      I mean Stay Hungry had it's hits.....but, Slippery When Wet is the best selling glam rock album of all time (don't consider GNR "glam") and outsold the entire Sister discography several times over.
      Hell even _New Jersey_ sold more than double their entire discography.

      Ratt walked that line in the early days of the band before the executives got to them. Hell they hung out with Metallica and Metallica back then hated the glam scene. I think they even thank Ratt in the credits to Ride The Lightning (or was it Puppets?). But yeah those two bands I don’t consider “Hair Metal.” WASP was continuing more in the shock rock tradition closer to what King Diamond was doing without the satanism and probably scared some of the chicks off with their ferocity. And Skid Row should’ve been spared the purge from the grunge movement. Those dudes were heavy and had many songs that were much deeper than partying and girls…though I definitely don’t have a problem with “Big Guns!”

      @sarizonana 7 месяцев назад

      @@semperconstance don’t know much about kiss but I think they were sort of the pioneers of glam metal, they had that fun bubble gum type of poppy metal feel so distinctive in glam metal.
      Aerosmith in the dream on era they sounded more like serious rock or rock to appeal to the critics. One common thing all glam metal bands had is that music critics hated them with Passion as much as in late 90s hated boy bands.
      But Aerosmith had a good respect from the critics and it’s partly because of their 70s more blues rock than fun rock/pop them metal bands brought us.

    • @semperconstance
      @semperconstance 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@sarizonana - that's a fair point. All music opinion is subjective, of course. But you're likely correct, Aerosmith was a more respected "serious" critical act than Kiss was in the 70s, even though later 80s Aerosmith hits (Love in an Elevator, Dude Looks Like A Lady, etc.) would probably fit the definition of 80s fun/pop hair metal to a tee.

    • @sarizonana
      @sarizonana 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@semperconstance many fans say Aerosmith it’s like we had two different bands in one. The 70s was more pure rock or rock for purists and latter Aerosmith entered in the Glam Metal thing.
      Personally I do love glam Metal my faves : Bon Jovi and Aerosmith love both, as for critics they can go to hell 😅😅. Sure probably Bon Jo and Aerosmith’s careers would have been like in the same level as Madonna if the critics would have liked them but still they very well.
      I think critics have a 20% influence on making an artist or band career. It’s mostly the audiences word but critics have a 20% influence. So yeah even Bon Jovi and Aerosmith did great they would have been as famous as Madonna or Michael Jackson if they had the press on their side.

    The problem with this list is that Metallica, Ozzy, and Medadeth all had big hair in the 80s and they are not on this list. None of them are classified as hair bands or cock rock.

    I don’t understand the term ‘hair band’. So dumb. And if Whitesnake is on this list, then Ozzy and Priest need to be as well. Britny Fox ahead of scorpions and Tesla? What the hell? Britny Fox had one gold album. They were a blip. Scorpions are a massive band worldwide. And I know Dee hosted, but Twisted Sister number 2, ahead of Crüe, Leppard, Cinderella, and Bon Jovi? That’s just crazy. One big album. Then nothing. And no Guns N Roses? Sorry, they were not that different than the rest. Appetite was part of all that scene. They were not above it. This list is flawed.

      I think it is supposed to refer to those bands that have only the hair going for them and nothing else, those just selected by the labels for looks despite no actual musical ability. It became common for these bands like trixter, the whole album is played by studio session players, the songs are written by studio writers. At most only the mediocre singer is real. With warrant the label had to pay for guitar lessons so they could actually play their own songs live.

      It’s funny in that case that motley gets called hair band. It would seem to fit, but it really doesn’t. Motley actually played their own instruments live in the studio. Their drummer and guitarist are quite decent in terms of feel. And Nikki actually wrote the songs, which are very fun. They are also pioneers of the genre not copycats. The thing is there are bands who far surpassed motley in terms of technical prowess, but did not have nearly the success because they just had nothing interesting or fun to say with their song writing. That is the X factor that no amount of shredding can beat.

      Yeah Scorpions should have been further up at least in the top 10.

      This whole list reminded me why I thought I wasted over three hours of my life the first time I watched it and now I wasted more of my life again. Twisted Sister is like a low end of the top 20 “hair band” remembered for two songs…yeah number 2. Skid Row and WASP two bands that should be near the top ten at minimum way further back. If Scorpions are a hair band then they are top five…way more hits than Twisted Sister. Slaughter in the top ten? Warrant over Ratt and Dokken…these aren’t just my opinions…the charts back me up…this is the public’s opinion. Even taking my own sensibilities out of this and ranking them on success, the quality of music and how iconic they are (not VH1 manufactured retell the PMRC story for the millionth time Dee Snyder shit) this list is way off. Extreme is number 39 over about fifteen bands that hardly scraped the top 40 with one song…let alone three. Damn this list is wretched!!!

      Also Bon Jovi at three? Like the biggest hair band of all time? Like them or not they’re number one. Def Leppard at eight?! They’re number 2. Motley Crue should be 3…after that then we can start debating a little bit this obvious stuff but we have to blow Dee Snyder since he’s hosting!

    Why is Extreme listed as a hair band? They had hair.... but honestly, they were too smart to be a hair band. I wouldn't call any of the hair bands smart. That makes Extreme freaks. So, stop it.

    I lost respect for Firehouse in 1994. I was an in-home nurse for a woman with advanced MS. We would watch The 700 Club in the afternoon. One day, they ran a contest for the best live Christian song. Firehouse came on and sang Love of a Lifetime and won. They claimed that Jesus was their Love of a Lifetime, and the song was about Jesus. Imo, this was a blatant lie. I'm not sure what the prize was or if they just wanted the exposure. CJ Snare, the writer of the song, even stated in an interview that the song was not about any particular person.
