- Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen - July 31, 2016. That awkward moment when bicycles get in the way of the changing of the guard. I was a tourist and decided to record the changing of the guard and glad I did, didn't expect to catch something like this on video!
Dealing with idiot spectators all day has got to be the worst part of being a royal guard.

Summer of 2001 was so hot the tourists would lean against the walls of the palace. Some guards (me; said the dog) got their throat sore with yelling and the Queen got annoyed with the guards(man) for yelling too much all day of the poor fat tourists
@@JacobVahrSvenningsen I think we’ve all experienced that. Every time around 12, when people gather to see the guard change. Sometimes the police is helpful, sometimes not so much.

In all fairness if my mate told me we can either see some Danish guards for the Danish royal family which I probably wouldn't have even known the Danish had a royal family as I don't know a South American or something. Or I could go and see the queen's guards who I probably know as the people who genuinely could get away with decking some bikes I'd prob decide to visit the UK.
These guards could've stomped those bicycles as well but they chose not to.

So this is another one of those cases where an indivual has the power to travel back in time to witness the situation itself.

At 0:30 you see what I believe to be a woman changing position to get out of their way.
Regarding the guard which had to yell it twice. All of the guards were looking straight ahead not looking around to find the people responsible for those bicycles. Therefore I would find it quite normal to yell it twice since he doesn't know if anyone has reacted yet.
The boy in the end of the video looks kinda embarrassed to me tbh. The mother is smiling, but it's not impossible to smile when embarrassed.

The only thing the queens guard of the United Kingdom can’t knock over is I think a few members of the royal family , the guards have an extension of power from the queen which is why if they felt threatened or the queen could be in danger they truly could kill or injure someone without any reprocusions since no one is gonna tell the queen off for killing someone who wants to injure her.

Nah they'd wait for people to go get them and then march forward just to teach the people a lesson after all a bikes 50 pounds at least but your hip or a fractured bone might be free but the pain depending on your job is hundreds.

When I was in the army I spent a month with the guards many years ago attached to the Royal Scots. The Guards were excellent hosts and a great bunch of guys.
Quite sure the Scots are British, This is the Royal Lifeguards (The Danish Royal Guard) meaning not the British so I dont see your point. Yes I know im late with responding but yes.

The lady on the right waited till they stopped took like six photos or something and then got her bike, I think we found the main culprit.

I don’t know why people laugh. Perhaps it’s because I’m a history buff, however I wouldn’t be laughing, they look really cool.
My impression is that people were laughing at the absurdity, not the guards. And that the mother and child was embarrassed but otherwise acted in good faith. The resolution seems very Danish: calm, civil and informal (and with some dry humour).
Because their pathfinding is horrible. They could've gone around the bicycles, as every other human would've done.

They might've been further away from the bicycles than you think. How were they supposed to know the guards would be changing at that moment. Simple mistake. Seems a bit odd for a mom & son to prank the royal guards. Everyone knows not to fuck with them since they carry guns with live ammunition.
It was obvious, no one was standing where the bikes were as the guards were looking that way, and when they were told to move them, the guards had to say it twice before they reacted, so they are disrespectful.

yellow kloppmarine they start the changing in a different corner and go all around so when they arrived there on their bikes I’m sure the changing of guards happened on the other side of the middle ( the statue ). I have been there several times.

I'm using the UK as an example but as I went by one area with the queen's guard on his post to go on a school trip that 5 second glimps showed the guy get verbally abused from tourist and people taking the Mickie, might be a biased view but tourists just seem like absolute pricks.

When they stop she goes behind them takes a few pictures and waits for people to start moving their bikes. I think it’s mostly cultural differences. The Danes are usually more subtle, but I could totally imagine British guards just hitting the bike out of the way

The Danish guardsman handled the situation perfectly. It's hilarious to read comments suggesting that the guardsmen should just have "walked over" the bicycles or kicked/removed them. If it was just people standing in their way, the guardsmen could have played it tough, but walking deliberately into some bicycles? Nah, that would have been an incredibly stupid thing to do, when there was a better and easier alternative. Also, by not removing or kicking the bicycles, you show that you're above such things. Again, perfectly handled.
They are allowed to do it yet choose not to, the whole thing is up to the Officer to decide, If it was a Diffrent officer another result may have apeared
Plus it takes forever to fix and rebuff damages to the spit-shined boots. I can't blame the guardsmen for trying to avoid that their boots come in contact with anything.
Luckily that wasn't the queen's guards in London, that bike would be scrap metal by now

I an the original poster and recorded the clip spontaneously. I had no connection with the cyclists and had no idea what I was about to capture on video.
As a tourist, not saying that it wouldn't happen to me, but I certainly wouldn't laugh. Perhaps apologize?? 😕

Love how all the people in the comments that have never even been near military ask "why not just move the bikes" or "just go around" hen they have to realize literally every single step, turn, command, everything has to be close to if not actually perfect. It was actually a bit funny. The guard yelled "remove your bike!" Thats not something you would expect to be yelled with a military voice by a soldier so it was funny, but only if you speak danish i guess

But neither do I agree with anyone, specatator, tourist, or citizen, displaying a cavalier attitude towards interfering with the responsibilities and duties of those who serve their countries. The funny thing is the gueens guards for the UK whilst training is taught to ignor furniture so if something like that did happen they'd have already been trained to circumvent it mainly by rolling over it but still.
