country music is.
Country music has some of the best story telling of any genre.
The fellas with the beards who picked Darius up in the trucks are members of the Robertson family of Duck Dynasty. Uncle Si was the first one Willie was the next one and I believe Jase was the bouncer. Their wives were in there too. Duck Dynasty is a series on TV based on the Daddy Phil Robertson who invented a duck call and became a millionaire. 👍✌️🤔
The first time I heard this song I knew who Darius Rucker was but as I sat and listened I thought that sounds like a bob Dylan cadence. Amazing how he still pops up everywhere.
I've heard this song before. I really like it. Thanks for playing This song. Hi from Marilyn
I’ve always liked the way he says ‘headlights’ too! If you ever react to The Load Out by Jackson Browne, Jackson does the same thing halfway thru the song
This is such a great song,. I'm loving this sound & beat. 🎶🎶👍👍🥰. This has nothing to do with this song ,. But sweetie. You look so much like Maurice Gibb,s daughter. Samantha Gibb.👍🥰🥰. Your so pretty just like her.🌹🌹
That's a very nice thought Carol. Sammy is extraordinary. Hope you are doing well.
Hootie! haven't heard this before. That's a bit of a yodel where pitch is quickly shifted, not bragg'n (yes I am), could do do a fairy good yodel at one time. "But he's a-headin' west from the Cumberland Gap"- that will be Middlesboro, Kentucky😁
His Music is like Country Rock!!!
Hi... this is a great cover...the original is by “old crow medicine show” they have a great video...
This song was a cover of the Old Crow Medicine Show from 1973. Was co- written by Bob Dylan. Was not a country song then...of course Darrius wasn't always a country artist either. Was the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish.
His first country song was Let Her Cry in my opinion
Wow. Funny you should review Darius. We both graduated from Middleton High School 1984 in Charleston SC. Although we didn't "hang out", we shared several classes. Back then he was more into playing quarterback for our football team, the Razorbacks. I also recall he was in band, which is probably where he discovered his second love, music. I recall that he didn't ride the bus because his house was within a mile to school. Furthermore, I believe that his mother still lives in the same house. After graduation he went to USC and then the whole Hootie and The Blowfish thing exploded. Fast forward to about 10y ago, the Mayor, Joseph Riley Jr presented him with a key to the City and a street was officially named after him due to all his contributions and continuous love for our city. He's like a local hero--everyone loves him here. I'm proud to be one of his high school classmates.
Good song
HOOTIE!!!
Love your reactions gorgeous ladies. You do realize that this is Hoodie from hootie the and the blowfish. Anyways he’s awesome
His original group, Hootie and the Blowfish, is INCREDIBLE. Any song you want is great.
He has many great songs, try "It's alright".... Thank you for going to country! If you want a blues country vibe try Brooks and Dunn's song, "Believe". You will love the tenderness and beauty of the lyrics and video. True story for singer.
I wish you would also react to some of his stuff from 'Hootie & the Blowfish.' "Let Her Cry" and "Hold My Hand" are 2 of my favorites they did.
Darius was the lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish before his solo career!! Cracked Rear View was their breakout album and it’s amazing from beginning to end!! Some country artists to check out: Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Eric Church, George Strait, Keith Urban!
He used to be the lead singer of Hootie and the blowfish
John Anderson "Siminole wind"
I think of this song as more country / rock than pure country .. Either way, it's a ripper ! .. I've done a lot of rock' n 'roll dancing and whenever this song was played the floor would quickly fill and people would really enjoy it .. And yes, that little "cry" in the voice ( such as you highlighted on "headlights" ) is quite common in country and country cross-over music .. Great, fun reaction, ladies !
You really need to start with Hottie and the Blowfish first. You will realize that Darius was meant to sing country. His voice is different than most people that makes him stand out. He has a number of great country hits.
Duck Dynasty, BABY!!
What he did was a cry. On the headlight
Talking about the Saddle Rack you must be from the San Jose, Ca area. I grew up in that area too.
If you decide to checkout more country, I really recommend George Strait, AKA: "The King Of Country". He’s an amazing artist that I grew up on with some AMAZING songs. Some I recommend are "The Chair", "Baby Blue", "The Cowboy Rides Away", "I Cross My Heart", "Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye", "I Can Still Make Cheyenne", and by far my favorite George Strait song of all time, "You Look So Good In Love". (It’s a lot I know, but almost all his songs are amazing😅)
Just open the door to country and we will come in. ❤😊Do u recognize the guys from Duck Dynasty.
ruclips.net/video/etr7UtnUflM/видео.html "Alright" ruclips.net/video/ap7HzFlOXq4/видео.html "Come Back Song" ruclips.net/video/y5zCaRaJ-kE/видео.html "It Won't Be Like This For Long" 😪 ruclips.net/video/3HsYNUUl9MM/видео.html " Don't Think I Don't Think About It" this guy is a superstar!! Also is credited for getting Edwin McCain signed check out his voice ,he and Darius did a song "Solitude" ( Edwin wrote)
Try Alan Jackson, George Strait, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker, Kathy Mattea, Tim McGraw, Gretchen Wilson, or Pam Tillis for some good country singers. There are others but those are the ones off the top of my head. I don't know why I'm bothering, I'm not patreon so I don't really matter to you as far as my thoughts and opinions.
Should react to seven Spanish angels by Willie Nelson and Ray Charles
NF The Search, you will be amazed
Great reaction! You should check out “Hurt” by Johnny Cash, originally sung by Nine Inch Nails!! It was Johnny’s last song.
You need to try Alan Jackson especially remember when
"Let Her Cry" is a must by Bootie and the Blowfish with Darius singing lead. 🥴👍✌️🤔
Great first choice. If you want to be deeply moved by a country singer, listen to Johnny Cash singing "Hurt." It was recorded near the end of his life and even though it was originally a Nine Inch Nails song, it feels as if it was written for Cash. Definitely want to see the video with this one - I'm not a huge music video fan, but this one is a genuine work of art that adds extra meaning to the performance.
After Trent Reznor watched the video for a second time, that's when he told his family and friends that the song Hurt is no longer his but belongs to Mr. Cash. It brings me to tears; therefore, I don't think that Mom and Daughter will be reacting to it. Their mantra on this channel is to share uplifting positive happy music with us. It won't pass the Litmus test for that style of music.
I think you may like "A good run of bad luck " by Clint Black.
If your gonna listen to country, then you need to listen to King George. Marina Del Rey is a great starting point .
There are different types of country music. Because country music was made up of different types of music. Such as blues, Bluegrass, gospel, Rockabilly ect. So please give it a chance.
If you ever react to Hootie and the Blowfish, please check out the song, "I Only Want To Be With You"
SOOOOO happy you are doing country now. Start with George Jones, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson!! Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette on the ladies side. They are ALL legends. Ya'll have got to go down the Home Free rabbit hole. They are an a-cappella group, Mostly country but the do everything. They also won The Sing-off on NBC the forth year. They are fantastic. NO musical instruments. All done with the voice.
Ladies I could definitely give you a list of artists and songs, Welcome to the Country Music genre, Country artists tell a story and their are many great songs and artists, welcome down this rabbit hole! Also Country artists have great voices
Martina McBride is a great singer Gods will, independence day concrete angel(but sad)
Since you're just starting in county the one I'm suggesting might be a bit too much too soon but when you get a chance check out Forever Country, amazing video and fantastic stars from the past and present.
Hi Ladies... I bet you actually have heard Darius before, but you knew him as the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish! 🙂 He decided to start singing country songs maybe 10 years ago now.
If you read this you might like Locash "One big country song".
Luke Combs - Beautiful Crazy, Doing this
I think of this as more folk or Americana than pure country. But in any case, this song has been covered by many. Try the Old Crow Medicine Show's version, too. There's an interesting story about how the writing of this song evolved, too
Check out some Toby Keith and throw prayers... stomach cancer. I also like The Band Perry and Little Big Town
Another band that makes a great introduction into country music is "The Band"...I would suggest starting with "The Weight" ruclips.net/video/q-w9OclUnns/видео.html
What about Cripple Creek ? 🙂
What about "It Makes No Difference"?
I absolutely love The Band. Now between them and Home Free, I would have all the music need to listen to. 'Unfaithful Servant', 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down', and 'Tears of Rage' are among my favorites. I forgot so many other great ones. Too many to count.
I would you to react to June & Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire), The Dixie Chicks, Patsy Cline, Shania Twain, Sarah MacLachlan, Gordon Lightfoot - the list goes on & on.
Would love to see you guys react to Eric Church "Springsteen"
Check out Sean Rowe, Vincent Black Lightning 1952
Awesome reaction! Y'all should react to Those Days by Nickelback!
I listen to many different genres of music including country. I’m a huge Darius Rucker fan, both with Hootie and his solo country work. I believe both of you ladies would love Alan Jackson’s country song called Remember When.
Highly reccomend Chris Stapleton I was wrong. George Strait, Kieth Whitley, Loretta Lynn, Reba....and more.
Its the lead singer of hootie and the blowfish duh Lol
Hootie & the Blowfish.
If you heard Hootie and the Blowfish, you have.
Does anyone know if the old man in the truck is Sy Robertson
Listen to COLLECTIVE SOUL RUN and THE WORLD I KNOW
Say, were they the ones that did that song called Shine? That was on heavy FM rotation back in the mid 90's. Fantastic guitar riff with that unmistakable pause. Still love that song.
Hi have you ever heard of the band hooty and the blowfish if you have the guy singing wagon well is the lead singer ger for the hooty and the blowfish
I love the way that this shows that, while many white Southerners are super racist, the majority are "with the times" and realize that racism is absurd!
Unfortunately, the racist minority seem to have come upon a strategy of late, in which they can force 'normal Republicans' (the actual MAJORITY in the House, just not necessarily the "plurality") to bend to their CRAZY will, just to "own the Libs", rather than to conserve the Constitution or our entire way-of-life/basic society/rule-of-law/etc.
