I think the definition of “Woke” really needs to be more clearly defined.
Lets take Concord for example did being Woke kill the game? You can say no it died because it was simply a bad game etc. but take it from a broader perspective and you see that they had “Woke” culture. Which has toxic positivity. The stuff with pronouns and ugly characters were just symptoms everyone can easily identify.
How I define “Woke” is the culture. How some others may define “Woke” is if it contains any “progressive” ideas like LGBT.
In general people are okay with progressive stuff i think its the majority. But when agendas are being pushed and people are being called racists facists etc. if you dont like the game. I add that to “Woke” Culture.
This new intergalactic game. You can already tell they knew its reception since they launched it with comments turned off. Im not gonna say i dislike the game since theres literally 0 gameplay shown yet but it is showing some bad signs and i dont have the trust you do with naughty dog. And thats okay. But purposely designing a character thats unattractive unless woven into the plot serves absolutely nobody. The people who dont care well wouldnt care anyways. So now you have the people who do care and i can confidently say most people prefer attractive over unattractive.
I also want to talk about Target Demographics. If you try to appeal to everybody you appeal to nobody.
From what I gather from the intergalactic game is that its a sci-fi setting. Now whats the demographic of Sci-fi, id say mostly boys/men. Japan has a system that works, Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, Josei.
I mention this because lets say you make a LGBT or Trans dating game/eroge. Is that woke? Id find it stupid to call it woke. Just like how there are dating games for men and women. Its simply hitting the target audience. But if the person who made that game had expected it to sell as much as the normal dating games its a delusion. Which is the “Modern Audience” you hear thrown about so often.
Often these “Woke”. Theyre biggest problem isnt the “Woke aspect” since its typically a bad game itself. BUT its a symptom. And people can identify the symptom and not the disease.

People are bored with female heroes, this needs not to be used for a while. Likewise, homosexual themes, marginal types, masculine or ugly women, these are no longer original, they feel stale.
What is wanted now are traditional games, traditional values, traditional women and men that have been ignored for a very long time, in short, games, TV series and movies that are not concerned with messages but are intended to entertain people and appeal to their instincts.
Instead of trying to change players, instead of fighting against sexism - racism - inequality etc., producers should just focus on making a good game like in the good old days, like in the game DOOM. Indeed, art and ideology do not go together. The aim of producers should not be to educate players, but to make them enjoy or have a good time with the game they make. Politics should be out of this area because everyone is tired of it.
We, the players, do not want someone to educate us, but to entertain us. That is why we pay for games, series and movies.

4:57 Concord failed because it is too woke. Marvel Rival is proof of this. The game doesn’t differ from Overwatch, yet it still has 400,000 more players on Steam. People didn't even want to try Concord because they are turned off by that woke design and color.
6:42 The only reason she shaved her head is because of wokeness. Realism because she live in the wild? Who cares about realism in video games... Games are a medium for entertainment, not for preaching sexual preferences. A beautiful figure is entertaining to watch. Do you really find a woman who looks like a man entertaining to watch? If it really has a good gameplay, for sure most people will play it with her helmet on to hide that ugliness. They don't need to create sexual figures, just don't make it ugly and hide under realism pretext.
9:52 Of all the possible characters that Ubisoft could use as a samurai in Japan, they chose a black man? Really? If they wanted a black samurai, why not set the story in the US, where a Japanese samurai retires, goes overseas, somehow stranded in US, and teaches a black man the skills of a samurai? It’s not just about historical accuracy, part the intent of the game is clearly to spread wokeness.

Concord failed because it's a bad game with a 40 dollar price tag. Marvel Rivals is free and is based on one of the largest currently existing IP with a huge fanbase. Concord was new IP with none of the same sway.
Women with shaved heads do not instantly look like men. Get your eyes checked. Do men with long hair look like women to you? Is every game about a guy with long hair woke? Also who said it was about being realistic? It's a design choice and they're in space? It's already unrealistic.
Honestly Yasuke is a random choice for me as well so I kind of agree with you. I just don't like people talking about historical accuracy in the Assassin's Creed games when it's literally never mattered in the series before.

@akaroomstudios Concord is FREE in open beta, yet no one is playing it. So the price argument doesn't make sense, because no one even wants to try it when it's free.
Yeah, shaving her head doesn't instantaneously turn her into a man. But do you know why people think like that? Because they believe she'll become smug, arrogant, aggressive, and masculine like a man. We all expect this to happen because of the 'woke' agenda. This is just speculation, but it has already happened multiple times, and this game will likely follow the same path. You may want to trust the studio, but we've all trusted other good studios before. Look at where they are now.

@@LaCroix05 again, no one wants to try concord because it’s a new IP that covers no new ground and offers nothing to the genre. The actual game itself had a solid foundation but there wasn’t enough innovation to entice people. Also is a woman that’s smug and arrogant so bad? Should all women be perfect little angels that never piss anyone off or do brash, arrogant things? If she’s annoying and a piece of shit that’s different but why do we have to box characters into one archetype? I know we’ve all been burned before but until we have definitive proof getting angry does nothing

@@akaroomstudios There wasn't enough innovation to entice people to play Concord? Sure, Rivals is considered the most innovative game of the year LOL.
Angry? this is called an opinion, in case you never heard it. Opinions like this are what led to the delay of AC Shadow, so they finally aim to make it better, not just preaching woke and buggy game.
We're sharing this opinion to remind everyone how many studios have made us regret believing in them. Don't get your hopes up too high, too many promising examples have let us down in the past few years.
If it turns out well, that's great. If it ends up being woke, then... as usual, it's woke agenda all over again.

baldur gates 3 wasn't wokest, not even close, dustborn was wokest. and the thing about baldurs gate is, the art style is good, gameplay is good and people used mods to remove woke stuff like every character being gay, including me. I don't want male companions hitting on me, there should've been a toggle to remove those interactions, since there weren't, we used mods, other than that it isn't woke remotely.
wokeness equates to poor game design. There is no other way to put it, wokeness ruins art and art is huge part of game design, wokeness takes the freedom out of art, takes the beauty of art, because some people consider them offensive. I equate those people to evil witch in snow white, it's generally women who hate seeing beautiful characters and try to use shaming language against us who appreciate beautiful characters. Trying to bully us into their way.
Right now for intergalactic we just saw an ugly looking trailer, not even gameplay. And our first impression is based on the game's art, which is miserable. But as I said before, art is one of the most important aspects for first impression, and even gameplay, especially for a story driven game based on characters. I'm not going to play as an ugly character. Swap this bald asian dude from intergalactic with Dante from DMC, I would've been very excited for the game, vice versa if DMC had intergalactic's MC back in the day, I wouldn't even picked it up in the first place.

Thanks for sharing, but I personally do not think wokeness = bad game design. When people pander and patronize in their script instead of focusing on gameplay, the game suffers. But that doesn’t inherently mean a game with a gay character is going to be bad, yknow? The world is a big place and it’s up to games, movies and films to explore All sides of it. You don’t have to love it but that doesn’t inherently mean the game is shit.

@@akaroomstudios a game with a gay character isn't 'woke' though. 'woke' does have a meaning and it specifically refers to that state where ideology becomes grinding and feels forced to the point where trying to educate someone to a certain ideology is the intent over anything else.
'woke' is the equivalent to the conservative 'bible bashing' or 'blowhard'. It hasn't lost all meaning, it's got a very specific meaning that's quite easy to understand.

      @akaroomstudios  3 дня назад +1

@ you’re right, but that’s how many people treat the word nowadays. One gay character? Woke. A woman is the main character? Woke. A black person is in the game? Woke. That’s how people ascribe meaning to the word nowadays. Trust me, I understand what it means, other people just keep using it wrong.

"Who cares" - you, Naughty Dog and Ubisoft are about to find out who cares - about historical accuracy, about non-stop propaganda inserted in games, about the same Mary Sue character written into everything over and over and over again.
Ten flops from now you are still going to be saying "But BG3... But no one knows what woke means..."
The funny thing is, AAA gaming is still in the phase of people caring enough to be angry.
The early stages of finding out.
In comics and movies they made fun of people caring for years.
    Now... now nobody cares.

    • @akaroomstudios
      @akaroomstudios  3 дня назад +1

The flops are flops because they have terrible writing and boring, uninspired gameplay. Mass Effect, The Witcher and Cyberpunk all have "woke" characters and stories but people love those games because they're GOOD. Also, the point of the video is that we're judging a 3 minute trailer with no gameplay and no story basis. You're basing an entire experience on a fictional woman's bald head and calling her a Mary Sue in advance. If you're right, I'll be among the first to talk about how bad the game is. But we currently have no idea, so jumping the gun does nothing.

@@akaroomstudios Learn the difference between "woke" and "progressive". Google if you need to, this is tiresome.
There are many factors for something failing. Being woke is one of those factors - a major one.
I can look at a character design and guess a lot about the creator's intent - especially if I've been watching the same character ruin different media for 8 years now.
But in this case, I watched 3 minutes of characterization. An insufferable mixture of arrogance and bad manners. I didn't know how much I despise people, slurping loudly during work related zoom calls - I've never seen someone do that before. It's quite visceral.
Impressive, actually - lesser storytellers would show me someone "kicking a puppy" and not achieve a similar result. ND managed it with a smug expression and a soda.
