This song is really for those who cannot let go, whether it be a girlfriend breakup or losing her or him completely or even to the occasional death in the family and all of them falls into the same consequence's and truth. That all the promises you made are nothing but dreams and what if's, the future where you and her will live in a house full of life, love and happiness is nothing and you will live with the hope that is falsity. edit: and in the aftermath, you can only fantasize about it but not actually live it, as it is no longer living. And you can no longer accept other alternatives other than remain where it died and you along with it.
I fully agree. But, the memory of it may not even be a bad thing. Sometimes, the idea of something that could've been is more beautiful than something that is here, now, but already not as enjoyable. Thoughts like that, sometimes, really help get out of sad emotions now. It helps to understand that there is a chance of something beautiful in the future because something as beautiful was there in the past.
