@@mkhud50n - That is literally YOU projecting YOUR belief onto a show that is nowhere near as deep or as meaningful as you believe because Leslye Headland the writer of this story has none of your understanding of the nuances of good and evil and if she did she has frankly failed to manifest them in her teenage like fan fiction of a story.
This happens time after time with Disney Star Wars where fans create very deep and convincing stories to make up for the total lack of thought in the newer Disney sequels and their scripts. I remember reading better stories and explanations in the comments for the events of Disney Star Wars shows than the writing team at Lucasfilm could ever manage…only to realise the fans were putting in way more thought than the scriptwriters.

Stupid line, but overall Wanda was treated as an abtagonistic force. We were meant to understand her grief, yes, but we were also meant to view her actions as toxic and harmful. That line was awful, but it was an isolated incident within the show.
For Falcon, what? Endorsing terrorism? No? Sams monologue was executed very poorly, but it never at any point endorsed terrorism. The whole point was that the people in power forced the flag smashers from their homes and discriminated against them before they had done anything wrong. This directly lead to them becoming terrorists, meaning that the senators are still partially resonsible for the violence caused. The problem was, they never gave us a reason to believe that this discrimination had been taking place, making it an extremely unearned payoff. The problem with the scene was never that Sam was 'endorsing terrorism'. Its not as if he turned around and said that the flag smashers were right and the government were wrong. It was just badly executed.

But as he gives in he starts to grow more power-hungry and evil, and he pays the price by losing his wife and being forced to spend the rest of his days trapped in a life-support suit, serving the man who tricked him into said life.

Agreed, the Acolyte is uniquely spiteful because it even character-assassinated a character from the High Republic era - completely not legacy, the Initiative launched in 2021. Vernestra from the Light of the Jedi book is now solely responsible for the Jedi Order not finding out about the plot of the Sith before 32 BBY. As soon as she arrived on Brendok, she could tell her old apprentice Qimir is involved in all of these Jedi assassinations in some way, but instead of uncovering the truth, she blamed it all on her fellow Master Sol who is no longer alive to tell his side of the story and reported that lie to Yoda. All that because she does not want her failure to train Qimir to be known publicly. Vernestra has been turned into a completely corrupt POS.
Man, people don't even know. The worst character assassination in this show is of a High Republic character. Headland is even spiteful toward High Republic writers, people who are supposed to be on her own side.

Headland completely ignored that the all the talk of the Dark Side leading to love, expression, and passion has always been the pitch lines from blatant villains. The Dark Side lies about giving you whatever you want, but slowly strips everything from you until the hate and power lust is all you have. At a certain point, they deliberately destroy whatever or whoever they once loved because they were holding them back.
There is no moderation with it to take just what you want because that goes against its very nature. The Sith dupe themselves into thinking they're the masters of it when everything they do is in service to the Dark Side. They literally rot from the inside out the more they use it.
There is no moral relativism with it, no matter how hard you try to twist it.

      * The Jedi and their Code are advocating the safer approach, distancing themselves from feelings and attachments as much as possible, as the grief of loss or betrayal one could start someone on the path towards the dark side.
      * A "grey Jedi", who is NOT a Jedi, would be a light side force user who doesn't distance themself from feelings and attachments, but try to reject the negative emotions when they inevitably arise. Akin to walking on an emotional tight-rope, the smallest misstep could lead to a fall. I imagine trying to make this tight-rope less perilous was why the Jedi Code was originally created.
The whole "using both sides of the Force", Jolee Bindo-style, is exceedingly weird to me, as they are different ways to connect with the same "energy field". The light side is basically communing with the Force in an equal exchange and the dark side is forcing your will and emotions onto it, while receiving those same feelings back in a feedback loop.

The creators started their rhetoric at a Star Wars celebration during a convention where they told the crowd and essentially the world that and I quote there is no good or evil, just shades of grey. Which sounds like every sociopath in a true crime story sitting in an interrogation room on a Dateline episode that use the same rational and rhetoric to minimalize their deranged psychothapy and lack of morality. It's nice to know they've now retconned that original justification in lew of having an actual conscience or moral barometer of any kind public stance and reconfigured their position to making now a firm stance, picking a side and that side is pure, unabashed, unbridled evil. I find this kind of candor refreshing.

People remember Knights of the Old Republic right? There's a way of approaching the grey morality of the Jedi without also desecrating George Lucas' mythos and the original/prequel trilogies.
But the public discourse now is that the Jedi should unambiguously stay good, and the Sith bad--but this also feels relatively empty. There's ways of exploring these ideas in nuance while also staying faithful to the source material. The Acolyte is absolutely not it and misses the mark; it's full of very shallow writing by admittedly morally bankrupt writers, but this idea that is circulating in the discourse that the morality should never be challenged is completely uncompelling and I hate it.

From a screenwriting perspective, a theme isn’t a simple as good vs. evil. It’s a philosophical belief that the writer is trying to say through their story and it predicts the ending. When you said Leslye Headland says “giving into your desires and base emotions should be celebrated” you nailed the theme of this show. It drives most of the twins’ actions, and it predicts the ending: Osha kills Sol, trains/falls for Qimir, and the green Jedi lies to the council to save herself.

While i don’t think the writing was the tightest writing Star Wars has ever had, I read the Acolyte as more of a cautionary tale. This show demonstrates the way, even 100 years before the prequels, that the Jedi are already being corrupted by the bureaucracy and political wiles of the Senate (I interpreted the so-called “evil” acts of the Jedi like covering up Sol’s death and such as trying to stay in good graces with the Senate).
I also think Mother Aniseya’s reference to the fall of the Jedi in the future because they are so bad at handling grief (though both cases of poorly handled grief should not have been Jedi by their rules but that’s besides the point) was less saying “the Jedi are evil and wrong” and more saying “the Jedi are flawed and I don’t want my children to grow up with them.”
Also, on Sol murdering Aniseya being portrayed as an evil thing: the Jedi kill many people that they perceive as a threat without being shown in that light. Why is that? Maybe this alternate pov is showing something about how the rest of the galaxy sees the Jedi (since we normally see the narrative on the side of the Jedi).
Maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t think the end of the series felt like a victory for anyone. We’re supposed to mourn for Mae’s death (losing your memories is basically the equivalent of death) and Osha’s Fall to the dark side, but the writing is pretty subtle and I think they could’ve brought this sad tone to the surface.
Anyways, that’s my thoughts. Let’s discuss, I rlly want to hear others’ perspectives as well!!

I guess this explains why Leslie didn't seem to have a problem with Harvey Weinstein...
As far as Kennedy goes, I haven't decided if I think she hates Star Wars and George Lucas or if she thinks that she was given Lucasfilm to make "her Star Wars." What came before was George Lucas's Star Wars, and now that she's in charge, she's going to shape it into her own vision. "I'm in charge, so I can do with it what I want." It isn't that she hates Star Wars, she just wants to prove that her Star Wars can be just as good. Just a theory. Either way it sucks. To be fair, I don't think "everything" in canon sucks. It's just that far too much of it does, and it's made by people who either simply don't understand Star Wars or just want to co-opt the platform for their personal activist agendas. Regardless, Kennedy needs to be replaced by someone who actually gets it, and it might even be necessary for Disney to sell Licasfilm for there to be any meaningful hope.
Dave Filoni is definitely baffling, though. I used to hold him in high regard because he was a showrunner for The Clone Wars which kept a lot of the fandom engaged after the prequels, and he used to he one of the only people of telling good stories in this universe under Disney, but it seems like the more power and direct control he's been given, the less capable he seems to be able to wield that power. The question, however, is how much influence has he had on the creative direction of some of these various projects not directly made by him. I'm pretty sure a lot of these shows, including Acolyte, were already in production before he took his post (they were announced in 2020 or 2021 when Kennedy announced all if thise shows and movies at the Disney shareholders presentation, half of which still haven't come out and never will).

Nothing was still "intact" after TLJ. That misguided vanity piece damaged the saga beyond repair. After TLJ, I didn't care anymore whether the "Star Wars" label was stuck on poorly written propaganda nonsense or not. It had become just a label and did not stand for anything of interest to me anymore. So whether or not The Acoshyte is bad or really, really bad, does not concern me at all. It has nothing to do with "proper Star Wars", just like TLJ did not have anything to do with proper Star Wars. The difference is that it still mattered whether TLJ was rubbish or not and the fact that it did not turn everything on its head does not redeem it one little bit. I was deeply affected after TLJ because I had lost something I treasured. The Acoshyte's beating of a dead carcass does not upset me anymore than if some random person invented some fan fiction I didn't like and narrated it to people on a street corner. So what, it does not matter.

"A Series of Clownish Events" is a much better title for this show than The Acolyte.

Mindwiping is from the EU games, not gonna say who or what the plot was but it's definitely not a new idea, however it's also shown as an unforgettable thing to do, something to be ashamed of, in the Original Lucas canon (EU), Before Disney.

Bruh I get what you want people to experience the game themselves, but come on. That game and the person in question is literally the video game equivalent of the Vader reveal everyone into Star Wars knows who you're talking about even if they never played it.

IIRC it took many experienced people to do the mindwipe. Yet it took one Sith apprentice to wipe a black woman's mind. 👀

Leslie Headlands extreme misunderstanding of KEY starwars elements isn't the only thing to blame, but it certainly is a significant one among the shows maaaannnny fatal flaws. Leslie seriously said that when she was young and watching starwars that she didnt understand the line about "Vader being SEDUCED by the dark side of the force". She said she didnt know what the word "seduced" meant. Then she got older and then it all made sense to her.... except she was completely wrong lol. She LITERALLY thinks "seduced by the dark side" is referring to a "sexual seduction". She actually said this. And sure enough its in the show. Qimir undressing and bathing with Osha watching, starring, leering at him. He says countless thinly veiled sexual innuendos to her. All to "sexually seduce" her to the dark side 😂. Its seriously painful to watch ...but as im sure we all know by now, its even worse than that. Turning on the disney audio scene description gives a narration that sounds like a trashy errotic novel that would have Fabio on the cover. The descriptions include, his glistening muscles, well toned back, the word throbbing tossed in for absolutely no reason and MUCH more that was too cringe for me to retain. Leslie Headland is a simpleton narcissist that should have NEVER been allowed anywhere near such a project...or within 500 feet of an elementary school. The idea that her horrendous script was greenlit with a budget of 180 million is sickening. Yeah, the show sucked, we all got some good laughs at these incompetent identity politics hires in yet another woke train wreck disaster. But...each time this happens it becomes a little bit less funny and at this point its starting to be just plain sad. Can you imagine all the excellent ideas and scripts from brilliant ppl that never even got the chance to pitch them because they didnt check ✅ the right boxes? This nonsense is destroying the entertainment industry and wreaking havoc in virtually every nook and cranny of our society. How far is this gonna go? How long can this possibly be sustained before the mistake is realized? Or not realized and everything begins to collapse? These questions... these arent so funny. 😕

If lightsabers automatically turned red when its user turns to the dark side, why didn't Anakin's lightsaber turn red while he was slaughtering younglings?

I wasn't expecting anything from the acolyte, I thought it would be a fart in the wind, I'm surprised to be, not exactly dissapointed-I expected nothing-but leaving it Offended by the blatant cult apoligia for the crazy witch cult, I was raised in a cult, and seeing this show go "how sad the cultists got stopped from abusing children" and framing them as good or missunderstood when they are just evil, this show actually makes me pissed off now

I'm glad you mentioned the way she interpreted being seduce to the dark side. I've seen a lot of creators talk about what a stupid comment that was, but no one I've heard has really seemed to catch that she really did think people turned to the dark side because that seduction, to her, is sexual. Sexuality has nothing to do with the force. It's like sbe equates the dark side with being open about and indulging in your sexuality or something. It's literally the most stupid take about the force that I've ever heard.
And don't apologize for calling her dumb. If the shoe fits... she could have avoided this by visiting wookieepedia once or twice to make sure she wasn't going to put something idiotic into her show. It's not that hard. I've read better fanfiction than anything in this show.

We're experiencing the repercussions of having a surplus of writers who are told Scorcese is good without understanding why. They tend to see evil more as a cosmetic choice than anything substantive.

As somebody who watched Star Wars in the seventies and eighties in the Movie Theatre and loved the Movies for what they were: Adventure Pew Pew Friendship-Family Spaceship go zoooooom and thus falling in love with it ( long sentence oh my) I can only say one thing: ''
Let Star Wars die and create something new!
Consequently; I encourage everyone to delve into their mind and create something NEW...do not get into the vitriol of weaponized ENTERTAINMENT..thank you!

I have to call out the action as well! I keep seeing people saying “it’s bad but the fight are the best we’ve ever seen” but the lightsabers look like plastic… and the wire work is terrible.
There is not a single redeeming factor in this show, not one.
Sol is a bad character, the actor did okay but his squidgames performance was amazing. Disney made him incompetent.
Leslie really heard seduced by the force and ran with it. Awful awful awful television

The Acolyte was actually much worse than I thought it was initially because I watched a group that pointed out every inconsistentcy and out of character moment in the show which made me realise just how bad it got. Good god this doesn't even deserve to be called writing.

Im very convinced that they had a number of sub plots that either got canned, or were even filmed but then cut for time.
Either that or this was legit written by AI. Like there are so many moments and dialogue bits that scream “there was supposed to be something here to explain this!”

Remember, the whole "Bleeding a Kyber Crystal" thing was an addition after Disney bought Star Wars and threw out the EU (you know, only to cherry-pick what they thought looked neat, only to twist it to make their new stuff look better by comparison, but anyway). So not only did they retcon how red lightsabers work, but they retconned the existing retcon.
Anyway, can't wait for season two when Darth Plagius learns how to create life from the twins, thus stripping him of the thing he's best known for, to prop up the director's OCs...
