Not bad, Will! Just stumbled across this video. There are a few tweaks and some critical events which were omitted but the War of 1812 is one significantly under studied. These omissions notwithstanding, glad to have watched. Keep it up.

This is a fantastic, wonderfully clear, very engaging overview of this war.

Not a big deal but the photo you installed to show depicting the battle of Detroit was actually depicting the fall of Sir Isaac Brock at the Battle of Queenston Heights. Also the photo you installed showing the battle of Frenchtown was actually the charge of the Kentucky horsemen on the 41st Regiment of Foot extended in light infantry order at the Battle of the Thames. I realize you had to show photos of something but thought I would point it out.

Thank you! I learned more here, than I did in high school on this war. It was sadly overlooked. Really appreciated 😊

Cree-ole (or if you prefer, Cree-yole)
Nothing about the naval battles on the Great Lakes?
You neglected to mention, that the burning of the white house, on *August 24th 1814,* was in retribution for the burning of York(now Toronto), the then capital of Canada (before Ottawa) 16 months earlier, on *April 27th 1813*

I was listening to this while I work... I stopped in my tracks when I heard that "Crayola farmers" came to the defense of New Orleans. (16:48) ... At least, that's what it sounded like. I quickly figured out it was just a pronunciation of 'Creole' I hadn't heard before

Lol... I actually am of Creole heritage so I understand when people hear variants of the word they think of crayons...

Great topic and facts but the pronunciation is just horrible!! Doesn't anyone do fact checking anymore or is this just AI generated and the editors also don't have a clue (which leads me to think they can't do American English)

So the over confident fledgling nation of the USA got its butt kicked by the poms. Most in the US find this defeat very hard to swallow even now over 200 years later. A lot of US history books only mention the Battle of New Orleans as the main battle of the 1812 War in which US troops thrashed the Brits. Only problem is the armistice had already been signed and the battle took place after the US admitted defeat. In more detailed histories written by US authors, the US authors talk about the support provided by the native Americans to the Brits suggesting that the Brits wouldn’t have won without native support. US folks need to get over it. The US lost, get over it.

This was incredibly poorly reaserched. You don't even mention Niagara. THE main theater of war. Are you ignoring it because America lost almost every battle there?

the British basically won. I mean the US failed to achieve any of its goals. Also the US lost the Vietnamese war.

What do you mean? The United States achieved their goal of stopping impressment of sailors into the British Navy. How did the British win? And it’s not because they “prevented the US from taking Canada” because that wasn’t a goal of the United States. It was a stalemate.

@@sirisaacbrock798 hahaha. It wasn't the goal to take Canada - sure - invade Canada six times... they came with Manifest Destiny in mind.

Still, it's definitely never fair at all to take away native indigenous lands at all. We need equality rights for all.

Good information. Nice presentation. But you need to work on your pronunciation. I don't know any creole that's going to appreciate being referred to as Crayola. We all have Google and Wikipedia. There's no legitimate excuse. Just do a bit of pronunciation homework. People get jumpy today. I'm looking out for you. Some idiot will come here and cry racism where it doesn't exist. Don't set yourself up for that.
