[TAS] Super Meat Boy - Any% in

- This is a tool-assisted speedrun of Super Meat Boy in the any% category, with a completion time of 15:32.80 (RTA timing). The run is done on linux on a single input file on a tool called linTAS.
Tricks used in this run:
Dual jumping: When using both keyboard and controller jump buttons separately meatboy can jump more frequently with less frames moving downwards.
Wallsliding: If you jump when barely touching a wall, meatboy will do a slide instead of a jump.
Storage jumping: On the first frame of the level it is possible to jump if the character touches the ground or a wall when touching bandage girl.
Fast acceleration: If meatboy does a 1 frame input of turning to the opposite direction during a ground jump meatboy will accelerate faster.
Autojumping: It allows for the character to make full jumps and jump inputs on every frame at the same time. It is performed by holding jump, pausing, releasing jump, and unpausing. It can be cancelled by pressing jump again.
Exiting to map pause glitch: During the exit to map dialog meatboy will continue his spawning animation whereas the object in the level don't progress. This allows meatboy to catch earlier cycles on some levels.
Frame manipulation pausing: Pauses cause the next frame to be slightly different from what it would otherwise be. This allows optimizations in movement in some levels.
Detach jumping: During detaching meatboy stays on the wall for a couple frames while moving away from the wall. Jumping during these frames gives meatboy extra speed.
Instadetaching: Holding both directions allows meatboy to begin detaching immediately on a left sided wall.
Disappearing laser eye: A linux only trick where the laser eye disappears. This trick is not understood particularly well but it generally happens when doing small movements relative to the angular distance of the laser eye.
Resolution and detail level : This run uses 1080p resolution and high detail in this run. There are small variations in some based on the resolution that is being used. It is possible some other resolution would be faster. The same stands for medium, low and ultralow detail.

I remember first watching this and not knowing what a TAS was and thinking "Aw, I wanna be the guy who does stuff like this!"
I got SMB and pumped 200+ hours into it only to come back and realize what TAS meant. My entire drive to play this game was because I was trying to beat a bot.
Not a bot, but a sequence of inputs. It's like trying to play a piano faster than a player piano does.
Still, the best human runs can often feel equally insurmountable.

Even if that glitch weren't possible, you'd still be seeing consecutive frame-perfect wall jumps, because this is a TAS

Speedrunners make it look easy but it isn't, so completing the level the way it was intended would probably still be easier than trying to pull one of these skips.

It has been started but is in very early stages. Making that will take significantly more effort than this so I don't think it will be ready any time soon.

The linux version doesn't have alt glitch nor the unlocked fps glitch. Also I'm pretty sure wrong warp doesn't work either on linux. Since there is no working tas tool for windows the all glitches TAS can't be done as of yet.

There’s no way the pause-jumping trick is actually faster than just jumping on every frame
The time in which the game is paused is not counted towards the run, even though it is just a frame. That means that both options are equally as fast, but pausing is much easier to do than having to jump on every frame even while tasing. Therefore the easier option is chosen, but jumping on every frame is still a viable option.

Besides seeing the insane strats they use, one of my favorite things about watching a TAS is seeing how they waste time during cutscenes and autoscrollers.

The fadeout from the boss of the last chapter doesn't finish when the cutscene shows up. It continues underneath the cutscene. If you skip the cutscene quickly enough, the remaining fadeout will happen on the next level you enter.

1 thing was on my mind the entire video - you know, this is possible to do. TAS is not doing anything extraordinary, it just does it very consistently. Maybe one day human can keep up?
Илья Матюшенков the wall slides are hard to do consistently, and theres a few insane stunts that are inhuman, but with some edits yeah this is possible
While for a lot of things, this is true, there are some TAS’s that are impossible for humans, because of the input speed. If you look up Item Abuse 3 TAS, there are a minimum of a couple hundred frame perfect inputs in a row, and there physically isn’t enough time for a human to do it. Frame perfection is possible for humans, and can be consistent. 27 frame perfect inputs in 3 seconds isn’t.
But I appreciate the idea of tases as a “best possible human attempt.” If you like tases that are designed around that idea, I believe they’re called human theory, where they only do things that are possible for a person to do, and usually in a consistent manner
Dylan H I don't see the point in TAS if it is just some impossible tricks. You might as well cheat, basically the same thing. But here I see something that is tricky, yes, but possible (probably, I don't know all the inputs in this) to do for human, and for me it is the point of the games, and TAS in particular
But i can be done with a tone of luck... Doing 27 inputs in 3 seconds is doable, getting so lucke to make them frame perfect is very hard, but possible

Hold up, nobody does anymore ? Nevermind, here's a *VERY* accurate description of what it is :
Imagine this :
First, all of your weapons are dropped to level 1, then you fall into a part where you have to fly through instakill spikes with a multi-directional rocket that has only 1 second of fuel, Next, you need to do a perfect timing where you cut off your rocket so you save fuel for the corner at the bottom of a pit with instakill spike, then, you pick up your virgin bro and get the hecc out
Second, you go into a long corridor with both random and predictive boulders falling on you, doing 10 damage each ( the maximum HP in the game is 51 HP ) 5 hits and you're already dead ( unless you get the life pot ) and if it isn't hard enough, *they still hurt even if they hit the ground* and there's gonna be lots of butes ( small & *" cute "* angel-like creature that is *out for your blood* with their 5 DMG lances ) swarming around you the further you progress in, killing them are useless, they'll be quickly replaced.
Third, Your virgin bro wakes up and starts shooting with an OP weapon, then you fall into a room which is the longest in terms of length and you need to move left, not right like most platformers, and there are lots of different enemies that you need to take out with all your weapon in your arsenal at the same time, these includes :
- Deletes, Circles that barricades your way, slowing progress and letting butes approach you.
- Buff Butes, basically, if Hulk is going to defy one of them, he better brings an armor because these guys have 57 HP, Throws 10-damage boulder at you but can't aim, do they throw in the same trajectory, always, but occasionally, they'll just decide to use aimbot; they also kinds of barricade your way
- Archer Butes : The most annoying of them all, they have *aiming skills that are beyond human* but their range is fair enough so they don't get you far away, their arrows deal 8 damage, basically, you get hit 6 times you're dead.
- Rollings : *Don't wanna talk about it, they give me vietnam flashbacks*
and at the end of the room, you fight The Heavy Press, he's a cake walk by himself, but the 1-man dev decided " this thing is way too easy ! let's crank up thr difficulty to 11 ! "
and you have to :
- *Avoid the rollings*
- *Watch out for the butes*
- *Watch out for the lightning he fires*
and also, *MOVE* out of his way when you defeated him, or else, he's gonna crush you and you'd have wasted all your time playing through a near-impossible level.
and at the very end...

Seriously, Search up Ballos, he has 4 *MASSIVE* Health Bar, and also; before the start of the fight, there is a puppy, BEGGING you to kill his master, and even tells you that his magical powers ran so wild that he *CANNOT* even die.
3,500 HP, EVEN more than the final boss ( Ballos is the true antagonist of the game ).
Search up a cave story speedrun, it's easier watched than done.

Very nice TAS! Surprising levels: anything with eyes, The Kingdom. I hope in the future this can be published on TASVideos once sync issues are nailed down. (Also, can the Expert Remix levels be TASed this way?)
