No. 1 is on point. I thought sister locs or micro locs too. No ma’am. No ma’am, no ma’am. I have medium/thick locs and I LOVE them. I started them myself. My sisters parted and I twisted. I’ve been loc’d for a year and almost 6 months. Your locs are stunning
I started microlocs and I washed my hair within the 3rd week. I braided it and washed the scalp only the shampoo just ran down the braids, my hair didnt unravel, but, washing locs in the early stages is totatly worth it. All I do is use water and oil and leave it alone. A clean scalp and hair = Healthy hair and after health comes the length.
Preach on sitting under the dryer. I find myself putting off retwists sometimes because “it’s not early enough in the day to allow for a full air dry” which is just silly because even when I was loose natural it would take 2-3 days for it to fully dry 😅 Much better to at least jump start the drying process by sitting under the dryer for at least an hour if not longer. Also….I find very few people own bonnet dryers, do they not know there’s more than one temp setting? 🤣 dry on the cool setting, y’all *it’s not using heat in general that keeps peoples hair from growing, I’ve been a long haired dryer sitter my whole life for styles, deep conditioning, all that. It’s excessive heat without protection and proper care before/after that damages the hair
Since my hair still almost to my shoulders, can get away with air drying, however, my locs have that texture that is prone to getting flat locs so I use my blow dryer after I air dry in the sun sometimes if it’s summer and I use it a lot more in the winter with less air drying. Use a heat protector spray if ur scared of heat damage.
I have had locks almost 20 years and I liked when I dryed my hair myself. Air drying made my hair super heavy and seemed to add to thinning in my opinion. I have never been to a stylist. I’ve had trials and tribulations listening to things that worked for others. Sticking to my own methods have kept me living my hair. Your hair beautiful by the way.
Wow 20 years!! That’s amazing. Why do you think you’ve kept your locs this long? I hope that people will read your comment and understand that it’s important do what is best for yourself. I’m inspired thank you! 💞
@@nattyann awwww thanks sooo much! I’m such a creature of habit and my love of them in their prime were so beautiful. I only had thought about it getting rid of them two years ago as my hair started getting thin. I definitely over twisted. It took me a long time to accept them in their “un neat state”. These days I’m more fond of the fuller, unmanipulated state for myself. but yea it’s been quite the journey. I’m newly subscribed and fully tuned in to your journey and tips 😊
Wow! I have a similar story. I always wanted sisterloc. But settled for micro locs w/over 200+ locs mines is tailbone length. Your advice is spot on. Keep the videos coming, finally found someone along my journey. Except I believe I have high porosity hair, so my hair drys fast. Even when I was relaxed it literally drunk 🥴 everything up.
@@nattyann Nope only heavy when wet, is that weird? Just very annoying laying on them. Wash day, is done in sections being sure each section water runs clear.. I don't tie my hair up unfortunately so I have lint along the perimeter. I'm retwisting 3x a year. To combat thinning... The downside to the length is the styles I use to be able to is extremely bulky 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I am 3 and a half years loc’d. Up until a month ago I had never dried my locs with heat. I would only air dry. Now that they are longer I definitely get what you mean about them not getting dry and smelling (like a damp mop 🙈 lol). Can’t have that!
I appreciate your number point but I went into having locs installed knowing I didn't want to maintain them. I know many people like me also. Just like when I put braids in my hair for years, I never intended on braiding my own hair. I have now been sisterlocked for 7 years and I have never retightened my own hair, even during the pandemic. My hair is close to my waist now and I have never, not once blow dried it either since having my sisterlocks installed. Maybe it dries faster because the locs are small but as long as I make sure I spend time outside after I wash them, they completely dry within hours. They have never smelled bad either.
@@nattyann i love it! I’m noticing my instant locs are finally starting to loosen up and become less stiff. I can’t wait until I actually am able to slowly trim the instant loc away as it grows out (if the shapes don’t agree with my palm roll maintenance). I should have loc’d YEARS AGO
You and your locs are gorgeous. Just happened to stumble upon your video I love how you provided your content. Definitely had to give you a thumbs up and hit that subscribe button. About to go check out your other video now ❤️
That first tip is so true.. I also wanted sisterlocks and went in with every intention of doing them but I got halfway through and realized I was parting way too big but I had something to do so I couldn’t start over just had to keep going. I was gnna comb them out before they fully locked and split each one when I had the time but less than halfway through my 2nd retwist I was like yeah I subconsciously knew what I was doing and I’m glad I didn’t make them smaller bc i barely made it through w the size I have. I still kinda wish I had sisterlocks when I see em but my babies are beautiful so I won’t complain I love em☺️❤️
I’m sure you locs are gorgeous and I’m glad you like them. You saved yourself a whole lot of work and time by keeping the larger size! I still love to admire people with sisterlocs ❤️🔥
Hi 👋🏿! I’m always so excited to get a notification for a new video from you🤗! I could honestly look at your locs all day, they are GORGEOUS 😍! Love these tips! My sister makes me sit under the dryer when she does my hair, but I don’t when I do it myself😅. I hate the dryer, but I do understand why it’s necessary for locs! Thanks for sharing ❤🌹!
You are so beautiful!!! I just twisted my hair and really contemplating locing I have 113 twists hehe they would be perf!! Ahhh thinking of waiting till my loose natural hair is at waist length.. thinking thinking .. great video tho!!
Thank you! I say if you love your twists, go for it now! You won’t regret it. Keep in mind your hair will shrink up at first due to locking process. Short locs are a vibe but they don’t stay short for long. It’s a fun experience, let me know what you decide. 🥰💓
Everyone's experience, of course is different, I do not sure under the dryer after washing my locs. 6 years waist length.. I just didn't like it.... My hair NEVER smelled bad or got moldy, as some have said. Just my experience🤷♀️
Hi! Happy Sunday! This was helpful, I just started my loc Journey about a week ago. My scalp tends to get dry quickly. What do you use on your scalp for lasting moisture?
Hi! Happy Sunday! Girl, I’m still looking for something proper lol I use grapeseed oil throughout my hair and scalp. When it starts to flake I give it a wash.
@@nattyann Hi! Oh okay, I here that is a great oil, I was thinking of washing my hair next weekend due to be a little itchy some. My scalp tends to be just dry rather than itchy. It seems like my hair soaks up moisture quickly!
What are your thoughts on interlocking and the retwisting/palm rolling method? I just started my loc journey yesterday and my loctician used the interlocking method. Does it give less volume overtime? Should I switch to palmrolling? I would greatly appreciate your feedback?
Hi! I think both methods are great but I wouldn’t do it interchangeably. Pick one and stick to it. With interlocking you don’t need loc gels and your locs will not unravel. If you hair is voluminous naturally it will stay that way! Palm rolling is easier in my opinion and you’re more likely able to maintain on your own (some can interlock on their own too.) This decision really comes down to preference. If you are concerned with volume or thickness that depends on the density of your natural hair. I hope this helps. Let me know what you decide! 💓
