Competitive multiplayer of any kind has been straight up killed thanks to botting and it's largely thanks to these grind based business models. Valve and other companies that do this business model are just as guilty when it comes to the skin market because there are entire bot farms that make thousands out of this. Ironically, if they did away with letting people get skins this way regardless of what option they picked, their income stream would dry up instantly and game devs could still make money. Whenever I jump into a game I know that the playing field has changed drastically but I can't ever tell if I'm playing against bots or not these days and then I realise it probably is a bot based on reading the behaviour.
I think gamers should just boycott games like this entirely, it looks like that's mostly the case as people are moving over to co-op gaming and stuff like POE2 which is good. These studios will go out of business if people stop playing.

@ there's 2 kinds of bitters, there's the casual players that are using them (many being whales and a big reason why bliz ignores it) to get up in games while not constantly being at keys to do the actual work. This is partly why I say that both whales and casual players aren't gamers but tourists.
The other are the professional bitters and a number of these especially for certain games aren't exactly professional but more forced into this by professional bitters. I found this out in Eve Echoes years ago which a certain Chinese alliance has been doing known as AOA, they are also doing the same thing in the PC version Eve Online but under a different alliance name. Now these groups will not only be bitting and forcing people to bot but specifically manipulating player markets to artificially skyrocket prices of certain valuable items while lowering the prices for items that are less valuable to make them worthless. It's to force whales and casual players to buy these items through RMT and devs let them get away with it because it also forces players to spend real money on gold and loot boxes instead of risking ban from RMT

@ I was playing MUDs for decades, specifically MajorMUD which in the late 90s had started becoming more popular with boards allowing people to run scripts. Due to that it also became popular to find creative ways to mess with those scripts for looting people who died (death caused all items carried to be dropped and a huge part of PvP). In Eve Echoes many will also hunt bitters especially professional botters for this purpose. Some would even make events for it, gamers in WOW should setup an unofficial bounty system for botters, hunting parties, ECT.. to go out and hunt em down, post every botter account in the game for public and make a competition of it. If bliz won't do anything then force em to rage quit. In fact in Eve Online and in Eve Echoes to a lesser extent, people will spend months camping someone or a whole alliance for months until they rage quit. This stems from MajorMUD where I've also been a part of this in camping players for weeks to kill and collect gear they have. All 3 are very ruthless and unforgiving games

They advertise Mephisto walks the Earth... and then end the expansion with the same cutscene? The entire story was about asking that little girl how she feels over and over. And it couldn't be more painfully obvious that the story was intentionally made filler, because their analysts predicted everyone would come back for the actual plot when they actually face off against Mephisto. Blizz, no I'm not. You've treated me incorrectly for the last time.
If they released everything in the expansion for free and there had been an expansion with Mephisto, I'd maybe even start to have trust in them again like in the 2000s. - Server maintenance and management.
    - GM Customer moderation service/support.
    - The servers remaining online.
Aside from keeping the servers online Blizzard has done minimal effort when it comes to classic, especially when it comes to hiring new gms to combat stuff like bots.
Private servers are literally better maintained and moderated atm. One way to "solve" the problem is connecting people's account to a verified identity system, like a government OAuth service that connects your online account to you specifically.
That would solve the botting problem. But it introduces a whole new set of problems by making it potentially very rewarding to breach that government OAuth system and get everyone's personal data, and that's likely worse than the original problem such a system is designed to solve.

When they lost the court case against allowing gambling and RMT and if they did not take action against it, they would be heavily fined and eventually government would take over the whole company. similar shit happened to me back in 2017 during the Lucid Nightmare secret hunt. I was part of the secret finding discord and was helping figure things out, and by sheer luck I managed to solve the Ulduar puzzle with the lights. the moment I posted it in the discord I was FLOODED with messages saying I was not supposed to reveal it and they would kill me if I did, or wanted to pay hush money for me to not post it. I was an awful experience that basically made me quit the game at the time, only coming back to it recently with TWW. and I promised myself to never get involved with the community again like that and just play the game normally.

I wouldn't doubt it - and to be real here, Hardcore WoW shouldn't have been entertained for Blizzard to make it an official thing.
I don't see the fun of carefully leveling to 15, and your computer just screws you over to just try to get back on to discover you have to level up again, all because at the moment you were farming beasts for exp in the open.

what they should do though is run a simple script that makes character disengage when disconnect is detected

Another minor thing regarding Blizzard I just want to share: I’m a StarCraft player, I played co-op more often but love to relive the story after a while. In the whole 2024 I haven’t been able to play the campaign, any campaign… Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm or Legacy of the Void, none… why? Once you just start a new campaign you play the first mission and after beating it you are back in the introductory video… and you are in a never ending loop. Auto saves don’t work. You can not load a saved file because they don’t appear in the selection… is like it’s empty an new. But they are there in your PC local files intact.
So I reported it 3 times in the support system they have… they only send you to the forums, a topic is there with the issue. Also, more people are in the same situation, and nothing happens. A whole year you can’t play a game you own, because some new update f***d up the rest.

8:03 "It's not about having empathy, it's about understanding the logical conclusion" - Asmongold.
To take the viewpoint of someone else is empathy and I'm glad to see you're capable of it!
Blizzard has made a game where some players get a reward if they are willing to take a risk, financial gain is an incredibly strong motivator. They could have solved this issue long ago by themselves allowing and/or adding the features that third parties are selling but have instead decided to support the status quo. Players get understandably upset by "pay to win" and I'm not advocating they only add that and then think they're genius developers, all third party features have to be considered. They did this with the GUI and everyone is happy about that, lots of "quality of life" improvements came from third parties working essentially for free. They also had a great opportunity of being the first studio to develop a DOTA style game but failed to notice it's popularity in Warcraft 3.
